Speaking of the prize money, I think it would be a lot easier to just pay everyone and settle up.

Kind of rigid IMHO, unless he gets paid a commission?

I think most of the guys here will play NFBC anyhow, but could probably use the $$ now for Christmas, bills, or just make a few cents in interest--- instead of it being locked into an account that otherwise wouldn't require payment until March (after most of us get our tax refunds).

Oh well, Shawn's probably going to win it anyhow, so it won't be an issue. :D

Since we're learning about players of the past here, how about the "ugliest player ever".

Don Mossi was actually a pretty good pitcher winning 101 games during his 12 years in MLB(1954-1965). Primarily a reliever, he pitched in 3 of the 4 World Series games as a rookie for the Indians in 1954, tossing 4 scoreless innings. He also pitched in the 1957 All-Star game, coming in with 1 out in the 9th and a two-run AL lead and runners on 1st and 2nd. He got Eddie Mathews on a called 3rd strike, before Ernie Banks hit a rbi single. Baserunner Gus Bell was gunned down at 3b for out #2 before Bob Grim was called upon to get Gil Hodges for the final out.

Mossi had a most appropriate nickname---- "EARS"

I love those '71 Topps. How did you post side to side like that? I tried before and messed it up

Russel- I think it had something to do with the picture size, nothing I did specifically. I han no spaces in between the "Image" posts, otherwise just posted as normal.

1971 topps were the first cards I collected as a kid, and loved them too. The black edges really were hard to keep looking nice. The only thing I didn't like was the back only had 1970 stats and a career totals line, no year-by-year stats.

Had to pick up this baby for that info:

Sadly, those cards got tossed with a move in the mid 1970's.

Who knew they would be worth something some day?

While we wait……………………….Norm Cash

Norm was taken in round 8 by Glenn

Cash was drafted by the White Sox out of college in 1955, he made his Major League debut three years later on June 18, 1958. In his first game, Cash appeared as a pinch runner, he was promptly wiped out on a ground ball double play.

His first plate appearance was six days later against the Yankees. Cash pinch hit for pitcher Bob Keegan, he struck out.

Cash played sporadically over the ‘58&’59 seasons. In the fall of 1959 the Sox traded Cash and others to Cleveland for Minnie Minoso and others. But Cash never played a game for the Tribe. At the end of spring training in 1960 Cleveland traded Cash to Detroit Steve Demeter.

Although he never played with Cleveland, here is his 1960 Topps card.

The Tigers installed Cash as their first baseman where he remained for the next 15 years. In 1961, the year Glenn used, Norm hit .361 with 41 homers. He never hit over .283 again during any season.

Cash hit 377 career home runs. His first was off Frank Lary in 1959 and his last came 15 years later against the Brewers on 8/1/74.

The Tigers released Cash 6 days later, he never played again.

Norm Cash died at the age of 51. He drowned near his boat in 15 feet of water after an evening of diner and drinks.

Seems to me Cash held (still holds?) the record for biggest BA decline, from .361 in 1961 to .243 in 1962, a drop of 118 points  . His HR decline too, but 41 to 39 not so much of a big deal

According to Baseball Digest (Feb. 1998) only 4 qualifiers have had 100+ point BA declines in MLB history-

Norm Cash

Max Carey 1925(.343)- 1926(.231)

DocFarrell 1927(.316)- 1928(.215)

Scott Brosius 1996(.304)- 1997(.203)

Sorry guys. I actually sent Dan an E-mail with my picks at 8:30am this morning knowing I'd be out all day and not wanting to hold things up.

When I checked the site and saw Dan was still waiting on my picks, I figured he either just missed the E-mail or it went to spam. So for the first time in my entire life, I actually posted something from a phone thinking I was giving him a head's up.

When I got home and checked, I see that I actually misspelled his E-mail address. Sorry again guys for holding things up, feel like a jerk. I forwarded the email sent this morning to the correct address just now and Dan should now have my picks.

On another point, the first cards I ever bought and my favorite set to date is the '75 Topps set. A very unique set that still holds a special place in my heart.

Without looking it up, can you name me the man who wore all four New York area uniforms?

The Yankees, Giants, Dodgers, and Mets?

Old trivia question....
