NFBC and Free Agency

I've never played FB in any form prior to this year. With FF not a definite and fanball not being part of this site anymore I signed up for an online ME on the 26th but was placed in a live draft via phone on the 19th. I wasn't comfortable w/ this having never played FB and explained it to NFBC. I was told that I'm helping them out and it would be a fun experience. Well it was a terrible experience and I felt bad for the other players in my league for the online cheat sheet that I choose was out the window in the 7th round. I never took a break during the draft trying to keep up w/ the players picked via the draft board which resulted in me picking numerous players that were already picked. My apologies to the other players in the draft.I then noticed that I was charged a $50 event fee even though I drafted from home. I was told that he would drink my $50 worth of beer in Vegas. Then I saw that there were 3 all online drafts on the 26th. Anybody in these 3 drafts feel free to PM me and let me know if you were charged an event fee. So last week I placed my free agent bids and was surprised that there wasn't full discloser of all bids. This week I saved my bids to reference against the results. Like I said I've never played FB but the FA results don't seem right. I bid $28 on Boggs and was charged $58 w/ the wrong player being dropped. I was then awarded a player at the right price but w/ the wrong player being dropped. Am I missing something or is this how NFBC operates. Here's a copy of the bids.

Guinness Stingers Waiver Release Mike Minor P 4/10/2011 8:23 PM ET

Guinness Stingers Waiver Release Ramon Hernandez C 4/10/2011 8:23 PM ET

I should have been awarded Boggs at $28 for Minor then Bastardo at $27 for Vargas.

Normally I would have contacted customer service about the free agency but after being placed in a league I didn't sign up for I choose full transparency for all other newcomers.

You put in your claims all bass-ackwards.

You want to put claims in groups with the same drop, so you get one player per drop.

Your correct claim lists should've been this:

4. Mitchell Boggs $28 drop Mike Minor

4a. Antonio Bastardo $27 drop Mike Minor

5. Antonio Bastardo $27 drop Jason Vargas

That's all you needed, all that other stuff is meaningless and just a chance to make a mistake.

Before I say the system messed up, I'd like to see your claims 1-2-3, because the way you entered claims 4-5, I'd have to say it's probably user error, not a system error right now.

Was in one of those 26th online leagues and was charged $50 event fee. That was stated up front that whichever league whether it be live at one of the cities or online or by phone or however else you feel like drafting there was the $50 event fee.

Here is the thread regarding Events Fees being for Online and Live events, and the reason behind them:

You choose to do your first draft ever against the best in the world, make a bunch of assumptions that with asking a couple of simple questions could be answered, and then want to air your grievances in public without even giving the nfbc a chance to respond and explain. Good people run this contest and they are not hard to find with questions or complaints.

Normally I would have contacted customer service about the free agency but after being placed in a league I didn't sign up for I choose full transparency for all other newcomers. Unless I'm looking at your example incorrectly, claiming the same player while dropping different players under multiple bids suggests you are still learning the FAAB process and may have made a user error in the process. Assuming your first bid is processed, win or lose the following drops are redundant and unnecessary.

As for being placed in a phone league, the NFBC is a first come, first serve basis. If you want to draft live, it is up to you to be among the first signups in that location before the final week when leagues are merged to close things out. This is Greg and Tom getting creative and if they didn't merge you and others that league wouldn't have been used and you wouldn't be playing at all. You can't blame them there. What better alternative do they have for late-season sign ups?

I've been playing here for 7 years and while I do not always agree with decisions that are made, you won't find a more well-organized, professionally executed, or more competitive contest. Chalk the early growing pains up to being your break-in period. Still a lot of season left to prove you belong. NFBC retention is very high for a reason. Odds are you'll be back with the rest of us.
