Back to back head first slides by Hamilton. Take a look - doesn't look like he showed any pain after either.

MLB.com Furcal didn’t show any pain last night after sliding into third base. He was even tugging at his uniform pants after the slide. Two innings later he is talking about possible retirement after breaking his thumb during the slide.

Josh Hamilton hurt - strained shoulder

I love Josh Hamilton and think he is one of the most exiting guys to watch play the game! His story is very easy like and after the home run derby a few years ago at Old Yankee Stadium, I pull for him at every turn!

That all being said, I drafted 5 teams this year and Hamilton wasn't a target in one of them. He has the raw talent to put up ALL TIME numbers, but always seems to be dinged up. Last year he won the MVP after only playing in 133 games and in 2009 he played in just 89 games.

I know the Rangers love the guy, but they don't seem to be in a hurry to lock him up to a long term contract (signed him to a 2 year extension this winter to get to the end of his arbitration) and surely his health is the reason.

Anyways, I hope this latest nick isn't a serious injury, but it is only the 11th game of a 162 game marathon and Hamilton will surely spend his share of time on the DL like usual... :(

From ESPN.com

---------------------------------------------------

Hamilton, who was wearing a sling after the game, came out of Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Tigers after the first inning. Hamilton said third base coach Dave Anderson sent him home when he noticed the pitcher wasn't covering home plate on a pop up by Adrian Beltre in foul territory just in front of the Tigers' dugout. Hamilton was not happy with the decision, calling it "stupid."

"It was just a stupid play," Hamilton said. "I definitely shouldn't have done it."

Hamilton added: "I listened to my third base coach. That's a little too aggressive. The whole time I was watching the play I was listening. [He said], 'Nobody's at home, nobody's at home.' I was like, 'Dude, I don't want to do this. Something's going to happen.' But I listened to my coach. And how do you avoid a tag the best, by going in headfirst and get out of the way and get in there. That's what I did."

--------------------------------------------------

I wonder if the coach yelled at Hamilton to flop into home plate like a beached whale too

Josh Hamilton - OF - Rangers

Josh Hamilton will miss 6-8 weeks with a non-displaced fracture of humerus bone in his right shoulder.

Bad, bad news for one of the game's most talented players. We figured Hamilton would miss time at some point during the season, but this injury could wipe almost two whole months off the calendar. It will be a month before he even swings a bat. Chris Davis will take his place on the active roster while David Murphy will draw most of the starts in left field.

I don't think anyone would drop him given the timeframe, but how effective will he be coming back midseason from a shoulder injury?

any other major leaguers break their humerus bone? if so, how did they do when they came back?

What's up with Texas. They have 3 of the best fantasy players in baseball "when healthy" in Hamilton, Kinsler, and Cruz. They are all so brittle though. Tough loss for Texas and fantasy owners

[/QUOTE]This injury does not usually happen to position players.

Those of you who remember Dave Dravecky and the awful site of his arm flailing after the delivery of his pitch, witnessed the humerus bone being snapped. Most of the time, in baseball, a throw is the cause.

It should be interesting to see Hamilton come back from this.

All these high priced players going down with injury. Never seen anything lile it the past few years. The more $$$ they make the more likley they are to get hurt. Me says lazy off-seaons and out of shape athletes that cannot stand the rigors of 162 games. Players in yesteryear, who had to work for the money, becuase they did'nt earn much, always found a way to play and stay healthy and play with injury. I never heard of Oblique injuires until a few years ago. I suppose players from yesteryear were immune from them.

Greg, well it looks like my insurance on Josh Hamilton for my auction league will pay off. When can I expect to receive payment and how do I submit my form?

I wonder if the coach yelled at Hamilton to flop into home plate like a beached whale too  How did that old expression go? Something about excuses are like a-holes...This guy is a walking disaster waiting to happen. I drafted him second overall in just one of ten leagues I'm in this year, and I recall vividly when I was clicking on the draft button saying to myself, "I know this guy is going to f@#$ me somehow my doing something to sabotage himself this year. And sure enough  Won't make that mistake again. He may win another MVP someday, but I'm not rolling the dice on him to take that chance unless he falls to me like a surprise trust fund inheritance :

Well, my boy Josh Hamilton is back. A little more than one month removed from April 12th when he went on the DL.

Now Greg, I know I was half joking with my Auction insurance question but this is a serious question I hope you can answer. Lets say he goes on the DL again for another 30 days. Then does the insurance pay off since he was injured for a total of more than 60 days or does he have to be on the DL for a consecutive 60 days or more to be paid out?

Thanks!

Josh Hamilton is exactly the type of player I try to avoid. Exciting player? You bet. Can you depend on him for consistent production, year after year? Absolutely not.

There are different types of risk. Hamilton is an injury risk. Will he be worth a 13-15 pick? He stll could be. He was worth it 2 out of the last 3.

At the beginning of the season, Bautista presented more of a talent risk, then an injury risk. He was clearly worth that risk.
