On a red-eye to Boston, then off to a Biotech Career Fair in the morning, I'll get my blind to Dan since I will be off the grid from about 9 AM to 5 PM (ET) tomorrow.

Interesting how close some of these stats are.... for example, in ERA John is leading Todd by--- .00001! (1.86778 to 1.86779). And Russell is right there just .00031 back at 1.86809. Also amazing that these are among the highest team ERA's!
Picked thru 15 rounds: Hitters- 143, Pitchers- 82
Still to be picked: Hitters- 67, Pitchers- 53

Sorry for the delay fellas, the pick we wanted was gone. Waiting to confer with Dan before I send another one into Doughy

While we are waiting for Dave....
Fellas, make sure when giving me a pick, that that player is not already drafted.
If not caught right away, you will be penalized by repicking at the end of the blind round.

First off, to whoever thought it was a good idea to take the player we wanted in the blind round
And now, before everyone else runs to the position, let's grab our middle infielder off the board..
Cal Ripken, SS, Baltimore Orioles 1991
.323 AVG (210/650) / 99 R / 34 HR / 114 RBI / 6 SB

Loving the tapping of 1930....
Woody English, Eddie Morgan, Hack Wilson....
1N 1930-
Hack Wilson had 190 rbi, or was it 191, depends on which record book we read.
Nobody, not even during the steroid era has come close.
I was the last year for 'one hoppers' bouncing over the fence being counted as home runs.
A first baseman went through a nine inning game with no chances!
Lefty Grove led the Majors in strike outs with 209.
This figure doesn't look like much, but only Hack Wilson himself (84), had as many as 75 strike outs amongst hitters.
While Hack Wilson stole the spotlight from Babe Ruth with a 56/190 year, Ruth nearing the end of his career still put up a 49/153.
The effects Ruth had on the era had come to fruition. 10 players had at least 30 home runs. Only one player (Kiki Cuyler) would have as many as 25 stolen bases.
Ruth had forever changed the game.
32 players would have at least 100 rbi
36 players would have at least 100 runs
Making these stats even more extraordinary, there were less games (154).
There were less teams (16) as well. Averaging out to every team having two players with triple rbi/runs.
More pitchers were being used. 1930 was the first year without a pitcher reaching 300 innings pitched.
Hod Lisenbee pitched 237 innings.
He walked 86 batters and struck out just 47.
Almost a 1/2 k/bb ratio and one k every five innings.
Lefty Grove won the pitching triple crown-
28 wins, 2.54 ERA, 209 strike outs.
Showboat Fisher would have his best year.
Fisher leads all lifetime National League hitters with players having at least 20 hits with a .374 average. (Great trivia question)
In 1930, he finished seventh in hitting with a .374 average in helping lead the St Louis Cardinals to a pennant.
A great hitter, he couldn't field a lick and would be hidden as well as could be by his Managers. Most of his .374 average came from April when he replaced a player who had contracted mumps. Fisher hit .462 in April, but the player recovered and was given back the starting gig. Fisher was left to pinch hit and sporadically start the rest of the season. He only got two at bats in a six game World Series.
Fisher got the nickname 'Showboat' because the play and movie was popular enough to be in the St Louis area all summer.
Like Ruth, he hit with his feet together and his hands around his belt buckle. Fans liked it and called him 'Showboat', loving the double meaning.
Fisher liked the nickname and it stuck.

"Lefty Grove won the pitching triple crown-

If they kept track of saves back then, it would be the quadruple crown, as Grove lead the major leagues with 9.
He also (unsurprisingly) lead the AL in whip, tying Dazzy Vance of the Dodgers for best in baseball at 1.144
Best pitcher ever? A strong case can be made for Robert Moses "Lefty" Grove.
