Main Event Rankings 2004-2011

Post by KJ Duke » Sat Oct 01, 2011 8:07 am

Below are the unofficial NFBC lifetime rankings.

Methodology:

(1) Any team scoring at least 1% (rounded to the nearest percent) above the mean overall score will accumulate points for that season equal to their percentage above the mean. For example, if the average score was 1,000 points and you scored 1,200, you will accumulate 20 points for that team. Teams below the mean score take a zero. Finishing below average in any given season is worth the same as not playing. Bad seasons are not penalized with negative points because they are learning experiences, and should not be of less value than not playing at all.

(2) Points are slightly weighted to give higher value to more recent years. The base year, 2004, is awarded 100% of that year's point total and for each successive season points are increased by 10%. For example, 2005 would be worth 110%, 2006 121%, etc. Recent results are given slightly more weight than past results because as the game changes and players become more experienced rankings should reflect both accomplishment and improvement.

(3) Ranking is based on total accumulated points over the history of the NFBC main event.

For players that have had consistent co-mangers, I've ranked those players together as one. For those with different co-managers over various teams or seasons I've ranked those players individually.

I wonder what kind of a boost I get if you count bad seasons against people.

Wow! Very well done on this, KJ. My thoughts after perusing the list were as follows: [1] Being ranked 177 after the relatively short time that I have been competing in the Main Event considering the talent on this list isn't too bad. And [2] I REALLY have a lot of friggin' work to do to get better, starting like now! Thanks for posting this, and I hope the NFBC can adopt it somehow for us fanatics that this sort of stuff matters to so that we can refer to it from year to year. It will be especially fun for me to watch as I close in on Jupinka until I overtake him in a couple of years :D :D :D

Good stuff KJ, thanks for taking the time. Enjoyed the initial explanations that showed exactly how the rankings were broken down.

Baseball Furies........Another solid job pal, before you can grab Jupinka you need to work on the balance sheet between your overall numbers between hitting and pitching. You certainly know how to mash, going to scare us all when you start getting those arms figured out. Great job.

Thanks KJ for doing this. This is a great analysis of our 8 years of events. I hope to dive into more historical data this week along with updated records and a closer look at our Main Events and our Hall of Fame possibilities. We may have jumped the gun by naming Lindy, but there are other notable persons on the ballot for either this year or in the years to come. I want to keep that historical data going.

And we will get our Lifetime Standings up and Archived Teams active soon. All of that data is very, very important to our event as we enter our NINTH NFBC SEASON. Wow, that's amazing. Thanks for the historical look here and get ready for some fun data this week.

First it's off to Miller Park. GO BREWERS!!! :D

I don't think so Greg, in addition to being in the top 10 on this list he's done two things (winning overall twice, and winning two majors in one season) that no one else has done, all in the last 3 seasons. I think he was the right choice.

I don't think Greg was questioning Lindy's bona fides here KJ, just the timing of the announcement. His accomplishments as you noted make him a slam dunk.

Was able to get the pitching right in the Slow Draft 1000 for the title at 116 points, and I think a big showing in 2012 in the Main Events will be in order. We shall see. This game can be very humbling. Just ended up in the wrong A/C league this past year...the one that happened to have you in it  or would have that title as well ;) . You get my message about The inaugural New York Metropolitan Live Event League that I'm starting up this year? Let me know if you would like the info. Would love to have you be a part of it
