Roto Snips
Re: Roto Snips
'Elvis Andrus will scale back his workouts the next few days due to flexor tendinitis in his forearm.
The Rangers aren't worried about the injury, but will play things cautiously with their prized shortstop. Andrus has also been dealing with a sore back which caused him to miss a couple of days this spring. He shouldn't have any problem getting over these minor issues and being ready to go for Opening Day. '
Is it me?
I really dislike it when RotoWorld totally buys into what they are reporting. It's not enough that they tell us what a team relays to them. They pass on that news as if 100% true and add to that team's report with more sugar.
Two words stood out to me...forearm and back.

Re: Roto Snips
Remember, the dbacks are starting a week earlier this year so they're pitchers are ahead of the rest of the league. Yeah that Arroyo signing was a little strange. Towers must like his "grit.""Randall Delgado held the Dodgers to one run on four hits over 3 2/3 innings Thursday.
He struck out a pair and didn't walk anyone. Delgado was removed after retiring the first two batters in the fourth and then watched RJ Hively serve up a home run to the first batter he faced to tie the game. The Bronson Arroyo signing pushed Delgado to the bullpen, but he's a nice insurance policy to have around."
3 2/3 IP this early in spring? Man, he must have been efficient with his pitches. Is Arizona SURE Arroyo is a better option than this guy?

Re: Roto Snips
"Lucas Duda homered for the Mets' only run in a loss to the Marlins on Saturday.
Duda and Ike Davis played in the same game yesterday, with Duda collecting a double and a hard out and Davis homering. Duda's homer today came with Davis off. The two players are battling for a starting job at first base, with the loser perhaps getting traded."
So, in essence, the loser wins?

Re: Roto Snips
A two-fer:
"Tyler Flowers blasted a two-run homer on Sunday, helping to lead the White Sox to a 9-7 victory over the Ranges in Cactus League play.
The mammoth shot off Neftali Feliz in the sixth inning was Flowers' only hit in two at-bats on the afternoon. He's the favorite to open the season as the White Sox starting backstop, and his power potential makes him a worthwhile late-round gamble in two-catcher mixed leagues."
"Neftali Feliz struggled in his Cactus League debut against the White Sox on Sunday, surrendering two runs on three hits in his inning of work.
Feliz allowed the light-hitting Tyler Flowers to take him deep for a two-run homer in the sixth inning, as a fastball caught far too much of the plate. While he entered camp as the favorite to win the closer's job, a strong showing by Joakim Soria on Sunday may have closed the gap a bit."
So, if I get this right, Flowers (wrong name for a baseball player by the way...no offense, Ray!) is a light-hitter with power potential? Is there anyone out there that is a heavy-hitter with no power?
I know these were written by two different people, but c'mon! You are going to make Doughboys spit his breakfast Doritos Locos Tacos!

"Matt Garza struggled mightily in his Brewers debut on Sunday, allowing four runs on four hits in his lone inning of work against the Rockies in Cactus League play.
Garza also walked a pair and didn't record a strikeout. Afterwards he admitted that he had difficulty sleeping on Saturday night, and stuck to throwing only fastballs and changeups during the appearance. He still has plenty of time to right the ship before the start of the regular season, but fantasy owners should tread with caution until he improves his command."
Couldn't sleep? Worried about a Cactus League start maybe? Left his "Hello Kitty" jammies at home maybe?

"Ian Stewart (nose) was scratched from the Angels' Cactus League lineup on Monday.
Stewart was accidentally hit in the nose by his young daughter and will meet with the Angels' medical staff on Monday to determine whether there are any fractures. He is in Angels camp this spring as a non-roster invitee. "
I admit I do not know how old his "young" daughter is, but he is only 28 so she can't be that old. You know you are injury prone when...and sure, kids can hurt you. My kids broke me from lying on the floor to watch TV by dive-bombing my kidneys from the back of the couch...but really!

"Astros manager Bo Porter expects Japhet Amador to make his spring debut on Saturday.
Amador was delayed getting to camp because his pregnant wife was ill in Mexico. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 305 pounds, and 27-year-old has been mentioned as a contender for the starting first base job, but he's likely to begin the season in Triple-A. Amador hit .368/.419/.693 with 36 home runs and 121 RBI in 104 games last year in the Mexican League, so he's worth watching."
It is strange to think that if Amador ever plays in Houston, Prince Fielder will be the smallest starting MLB first baseman in the state of Texas.

"Carlos Pena went 1-for-1 with an RBI single in Sunday's 3-1 victory over the Reds in Cactus League action. The 35-year-old slugger is hitting just .231 (3-for-13) this spring, but could earn a spot on the Angels Opening Day bench. He still has a good eye and prodigious power, but his days of fantasy relevance are long gone."
"...still has a good eye..."? He struck out 92 times in 280 AB! I guess this proves you need two good eyes.

"Yovani Gallardo has been named the Brewers' Opening Day starter by manager Ron Roenicke.
It's the fifth straight Opening Day assignment for Gallardo. The 28-year-old right-hander posted a career-worst 4.18 ERA in 180 2/3 innings last season, but he has looked sharp so far in the Cactus League. Milwaukee opens its 2014 campaign March 31 against the Braves."
Strange...I thought they would give that start to Garza?

Sorry...I could not say that with a straight face!
Well, at least Gallardo is going against the Braves so that will be one game in where he gets lots of K's!

While there are some big names in this bunch of cuts, none of the moves are terribly surprising. The 34-year-old Duncan struggled in Cactus League play, hitting just .208 (5-for-24) with no homers and five RBI."

"Aroldis Chapman suffered a laceration and contusion above his left eye after taking a Salvador Perez comeback line drive off the face on Wednesday night.
The good news is that Chapman never lost consciousness throughout the ordeal. He was immobilized and carted off the field, and the rest of the game between the Reds and Royals was cancelled after the scary incident. Chapman's timetable for a return to the mound is secondary to his health at this point, and no indication was given as to what his immediate future looks like. "
This is wicked bad. This is one where if you are attending the game you take a knee and hope the guy is ok. Got to be every pitchers nightmare. I hope and fervently pray he will be ok for the long-term.
I guess medically it is "good news" that he did not lose consciousness. For me, if you are going to knock me out, REALLY knock my pansy ass out and wake me after the pain meds have been administered.

A fantasy buddy and I have a little game.
We take an injury, any injury, and put it on the lips of our wife or girlfriend....ok, get your mind out of the gutter!
It grades the seriousness of an injury.
It works like this...
We simply replace the word 'headache' for the injury,
For instance, "Not tonight, Honey, I just got smashed in the face by a baseball!"
So, Aroldis Chapman has an injury we would understand. Chapman passes the test.
But if our wife or girlfriend said, "Not tonight, Honey, I had my wisdom teeth pulled a few days ago and went back to have them cleaned up today!"
That one is borderline.
The Jurickson Profar excuse gets a 'C'.
A bruised calf for Tulo is a laugher and a fail.
So, I was dumbfounded when this Rotoblurb came across today.....
'Johnny Cueto was scratched from his scheduled Cactus League start on Thursday due to scapula irritation.'
"Not tonight, Honey, I have an irritated scapula!"
I guess my first reaction would be, ' I thought that was what you spread cake frosting with! I don't know where your scapula is, but I promise I won't touch it!'
I think I have to give Cueto a 'C'.

"Alex Wood allowed just one run over six innings Saturday in the Braves' 3-1 win over the Braves.
Wood has been one of the Grapefruit League's most impressive pitchers, and he's currently sporting a 0.45 ERA. If he were a better bet to throw 180-200 innings, we'd probably rate him as a top-30 overall starter right now. Most likely, he'll come in well under that. However, he should be a force in mixed leagues early on. "
"...the Braves' 3-1 win over the Braves." The Braves win and still lose. Same old story. Playing with themselves. No wonder they strike out so much. They are going blind. Didn't they listen to their mothers?

David Wright went 0-for-3 on Monday and is hitting .182 with no homers in 33 at-bats this spring.
The Mets held Wright back at the beginning of the spring, figuring he wouldn't need the extra at-bats. Now it's starting to seem as though he might. It's not really anything to worry about, though. '

I don't post often, but I was surprised no one commented on this one.
Joe Saunders said Sunday that he's currently dealing with the "dead arm" phase of spring training.
The veteran southpaw still feels confident, noting that the Rangers know full well what he's capable of. He's currently battling with Colby Lewis and a host of other candidates to begin the season as the fifth starter in the Rangers rotation.
Did I miss something? When was the last time this guy had a live arm?

Yu Darvish (neck) will not start for the Rangers on Opening Day.
Darvish is dealing with discomfort in his neck and will be sent back to Dallas for further evaluation, as the Rangers are concerned that has other issues. He's at risk for beginning the year on the disabled list. The Rangers have yet to announce a replacement for Opening Day, but Martin Perez is a logical candidate.

Blanton did little to make a case for a rotation spot, so it was just a matter of whether the Angels were willing to eat his remaining salary to let him go. Ultimately, they were. The Angels will absorb his $7.5 million salary for this season and a $1 million buyout on his 2015 option to cut him loose. He'll surely get an opportunity elsewhere now that he can be had at the major league minimum, but we're not expecting much. "
Look no further Texas. A perfect complement to Saunders. Never can have too many "live" arms.
