Deadheadz - in the likely event that u get your ass handed to you this year in leagues u try your "gimmick" strategies, will u admit you were wrong and bypass silly strategies next year?

Great to have fans!

But so long as NY State allows "carry permits" and knowing that's Alan Greenberg's territory, I'll have to pass.

Not exactly.

I will "refine" those strategies which failed the least.

Dead, are you in your 60's? Did you attend one to many Dead concerts? I have no idea, but the team name, bizarre strategy leads me to believe you may have had one too many tokes on the old bong.
No disrespect intended, just curious.

Deadheadz don't listen to these so called nfbc vets - do what you want to do strategy wise and get in the NYC MAIN! All these guys rock crazy -ROI's.

Dead don't even think about NYC, I think Vegas is a better fit for you. Guys out in Vegas are pushovers compared to them cranky New Yorkers.

Oddly enough, I've never actually attended a Dead concert but they played at my university in '90. I'm 47 but act like I'm 17.

In my case, "Deadhead" refers to transporting a railroad crew back home from where they took the train. Depending on the time of day or month of the year, rail traffic tends to go one direction so the crews are shuttled home where they go off pay. Otherwise the rail company (much different in Canada than the US) has to pay the crew for every hour after their mandatory rest once they get off the train and are not at their home terminal. I've seen the term deadhead used also in the airline industry in a similar way.

I can't say I'm a big fan of the music of the Dead but it's mainly because I haven't listened to anything they put out before '83. I think the Stealie logo is cool and distinctive so I've adopted it at times.

I am a VERY BIG fan of Cherry Garica. But the best Ben & Jerry's variety IMHO is Vermonty Python. Sadly, no longer available in western Canada.

I am curious about your strategy for this draft.

You stocked up on 1st baseman, yet neglected your catcher position. It looks like you have Stephen Vogt and Adrian Nieto as your starters.

If you could take the time to explain, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Krys
I'm going to spend the season watching for Sal Perez to go on the DL. The WhiteSox are about as weak at catcher as I am but since Nieto is a Rule 5 guy they've got to keep him on the roster so he may get the majority of the PT if the others there don't impress.
While Gattis is a catcher in Fantasy, I really don't think he or Doumit will actually play the position all that often unless BJ Upton returns to his former glory. I'll be starting my season with Nieto and Laird at catcher which won't help me much at all but their numbers will not hurt me the way someone like a Jesus Montero or Ryan Lavarnway might. Vogt and Hayes may not play at all this season but if they do, I will slot them in for a minor boost.

Hope that answers some of your questions but I know it doesn't seem like there's much upside.

Gattis is the clear cut starter in the ATL.

I agree. And he'll stay that way as long as BJ plays well. Upton to the bench probably means Gattis to OF and Doumit/Laird play more.

punting the catcher position, no bueno. you have to get some stats to compete. deadheadz might end up with 1/4 the stats of the avg team in this league.

gattis not going to OF dead. doumit, most likely would in that scenario.

Doumit will not play cather, he would play the OF, should Heyward have to move to Center. Doumit is done catching unless its an emergency becuase of his concussion issues and Laird will never see the starting gig in ATL.

I've never said I thought Laird would be the starting backstop. I said he wouldn't hurt my AVG like a lot of other low end power catchers would.

My team depends a lot more on players like Pujols and Josh Hamilton than what my catchers should have provided.

Deadhead takes situations that have a 1% chance of happening and really thinks the chances are 90% and drafts according to that

the play if you dont feel Gattis will do most of the catching was Bettancourt, he went 47th round, he went right after you took Laird.

Manufactured position scarcity.
Quoted myself above ^^^^^^^

People assume they will have plenty of choices at 1B and CI but if you look at some of the teams in the league, they are one or two injuries from disaster at that position. My opinion, of course.

If you are playing Laird he will kill your avg, and not just your avg. Not for nothing, but if thats going to be your production out of the Catcher posistion, you better hope the rest of your team averages triple crown numbers.

His last 4 years avg per season .243, 168 AB's, 2HR - 16 RBI, 0-SB 0- and its likely these avgs will go down this year. Im guessing he has a chance of getting cut out of spring training, if they keep Bethancourt.

I see a lot of teams that punt or go catching late, but at the end of the day, those 2 spots are almost 15% of the counting Stats in the NFBC

The great thing about stats is how people will always include those which bolster their argument regardless of whether they are comparing apples to apples or to oranges.

I can't argue with your stats. Laird hit .281 last season in 121 AB. If you need to go back more than 3 (which seems to be the timeframe most people use) years to make your argument even more powerful, then perhaps it's a sign that Laird is trending as a better hitter?

As I said, I'm going to be watching for Sal Perez to go on the DL or just have a sucky season to get my "good" catcher some significant at-bats.

If Pujols and J Hamilton repeat their 2013 stats, I'm doomed regardless.

Not sure I have ever seen 2 teams punt catching in the same league before. Interesting. I like Morons team otherwise. Lots of strong teams in this one..what happened to team 1? Seems he was having a decent draft and then fell off a cliff. Looks like a fun group of guys. Good luck!
