Re: Venting misery...
13 and two thirds innings in two starts, 24 K's, combined 11 hits and walks. Zero wins...

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Tssssk....awwwww....It's so thoughtful how the Nationals continue to activate/deactivate/activate/deactivate Anthony Rendon always right before the Friday line-up deadlines.
Now it would be nice if Rendon were so thoughtful to his owners. Try staying in the line-up for longer than 3 weeks. YOU BUM. LET's GOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Venting misery...
How about Greinke having 5 wins this year with a 1.70 era and .93 whip... and he doesn't pitch for a team like the Mets with a helpless offense. Amazing...

Re: Venting misery...
I need to vent.. this may be a longer post because I need to get the irritation out of me... maybe others will get something positive from it .. I enjoy reading the "doctor main event blog" thread for similar reasons. My main event team is pretty solid. It has a legit chance to make noise. it might be easiest to explain this way. The team first in offense in the league and has the following pitching staff.
Greinke
DeGrom
Jose Fernandez
Samardjzia
Jimenez
Heaney
and... yes.. Matz
Also mix and match Morton, Happ, Velasquez and waiting on Paxton to return.
This team has struggled in Pitching even though on paper it was a decent staff and likely to improve when Fernandez came back. The team was one pick from having Cole but Cole got snagged and that resulted in Samardzjia. Though he has had a bad year, I expect a solid second half and tonights performance is a good sign. I was saving faab $ all year specifically to get Matz. I passed on Correa, Buxton and Sano when I had enough to assure myself I would get any of them. I nearly changed my plan when Miggy went down for this team. I instead chose to pass on Sano as a miggy replacement (picked up Cron) and decided to go all in on Matz thinking adding him to this pitching staff could really made a difference in ERA, Wins, Whip, K's. I way over spent expecting another team that had similar money to go in hard for him and he didn't. So I have all but emptied the faab tank in a "play to win" move for Matz.
It has been an odd year in that I almost never seem able to get through a day feeling good about the results. Any day I have a pitcher have a big game I have someone else shit the bed in a later game. So I sit here today, fresh of a DeGrom gem yesterday and a Samardzjia shutout today and the news comes out that Matz is broken down. Given the fact the Mets have shown little interest in winning this year there is no doubt in my mind they will be extra cautious with him. Just a huge downer today even with a 3rd near shutout from Fernandez tonight. Add to that this team lost all 3 drafted closers (Cishek, Nathan, Cecil) and my teams later draft pitching targets in Morrow and Paxton both got hurt after pitching well and losing Miggy and I am officially in misery....
Hope this makes others feel better.

Re: Venting misery...
About one month after writing the above post I thought maybe I should revisit this thread. This team had been steadily climbing... getting into 2nd place in the league and to 14th in the overall standings. Since then it has been nothing but disasters.
One of the big mistakes some in fantasy sports make is when they let a player who let them down become "undraftable" in the future. Past Bryce Harper owners likely regret that attitude this year. Let me say this. Jeff Samardzjia is dead to me. I used to think this guy was a bulldog. I now thing\k he is anything but. How a guy with his size and stuff can be this hittable is mind boggling. Since not getting traded (as was expected) during the tread deadline he has proceeded to give up TWENTY earned runs in 3 starts. Remember, this was a guy coming off back to back 200+ strikeout seasons... He is crushing people right now... but I am finding him hard to bench given the fact Jose Fernandez is now getting checked for a bad shoulder that will likely result in him being shut down with the Marlins having nothing to play for. It is tough to draft Bryce Harper, DeGrom, Greinke, Pollack, Blackmon, Bogaerts, B. Phillips, A Rod, Grichuck and still find a way not to win. Sure wish I could go back and take Goldschmidt over Miggy in the first round... ok, I have vented...

Adding another log to the fire...
Released perennial Judy OF Rajai Davis because he's been in a slump and I needed some power numbers.
He proceeds to hit 3 HR in two days since.

We all have frustration trying to set our lineups during the final week of the season, not knowing if pitchers listed as starters will have their pitch count limited and not reach a full 5 innings to qualify for the win.
I ran into this with deGrom yesterday and seriously considered replacing him with Jon Broxton but I decided to stick with the one who got me this far. Only 4 wins separate the top 7 teams in the category so there's a lot of potential points to be gained or lost.
This morning I'm delighted (?) to see Broxton got the vulture win last night. If he gets another this week I'll seriously have to reconsider whether to listen to my gut more in the future.
Anyone else have similar final week misery to share?

Dropped Milone this week in favor of Hughes 2-start week.
Hughes a late scratch. Milone fills in and gets the win.
I'm 1/2 point back. I need this?

Ouch! That is brutal. The worst part is that you made the right move but got screwed. Unlike hitters who play every day, how the hell are you (or anyone else) supposed to know that Hughes had some illness and was getting progressively sicker? Hang in there. The last week of the season always is wild in terms of players hitting and pitching or resting, and odds are that others in your league also will suffer surprises at some point this week.Atlas wrote:Dropped Milone this week in favor of Hughes 2-start week.
