Arlington Park Near Chicago Closing?

Post by ScottieBaseball » Thu May 19, 2011 3:20 pm

For those drafters in Chicago, I just saw a story on FOX News Chicago saying that if Arlington Park does not get slot machines they may have to close, which would not be good because that is obviously where we have been having our drafts in Chicago and also it employs 4,000 people.

Greg, do you know anything more about this? I will post this on the football boards so they are not left out of the loop...

Arlington Park Near Chicago Closing?

They have been threatening to close for about ten years. It seemed things would get better with the Churchill Downs people taking it over but so far no luck. It would be unfortunate because the track is beautiful. If you've never been there for a day of racing you should soon!!!

I take my family there once a year. Sundays are family day. They allow you to bring in your own food and they have a large picnic area. They also have a different event set up for the kids each week.

We go early, do the kids thing, visit the paddock & winners circle, watch the races from the rail, eat lunch, and I even get a few losing bets in.

As for the Live Drafts, they are held at the OTB outside the actual track. I didn’t see the story on TV, but I doubt that the OTB would close even if the track did. But I could be wrong.
