1941 to 2011 ALL TIME DRAFT --- THE DRAFT PICKS ARE HERE!

Post by Glenneration X » Sat Nov 19, 2011 4:32 pm

When I took Maddux with my last pick, there was a group of starters from which I was hoping one would make it back to me as my game plan was to triple up on that side of the ledger by adding one to McLain & Maddux. Of course none made it back to me. I thought about grabbing a starter from my next tier but with two other drafters having already tripled up, I no longer thought I could get an edge there.

After reviewing the offensive side, I had settled on a player that I felt could give me a nice base to start building my offensive stats. He provides a nice average, 50 home runs, over 130 counting stats in both RBI's and R's, and even threw in double digit steals. I was all set to pick him. Then Ryan did what he always does and grabbed my player right before me. Mantle was his, not mine.

Back to the drawing board. I decided to head back to the pitching side, but in a different direction. My pick may have put together the greatest relief pitching season in history, if not the best likely the 2nd to Gagne. The ratios are absolutely sick. Plus he gave up one of the most historic homers in the history of the game. Does it get any better than that?

The year.....1990. The pitcher.....

Dennis Eckersley 1990

I said to myself when I made the pick I hope that Glenn does not want him. I had a good feeling looking at you having two great starters that you would have loved to get a guy like Mantle but I hoped I was wrong. Sorry man, I really do hate when we take each others players.

Although I did have you taking Eck if Mantle was not your guy as I think he fits your team perfectly and is a great pick.

I am sure next time around or in a round soon you will steal my player as well and I will do the same again later and so on. It is just crazy how many times it has happened.

I remember drafting this guy as a rookie back in the day when USA Today was THE source for stats. How times have changed. i am not taking his rookie year but instead year....

John- it looks like you're filling your roster top-down. You know, you don't have to go in order.

Bagwell's 2000 was awesome, but for some reason he stopped running. 9 sb's vs. the 30 from 1999. I guess you're getting your getting your "bags" elsewhere. (ooooh, bad pun!)

Bagwell becomes the 3rd guy picked for a different year than the initial draft, joining ARod and Ted Williams. I expect there will be a few more before all is said and done.

Maybe Bagwell is all the bags I need . I think the inventory change between the first one and this one will force a few of these "year" decisions. I took the 2000 year for the run advantage.

[/QUOTE]Run advantage indeed. Most runs scored in a season over the last 75 years (since Lou Gehrig in 1936).

Greg said last week when the new boards went live we would lose some recent posts. However, the old board is still active so all of the information can be accessed there and transferred to the new boards here.
