NFBC Charter Member Korey Gardner has secured a spot in the NFBC's main event. Due to another conflict, he has to draft in the phone/online league, but we'll accommodate him. Welcome back Korey and we're glad to have you back for a sixth straight season.

I was here all weekend on the boards day and night and people couldn't sign up then? They just wanted to wait for Greg to get back? Sheesh.

I was VERY charming on the phone today. I started every conversation with "yeah, we should have a Corona together." Even the folks signing up for the phone/online league liked that line. They couldn't resist.
We're hitting a home run and coming around third to officially score the winning run. This is exciting. There's a few folks out there just checking their schedules and then we'll have some work to do to finalize the leagues in each city. But we are DEFINITELY close.

I don't know if we've surprised folks in the past, but we usually come through with what we say we're going to do. That will be the case here. Friday should be a fun day for main event participants. Get ready!!
You know, it's funny, sometimes I wonder if I'm too transparent with this event. By announcing every single participant and where we are with each signup, I often leave myself open to providing too much information. Folks back out at times or credit cards don't work or things just happen, like in football, when the signups don't meet expectations. Since I'm the only one who runs things this way, I wonder if being too open is a wrong thing to do.
But then you see the excitement and the signups roll in when the honest numbers are out there. I think folks are on the boards tonight because they've seen all day today that even in tough economic times people want to be part of this special event, this special group of die-hard fantasy players. A few folks told me today that they weren't going to play this year, but after seeing the countdown of available slots and seeing all of the great names coming back for another season that they just had to get back in the main event. They made arrangements to get it done, financially and with their schedules.
I guess we'll always be open about our signups and do it this way. After today, I think we're doing it the right way. Thanks all.

Announcing signups, the countdown, and your general presence here shows everyone you're involved and enthusiastic, rather than just a company trying to make a buck off a marketing plan.
Stick with the tradition Greg, it sets you apart in the best possible way.

Greg,
We love that you post every name and keep counts for us. You are right, these are hard economic times. No question about that. As members of this "family" we want to see this event grow and sell out. We are all in this together.

OK - So I'm not as good as I thought I was; but at least I am consistent.

TWO SPOTS LEFT IN THE 2009 MAIN EVENT!!!
We now officially have 388 teams for the NFBC's main event tonight as we welcome Glen Lowy of Farmingville, New York to the big dance. I think Glen called me late this afternoon when we had five spots left and he said he would hopefully be getting back to me about grabbing a spot in the main event. Welcome aboard Glen as you're part of our eighth main event league in the Big Apple and the 26th main event league overall.
Here's all we have left:
389
390
Who wants one of the final teams in this year's competition?

you, tom and the group do yeomans work with this. i'm sure you're as surprised as the rest of us that the event can fill and even exceed expectations as with the online draft. this looks like a great year for the NFBC and it feels great just to be a part of it.
thanks and good luck to all

I've been trying to balance these final signups and a Science Fair where two of my kids had displays. They didn't think it was too funny that I was on the Internet responding to questions while they were trying to show how seven solutions cleanse pennies at different intervals !!!
(By the way, Efferdent can clean a penny in 5 seconds; Coke can take the rust off a nail in 4 hours. I'm done drinking Coke!!)
Okay, with so many people on the boards, Tom, are you ready to pick draft spots?? Let's get it done!!!!
Nah, better hold true to plan. Friday sounds like a good day to ruin everyone's work day and announce the leagues and slots. I'll stick to the plan and make sure every credit card has been run. We're still chasing a few bad cards. So hang in there a little longer and let's sell this out TOGETHER. Pete is right, we're all in this together and I know that everyone is as happy about our success this year as Tom and I are. It doesn't get any better than this.

What's fun tonight is that for Tom and me, and for the 100+ owners who have been with us every step of the way since 2004 like yourself, there's really a sense of pride tonight as we sell out early during a tough economic period. It feels like 2004 all over again when signup number 155 came in and I said we're guaranteeing this damn $100,000 grand prize even if we don't fill up more than 11 leagues. We said back then that we were committed to this event for the long-term and we meant it.
That last week in 2004 we got 45 signups and finished at a proud 195. It was a great feeling then and it's a similar feeling tonight. Tom and I really haven't changed much since 2004, it's just that we're now running 140+ leagues instead of the 16 we ran then. We had 16 leagues that first year and it was hectic. Now, it's still just Tom and me and we're running 140+. SIMPLY AMAZING.
All 388 signups to date have made this possible. You stuck with us through thick and thin. We're going to get through this bad economy and ENJOY BASEBALL dammit. I can hardly wait for the drafts to begin. I'm as pumped as you folks are. Awesome and we'll get 390 soon enough, I know it. 10 main event signups today was a good start. Tomorrow or tonight we finish it off.
Thanks all.

Receiving payment is one thing, waiting for waiting's sake is another. If we sell out and get everyone's credit cards straight, let's do this sooner than later. With the significant advantage that Gekko has, we need all the prep time we can get. An extra day or two of planning might be the difference in dethroning the manipulative master
