Damn, I hope the Tigers can pull it off.

I'm thinking all 3 home teams win. I'd give Arizona the best shot of the three, I guess,

Gimme all three road teams. Carp is going to bounce back strong after his first outing in the series. Kennedy is a stud and will stymie Braun/Fielder, and there is no way that Fister loses twice to NYY and Nova beats the mighty tigers twice. Road teams rejoice!

I want Detroit (that town needs something to cheer about to go with the Lions start and I am damn tired of the Yankees), Milwaukee (Arizona-smerizona), and St. Louis (I hate LaRussa, but ANYONE other than the Phillies and their Fab Four starters)!
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

You know, teams play all year long for the chance to earn home field advantage and that edge should work out for the home teams. But it only works out if everyone in the stadium is loose and behind the home team.
Last night at Yankee Stadium, there seemed to be an edge and a tension right from the start. The usual vocal Yankees' crowd seemed to be praying instead of clapping with every at-bat after they fell behind 2-0 in the first inning. Every picture in the late innings showed a fan with their fingers crossed, the same look Mets' fans had against the Cardinals a few years ago. There was quiet even in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and in the ninth inning when it was still 3-2. What kind of edge is that when the fans make the players feel tense?
I hope it's a bit more rowdy today in Milwaukee at Miller Park. No way will that crowd sit on their hands and pray for a miracle. The best way to take advantage of home field is to rattle the opposing pitcher, the opposing hitter and provide a lift for the local players. I trust the atmosphere will be MUCH different at Miller Park and in Philly.
I agree, the Diamondbacks have a great chance to win today if they can stymie Fielder and Braun. They also have to get to Gallardo early. If he gets through the first few innings, he could go 7 strong innings and hand it off to a solid bullpen. But offensively, this team is centered completely around Braun and Fielder and if I was Ian Kennedy I wouldn't give either player a pitch to hit.
This should be a fun, fun day. It's going to be around 80 degrees in Wisconsin today and Brewer fans haven't had a game this big since Game 5 of the 1982 World Series. We won that, but then lost the next two games in St. Louis. It should be a fun day for baseball fans everywhere with two series clinchers on the horizon. What a great season. Enjoy all.

I have to believe MLB and Fox is dreading a possible Texas-Detroit/Milwaukee/St. Louis AL and NLCS. I mean, three Midwest teams and Dallas?? What kind of ratings would those teams bring?
But I agree with you, for those cities and states it would be ELECTRIC. You know Detroit fans are feeling good right now and the Cardinals and Brewers are both big stories. But to have no big city media markets (outside of Dallas) and no East Coast or West Coast teams would hurt ratings. But right now, who cares about the ratings? May the best teams win. Let's see how it plays out tonight.

Damn, I hope the Tigers can pull it off. Well Joe, are you still hanging in there? Are you keeping the faith that your Tigers can still pull out this series? It's going to be rough, but I'm glad we have a Game 6 in the ALCS. I'm not sure Verlander will recover from that 133-pitch effort, but it was historic and amazing. Great Game 5.
Just as surprising was Randy Wolf's performance last night for the Brewers. I certainly didn't see that one coming. That sets up a great Game 5 tonight with Greinke taking on Garcia, two pitchers who were BOMBED in Game 1. It should be a good one. If the Brewers can take a 3-2 series lead to Milwaukee, they will be tough to beat just like the Rangers are now. If the Cardinals win tonight, then the Brewers will be down 3-2 heading home for two games, the same scenario the Cardinals were in during the 1982 World Series when they won Games 6 and 7 to defeat the Brewers for the title. Pretty crazy.
I'm digging both series. I know TV ratings probably aren't great for these Midwest teams, but the baseball has been solid. It should be a fun, fun weekend of baseball followed by an interesting World Series whatever the matchup is. All four teams are seeing tired pitching staffs, so it's a battle of attrition now. May the best team win.
Oh, and this is EXACTLY why Bud Selig changed the start of Opening Day to a Wednesday. He wanted Game 6's and 7's on a weekend, when TV ratings are highest. He got his wish in the ALCS and NLCS and it could be that way again in the World Series. We'll see.

Playoff baseball is the best, especially when your team is involved. Until yesterday the breaks had gone entirely Texas's way, hopefully the tide has turned. Jim Leylands tactics and bullpen use have been questionable at best. Two games in Texas is not insurmountable. Fister has the ability to shut them down if we can just get it to game 7. The 133 from Verlander is of no concern, he's done it all year, he's a freak. Every start this year was over 100 pitches and he averaged 115. I say he goes 2 innings if needed in game 7. The day off will help the Tigers.
As for the Brewers they needed that win last night. To get 7 innings from Wolf was quite a surprise. They were finally able to keep St. Louis off the board in the first inning. I thought that was critical, getting the jump in these games is very very big. Grienke Vs. Garcia should be an awesome game 5, either pitcher is capable of shutting the other team down.
It's been a classic post season so far with all of the games so close with many extra inning games thrown in. Keep the faith Tiger fans "It isn't over yet" !!!!

This is real baseball. The drama is all on the field, not off.
The press really seems to be missing the Boston, New York, and Phiadelphia east coast vibe.
Too bad.
The Series has gone blue collar this year. A baseball 'Wall Street protest' in a way.
Baseball will never get the ratings that Selig dreams of. It is not a television sport like football. We live in an attention deficit disordered society.
Watching baseball to most kids is akin to watching 'As the World turns' for us.
Whoever named baseball a 'pastime', nailed it. We as kids, were glued to the World Series.
We would hide radios at school and couldn't wait for the games on the weekend.
Then, there were three or four tv channels. No video games. No computers. No instant gratification.
Now, being a kid is a full time job. There is no time to watch a three hour game on television.
It is, in a sense, adult tv.
Now, I know a few of you have kids and watch ballgames with them, but I am talking about kids in general.
Ratings, schmatings.
For us watching, the baseball is good. I don't miss the 'Up close and personal' stories that go along with east coast baseball. Let MidAmerica in on the fun of getting the press for once. It's a nice change of pace.
Sorry, I swear this was only going to be a couple of sentences.
What is the opposite of instant gratification?

I can't believe I have to root for Texas....AGAIN!
I am a vegetarian and Tony La Russa makes me want to eat a thick bloody steak! Thanks Brew Crew
Too bad Oakland wasn't the other team...would love to see Billy Beane's boys give the Cards a Moneyball a$$kicking
As far as ratings, I agree w/ Dan "ratings, schmatings". However I disagree w/ this statement: "I don't miss the 'Up close and personal' stories that go along with east coast baseball". Really? You think that crap only applys to east coast teams? I guarantee you had Detroit won, we'd be inundated w/ stories about what amazing friends Genius Tony & Leyland are, how wonderful it is that poor, economically challenged Detroit needs this, Berkman's comeback yr, perhaps they'd show footage of Pujols at that Glenn Beck rally, etc, etc, etc
That $hit ain't east coast exclusive friendo, that may be YOUR midwest bias comin' thru

The press can dig up something anywhere. It's what they're paid to do.But, you have to admit that the stories are tenfold from the East Coast. Heck, from the Yanks and Sox alone. I won't miss them.
Here is the single most crazy thing I've heard about the Cardinals making the World Series.
"This will give Albert Pujols the stage to make more money for his next contract."
Pujols can go 0-24 or 12-24 with five homers.
That contract will be the same no matter how well or badly he hits.

That contract will be the same no matter how well or badly he hits. The press digging up something somewhere was my point, doesn't matter which team it is, they're trying to sell some BS angle to get the non-fans interested. You & I (and real baseball fans) just wanna watch baseball being played at the highest level by the best in the game (or at least in the case of the Cards, the luckiest....am I still bitter
)
Agree w/ you on Phat Albert too....what a ridiculous statement. Speaking of Pujols, I hope he DOESN'T sign w/ the Cubs. Even as a Phillie fan I feel bad for them and just have a feeling he won't perform anywhere close to the gigantic contract he's bound to sign. Plus, how old is he really? 31??? I'm callin' BS. If Leo Nunez ain't really Leo Nunez, my hunch tells me "El Hombre" is somewhere b/w 34 - 37 yrs old.
I have no proof. I just don't believe that guy is the age he claims. He certainly wouldn't be the 1st ballplayer from the D.R. to lie about his age (can't say I blame them either). So if he is, say 34, (not 31) do the Cubs want to sign him to an ARod type deal?
I say this as a guy who'd rather the Phillies had waited and paid Pujols the kind of money they threw at Howard (even before his Achilles injury)
