Just a few things to look at for the future....

After starting the 2011 season early in order to not have a November finish, there are rumors that the 2012 season won't begin till April 4.

The season will end on October 4.

Unfortunately, still midweek starts and ends.

The Playoffs will be scheduled closer together in order to be done by Selig's timeline of November 1.

The Opening game will be held at the Marlins new park.

They'll be called the Miami Marlins.

The Marlins, Blue Jays, and Mets will have new uniforms.

The Marlins signalling new beginnings for their ball park.

The Jays going to a more 'Canadian' motif.

The Mets getting in touch with their roots and 1962 and having a throwback look.

The Mets and Astros will be celebrating 50 year anniversaries in baseball.

It will also be the 50th anniversary for Dodger Stadium and the 100th for Fenway Park.

At the end of the season in November 2012, there will be a qualifying tournament in Taiwan for entrants into the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

The U.S. and 11 other countries are automatically qualified.

This could all be subjected to change while the union and owners hammer out a new contract...

WOW, this is very interesting news. I almost think the NFBC will have to push back its draft dates with this latest news. It's almost impossible to host drafts the first weekend of March Madness if Opening Day is a full 2 1/2 weeks later. In our two-weekend scenario, I think we'll almost have to go March 23-25 and March 30-April 1.

We definitely need confirmation on the 2012 MLB season, but right now it definitely looks like Major League Baseball is going to open a week later next year and on a Wednesday again. Here's the latest news:

The 2012 Major League Baseball season will be the 112th common season in Major League Baseball involving both the American and National Leagues. With the current labor contract expiring after the 2011 season, an expanded playoff format adding two clubs is a possibility for 2012.[1] It has been confirmed that the regular season will start April 4 in Miami, Florida, with the opening of the New Miami Ballpark, as the newly renamed Miami Marlins will be hosting the St. Louis Cardinals, and end on October 4.[2] The entire master schedule is to be released in September 2011.

The Major League Baseball All-Star Game's 83rd edition will be held on July 10th at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. The winning league will earn home field advantage for the 2012 World Series, beginning on October 24 and scheduled to end no later than November 1. The Civil Rights Game will be held at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia.

DOUGH - You got me pumped for 2012 already and there is still 2 + weeks left of 2011!

My year was pretty average overall, but one thing I did get right was drafting Ellsbury in the 4th Round in 3 of my 5 leagues! Other than that, I sucked! Learned my lesson the hard way on grabbing catchers to soon, AGAIN this year!

Hope you are well and look forward to reading the boards a lot more in the near future!

[/QUOTE]I have to admit, I'm sad that I won't be in Las Vegas for Opening Weekend of March Madness. I've hosted a show there every year at that time since 2001. It's one of the best times of the year in Las Vegas.

However, I think Major League Baseball is making a good decision to push back the start of the season a week. The weather SUCKED in late March this year and that first week felt more like winter ball than spring. Starting on April 4th gives us more time to sell the Online Championships and gets us all into the baseball spirit. I'm still not sold on the Wednesday Opening Day thing, but I understand why Bud is doing it. He wants the playoffs to start on the weekend for TV ratings. I get it.

We are currently looking for space now in Las Vegas, Chicago and New York for March 30-April 1 and in Las Vegas and the East Coast for March 23-25. We'll go over all of our plans this month and hopefully announce everything in October. We're excited about the next season and we believe NFBC IX will be our best ever!! The live events space has had a shakeout this past year and unfortunately some of our top customers were affected by it. But the NFBC continues to be there, running first class events and paying their winners on time. That will be the case again in 2012. See ya on Draft Day.

Well, it's official: The MLB season starts on April 4th with one game. That's a Wednesday, followed by games on Thursday and Friday. That means the NFBC season will hold drafts on March 23-25 and then again on March 30-April 1. NFBC Online Championship Leagues will begin in February and continue until April 4th. More details to come.

Here's the Associated Press story on the 2012 MLB season:

MLB announces 2012 schedule

Associated Press

NEW YORK -- The renamed Miami Marlins will start next season in their new ballpark a day ahead of the rest of the major leagues, playing the St. Louis Cardinals on April 4.

Major League Baseball announced next season's schedule Wednesday, and the season will open in midweek for the second straight year.

The following day's schedule has Philadelphia at Pittsburgh, Toronto at Cleveland, Boston at Detroit, Atlanta at the New York Mets, Washington at the Chicago Cubs, and Los Angeles at San Diego.

Openers slated for April 6 have the New York Yankees at Tampa Bay, Minnesota at Baltimore, Seattle at Oakland, the Chicago White Sox at Texas, Kansas City at the Los Angeles Angels, Colorado at Houston, St. Louis at Milwaukee, San Francisco at Arizona and Miami at Cincinnati.

Known as the Florida Marlins since starting play in 1993, the team will be renamed Nov. 11 as it prepares to move into a $515 million, retractable-roof ballpark on the site that used to be the Orange Bowl. The game against the Cardinals is likely to be televised by ESPN.

Before the formal opener, the Marlins host the Yankees in exhibitions April 1 and 2.

The 16th season of interleague play starts May 18 with matchups including the White Sox at the Cubs, Oakland at San Francisco, Baltimore at Washington, Houston at Texas, the Angels at San Diego, and Cincinnati at the Yankees in a rematch of the 1976 World Series.

The Yankees host the Mets June 8-10, and the teams play at Citi Field June 22-24.

The focus of Jackie Robinson Day on April 15 will be on Dodger Stadium, where Los Angeles hosts San Diego. The amateur draft will be June 4.

Oakland and the Rays will have a rare scheduled Sunday off Aug. 26, a day before the start of the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla.

Next season is scheduled to end Wednesday, Oct. 3. It likely will be followed by a new round of wild-card playoffs, with the postseason probably expanding from eight teams to 10.

In a previous thread you indicated that the rules for 2012 are in place. Can you share any changes that are forthcoming?

Thanks.

Here's a new monkey wrench for 2012: According to SportsBusiness Journal, MLB is returning to Japan to open 2012 season. "Japan games for start of '12 MLB season now official. Oakland to play Seattle in Tokyo March 28-29 of next year."

I have my thoughts on what the NFBC will do even with this news, but give me a bit to finalize. Thanks.

Major League Baseball announced today the Seattle Mariners will open the 2012 season in Tokyo, Japan, March 28-29 against the Oakland Athletics.

The two-game Japan Opening Series 2012 at the Tokyo Dome will be “road” games for the Mariners. To account for the two regular season games that will be played in Tokyo, the previously announced games at Oakland on Sunday, April 8, and Thursday, July 5, will be off days. The Mariners 81-game home schedule is not affected by the games in Japan.

“The Seattle Mariners are proud to represent Major League Baseball and open the 2012 regular season in Japan against the Oakland Athletics,” said Mariners President Chuck Armstrong. “More Mariners games have been televised in Japan over the past 10 years than any other MLB team, so the fans there will be familiar with us. This will be a memorable experience for our players and our organization.”

The nine-day trip in the middle of Spring Training begins March 22, when the Mariners leave Phoenix for Tokyo. While in Japan, the Mariners will play two exhibition games (details TBD) in addition to the pair of regular season games against the Athletics.
