2005 NFBC Feedback Thread

Post by nydownunder » Wed Mar 23, 2005 9:41 am

I think all the emotions of this past weekend has come to a boil. The sooner Greg and Tom get these teams put online the better for everyone's health. ....and I'd be even crankier if I had drafted Bonds.

But the again I don't go near old men, oblique strains, tight hamstrings, and chicks with d*cks. ;)

My statement was that not much difference at all between the 5th pick and 10th pick this year. You disagreed.

We can agree to disagree about that-

The difference is I did not and would not say you are wrong about feeling differently. I would say we agree to disagree.

We can agree to disagree- I think you make a lot of good points on here I will leave it at that.

First off I have a laptop but prefer not to use it during drafts even if I had power, I prefer lists and highlighters.

The rules on the front page state;

Electronic Equipment: Participants can use electronic equipment during the draft as long as it fits in the allotted draft spot at the table. There will be no Internet connections or electrical outlets, so participants bringing laptops will have to supply their own power. Cell phones are allowed at the draft table, but we encourage participants to use them sparingly and not in a way that interrupts the draft process. We request that users limit their usage to outgoing calls during the draft, not incoming calls, and anyone planning to remain on the phone for the entire draft needs to inform the NFBC about that ahead of time.

From that I deduct that they are not responsible for providing electric outlets and leave how you power your equipment up to you.

Whatever was posted on this message board or relayed in a private conversation is a moot point if it wasn't incorporated into the official rules. Not everyone reads this message board and not everyone talked personally to Greg or Tom. While I would like to see computers banned from the contest altogether I feel the official rules were vague enough for industrious individuals to supply their own power from wherever.

Ban all computers next year

I definitely accept some responsibility for getting this topic off of baseball, I will try to move it back to that.

Where did Bonds go in your league and just glancing at those owners teams do they still have a legit shot with out him.

Well Under, unlike u i guess not all of us or should i say nobody at the table i was at new this untill the geek with the laptop blurted it out, so it was a bit annoying as they all are at the draft i feel .......if u are tracking the draft to help your league and NFBC its one thing , but to just look **** up and yell it out is another...and KING: u did see , how that spat did end didnt u ?

Actually, the topic is about the event itself. The Iola, WI gang is looking for feedback from us on how to improve the NFBC.

As for the Bonds owners, I think you can overcome injuries to one or two of your players and still compete. Losing a major player makes it more important to excel in the "other" areas (lineups and FAAB).

I agree. Our facilitator at one time blurted out a recommendation of sorts at one stage which annoyed one of the managers in my league. I just think its far too difficult to make it perfect. But with the kinda of money laid out, I think taking technology away would be a bad thing for this competition. Although I had a laptop, I did not use my remote access.

My only complaint, perhaps pet peeve, is when managers from other leagues, whom knew someone in your league, would come over and talk during there breaks. I'm pretty sure they exchanged some advice or latets news.....actually I think they drafted Sanchez. Oh well.

Any doubts see (dan heatly, ray lewis, michael vick, culpepper, marshall faulk, Randy Johnson.

I have you down as the guy that rapes everyone in your league via trade-good thing you can't do that here.

Good luck.

Ken, this issue here is not the use of a computer. The issue, is that I was told personally by Greg, that I could not use the outlets during the draft. I even offered the outlet to ALL of the people in my league, but Greg said sorry, NO. So, my contention, is that if you tell one owner that he/she cannot use the outlets, to be fair no owner should be allowed to use the outlet. It didn't matter to me, that I could not use the outlet, because I came armed with 4 batteries, however, I would have preferred to not have spent time looking for those batteries or lugging them around.

For everyone's edification, I used a computer and I used sheets with highlighters, etc. And, I did not slow down the draft at all. Except for two or three picks, I always knew who we would take at any given moment. And, I did not throw out any names that were already taken 2-3 rounds earlier by the adjacent owner, unlike some owners, who used "paper trails". Plus, I was able to track, based on my projections, what stats I needed to procur in any given round. That is why I use a computer.

I made about 5 different mistakes during the draft by throwing out names already taken. It's not my fault when someone drafts Juan Uribe in round 8 and I didn't pan back 2 pages to mark him off. I never exceeded my time limit and if I had I would have been passed. So what? If I'm sure it aggravates people and throws you off your game I'll be sure to do it on purpose next year

I grant you a computer would be handy to track who has been taken and what stats remain to be acquired and who the best players are for that value needed and positions remaining, etc.

It would also be nice if I could bring a personal secretary, have a recliner brought so I was nice and comfy and have a team of research assistants available by wireless comlink attached to my personal generator I brought to be energy self-sufficient.

Clearly Greg made a mistake in how he announced the rules on laptops and how juice would be doled out. I'm sure when he catches up with 400 emails and 400 posts on the board plus re-introduces himself to his wife and kids he'll probably admit as much.

The rules weren't consistent and weren't clearly distributed to everyone. That's just a fact. They were applied differently in each city... another fact. That sucks, we all agree, right? There's also no recourse or way to compensate those who used batteries or penalize those who used extension cords, right? So let's just agree this is an issue for Greg to address for next year and consider it 'duly noted'

Does ANYONE think that the battery/extension cord issue was handled well? Ok, so we're all agreeing to the same thing, right?

Thanks,

D
