I know most of you know this data already since I sent out an Excel document to all NFBC owners, but I found it interesting to look over that data a little more closely for the first round. Here's the facts on the first 11 consensus picks:
1. Alex Rodriguez, 3B, Yankees: He was selected first in 12 of the 20 leagues. Not surprisingly, he was picked first in 6 of the 7 New York leagues. He was picked first in three of the nine Las Vegas leagues and three of the four Chicago leagues. He wasn’t picked lower than fourth in any draft.
2. Carlos Beltran, OF, Mets: He was picked first in five of the 20 leagues and wasn’t picked lower than fourth in any league. He was the only other first overall pick in New York other than A-Rod. He also was picked first in three of the nine Las Vegas leagues.
3. Albert Pujols, 1B, Cardinals: He was the first overall pick in three Las Vegas leagues and wasn’t picked lower than fourth in any league.
4. Vladimir Guerrero, OF, Angels: He went as high as second and never lower than sixth. This was a very strong consensus Top 4 in most NFBC drafts.
5. Miguel Tejada, SS, Orioles: He went as high as third and no lower than eighth.
6. Bobby Abreu, OF, Phillies: He went as high as fifth and no lower than 11th.
7. Johan Santana, SP, Twins: He went as high as second and no lower than 11th in our 20 leagues.
8. Todd Helton, 1B, Rockies: He went as high as sixth and no lower than 13th.
9. Alfonso Soriano, 2B, Rangers: He went as high as fifth and no lower than 13th.
10. Carl Crawford, OF, Devil Rays: He went as high as fifth and no lower than 13th.
11. Randy Johnson, SP, Yankees: He went as high as fourth and as low as 15th. In the NFBC Ultimate League, he went first.
It's not earth-shattering info, but I found it interesting nonetheless.

Randy Johnson was my highest rated player so it wasn't surprising to see him go first in the Ultimate - someone understands contribution to overall team stats.
But with that said, I decided to go with ARod with my first pick. In that spot, I just assumed I could still get a decent pitching staff and wanted contributions to all 5 offensive catgeories. The decision looked good (Halladay, Bonderman, Weaver, Thomson, Escobar, and Benson) until about 2 days ago (ie latter 2).

I think age had a big factor in Johnson sliding, that and his bum knees
