True, but he was pitched around last year and had a crummy lineup around him, what's new? Bottom line, his numbers are first round. C'mon. With the knowledge everyone has regarding that elbow, is it worth taking a chance in losing him for the whole year or a major part of it because he could provide some value at that spot? And this is coming from a risk freak.
I've said it many times. He should not be in the 1st round. It's obvious. Why? Because a 1st rounder goes down for year, and you're chances of winning your league are probably 15-1. Why would anyone take that chance?
Even if you're lucky enough for Pujols to stay healthy, how much better will he be than Utley, Cabrera, Holliday? I'm sure a little better but is it worth the risk?
Doughboys, you're supposed to be the voice of reason. Get back on track.
Albert Pujols is different than most players with the press. He'll actually up play an injury, rather than downplay it like 99% of all players. He always has. From his knee, to his oblique, to his shoulder, and now elbow. The only thing that has changed is the timing, he usually says these things during the season which doesen't effect a draft. The thing that should be focused on through his statements of health is that he has never had less than 525 ab's.
Now, lets take your boy, Soriano. You took him in the first round. He had a bad quad injury last year. He came back with it still gimpy, looking more like Carlos Beltran, hit home runs but virtually stopped running. When he showed up to camp this year, Piniella said that he would go 75% during spring training. When asked about stealing bases, Soriano said that he didn't know, that he would see how the leg feels.
To me, Soriano's story raises a lot more red flags than a paragraph from Pujols. Shandler probably said it best even before Pujols spoke, "This is a rare buying opportunity."
Let's clarify a couple things regarding Soriano. Piniella did not say he would go 75% in spring training. The Cubs wanted him to rest in the offseason and not run at full speed instructing him to "keep it at 75 percent" during the winter. The reason for that is so he can rest his right quad he injured 6 1/2 months ago in August.
I think it's funny people all of a sudden think he's going to slow down stealing bases based on last year when everyone knows he was injured.
When asked if he thought he could steal 40 bases this year, he said, "I don't know yet," Soriano said. "I have to see how I feel with my legs. If I feel good, 100 percent, then I can start running again."
I have confidence in Soriano. I project 45 homers and 35+ stolen bases this year. I think he'll be more comfortable his 2nd year with the Cubs and how many runs does he score with Fuckudome, D-Lee and Aramis hitting behind him and healthy?
I think his 2006 numbers are a realistic expectation. We'll see.

It sounds like someone took Soriano in a recent draft!
Isn't it funny how players look SO MUCH better when we draft them?

I've been targeting him in the 1st round for a long time. So it's not like, oh, I have him on my team now so I can start hyping him. I am already Alfonso Crazy.
oops, just saw the "wink". Disregard post.

~Lance The guy who got Pujols/Santana wasn't present at the draft until 3rd round I believe. So those were autopicks. Lucky son of a gun!

I would rather have the young BJ Upton then Soriano,i dont trust Soriano , he's been paid and the injury from last year is still bothering him.

He said the same thing about his foot a couple of years ago, he likes the public to know that he's a battler. Somebody predicted early on that Santana and Pujols would be taken by the same team in the Main and they could be right. Quite a bargain. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, manager Tony La Russa is considering some "Pujols Rules" in order to diminish that risk this season. The skipper said Thursday that the slugger will only participate on a limited basis in throwing drills and will see fewer at-bats than usual this spring. In addition, Pujols might get more days off during the season, especially Sundays before an off day to give him back-to-back breathers.
