Would NFBC '60s Work For Baseball?

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Aug 22, 2011 5:46 am

One of the things I started this year in our football event (the NFFC) was something called the NFFC '60s. It was my way of creating a "bowling night" for folks who wanted to draft early in the season at a low price and in the same alley with other like-minded players. The cost was only $60 per team and they were 30-round Draft Champions leagues so that folks can bowl and then go home with their score, so to speak. The computer took care of the rest because in our football DCs the computer picks your optimal scoring lineup each week.

What happened was more than a dozen NFFC '60s drafted on either every Friday or Sunday night from July through August. $60 could win you $480 and again you didn't have to do anything after you drafted. The NFL lockout prevented us from starting these sooner and honestly next year I could see these being a lot of fun much, much earlier in the off-season. We did create an NFFC Slow Draft Championship for the first time and that went over well too, although the lockout also had its effect with that contest.

Looking ahead to the next NFBC off-season, I'd like to get our drafting season going in November after the World Series. We will again offer the Slow Draft Championship at $150 per team and get that going when the demand warrants it. I'm also interested in maybe offering these starter NFBC '60s leagues if people want them.

My one concern is that for our Draft Champions format we draft 50 rounds. Even at only 60 seconds per pick, these would still take several hours. And of course you'd still have some work to do during the season. But they would be a great way to gather in a draft room for several hours and talk baseball, while competing for a nice prize with like-minded baseball nuts.

Just a thought and I'm interested in any feedback folks could provide. Maybe we make these slightly different with 40 rounds instead of 50 since they are just private leagues. But you tell me and we'll plan accordingly. Same with the Slow Draft Championship. We're going to be well ahead of the curve this year with our baseball offerings and I'd love to discuss all of this well in advance if possible to get our technology up to speed. Thanks all.
