Shallow Thoughts....
Shallow Thoughts....
Six games had attendance under 15,000 fans yesterday...
Twice as many folks went to see the Cavaliers over the Indians....
Derek Jeter has less range this year than last.
I didn't think that was possible....
Starlin Castro looks like a superstar....
Elvis Andrus has already saved four runs for Ranger starters...
Chin-Soo Choo has eight strike outs in 16 at bats....
Daric Barton has three hits...And three errors...
Same for Mike Aviles.....
Charlie Sheen, meet Milton Bradley
Milton, Charlie....
The Dodgers have one home run this year....
The Dodgers have one stolen base this year...
Matt Kemp has one home run and one stolen base this year...
The Cubs are the only team without a stolen base....
The Royals have won all their games on their last at bat....
The Royals have 12 stolen bases this year...
No other team has more than seven...
Manny Ramirez is one for 16....
He didn't have a chance last night, he has 10 strike outs in 18 at bats vs. Jared Weaver...
Newly acquired Carl Crawford has two total bases...
Newly acquired Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon have two total bases as well, one each.....
Albert Pujols leads the league in.....grounding into double plays...
The press likes easy to follow stats like Nellie Cruz opening the season with a homer in each game....
Fantasy'ers would rather have Mark Teixeira hitting three run bombs....
Marco Scutaro is 0-11 without a run, rbi, bb, or even a strike out...
The Cincinnati Reds are hitting .338....
The Tampa Rays are hitting .138
Neil Walker has made four outs by balls in play....
In 21 at bats, he has seven hits and 10 strike outs.....
The Orioles have not been behind this year....
The Rays have not been ahead this year...
Micro-managers-
Besides asking a player if a baby will be due during baseball season, ask him if his appendix has been removed......
I don't know what is worse, listening to White Sox broadcasters when the team is going well, or Rays broadcasters when they're not....
I miss Ron Santo.....

I've rarely seen as few people at a professional ball game as I saw at the Marlins game yesterday. I think the XFL had bigger crowds.

I haven't heard the Rays broadcasters. What do they do?
Chance favors the prepared mind.

Brian, to answer your question, Rays broadcasters are under the mistaken impression that every team, every umpire, even every circumstance, have all conspired to keep the Rays from winning.
It is never the fault of the 25 players on the field or in the dugout.
Teams are throwing their best pitchers against them, umpires have a smaller strike zone for them, clods of dirt await and spring out to make bad hops for their infielders, the sun only shines in Rays fielders eyes...Sorta like Rodney Dangerfield without the humor...
Fun to listen to for awhile in a passing a car crash type of way, but tiresome after many innings.
By the way, they are still under the mistaken belief that the Rays are still on the Yankees/Red Sox talent level.
Now, THAT, is funny.

Seen a bunch of Games on mlb and it seems a lot of stadiums are more empty than usual. Attendance figures dont mean anyhting. Even the first 5 yankee games I could not believe the Empty seats... I guess gas and economy are starting to hit attendance hard....

The weather SUCKS in much of the country yet and still Bud started the season 4 days earlier than ever before. It's still winter around here and Opening Day on a Thursday just didn't have the same feel as opening on a Monday the same day as the NCAA Final. I know Bud likes the playoffs opening on a weekend, but it's now at the expense of fewer people in the stands during the first cold week of the season.

Dan, this one probably doesn't belong among your game shallow thoughts, but I know you'd like this nonetheless:
Barry Bonds has 13 lawyers representing him in his current trial about lying to a grand jury and they didn't call a single witness in his defense. Truly an amazing ratio. What the hell is he paying them millions of dollars for?

Holy Cow!
That's like buying 13 bags of Doritos and then declaring a chicken-only diet!
How many folks in America can say they have more lawyers than jurors?

Good stuff Dough! I also miss Ron Santo... I love listening to the Cubs games and its just not the same. A die-hard fan needs somebody on the radio living and dying with them and a few of the Cubs win's this year would have been a lot of fun to get a Santo "ALL RIGHT" to!!!
My response to people trying to change my baseball loyalties.
“Being a Cubs fan is the same as having a life insurance policy… It makes no sense to cancel it early!”
Cubs Fan Since 1987
