I had bids on Padilla right below Santiago and Rodney

I drafted Bard in out Satellite league in hopes that he would ultimately close...I think he will eventually.

Good to see a new manager going against conventional wisdom rather than just playing it safe.

Tell that to the Thornton owners.

Wow, in my NFBC XII Vegas league, I put in 147 for Arrieta with no second bid! I hate when that happens, I could have and should have bid only a $1 on him, oh well. Hector Santiago went for 216 in my league. Bard went for 124.

When I first read your comment I thought you were talking about me. LOL As in, you newbie you overbid. :D Which I probably did.

FAAB should be done already, usually in this first week it takes a little longer...

I'm equally interested in the drops as I am in who goes for what. Who are people giving up on after a week or two weeks? Injuries are obvious, but who else is going to fall onto the waiver wire?

Average Santiago winning bid seems well over 300, average Rodney winning bid high 100's. Seems about right. If these guys have jobs, that means a couple guys in each league lost a closer. Seems like reasonable bids in order to avoid punting a category week 2.

Got Santiago in my Online Championship league for 177...runner up bid was 175 ! I love when that happens ! Lost Farnsworth, so needed something, and like Santiago paired with A.Reed in that one.

Considering that the BoSox 'pen has been blowing up like an arsonist at an ammo dump, it may not be long before Bard goes back to the 'pen and takes over the closer role. If this keeps up could a call to Roy Oswalt's agent be on the horizon?

santiago has 5 saves in his MLB and minor league career. he's a lefty. plays in hitter's park. that's a lot of money for someone so unproven IMO. {this means he will put up over 40 saves this year ;) )

reed was supposed to be the guy this year. then it was crain. then thornton. and now santiago. 4 weeks from now, the odds say it will be someone not named santiago :P

yes, team oswalt will be in high demand (esp if chris carpenter can't make it back)

The first paragraph is all true but being good isn't a prerequisite to getting saves.

The second paragraph is not true. Ventura never said anything about who the closer was going to be. It was all speculation. Santiago has the job. If he doesn't fail too often early in the season, he'll keep it no matter what Reed or Crain do. If he stinks, he'll get replaced.

It's a gamble. I gambled $407 in a ME because Farnsworth got hurt (on a team I otherwise really like) and got him (runner up $324) . I gambled almost $400 on him a Super and didn't even finish in 2nd. He went for $723. He went for over $350 in the DIamond and the Ultimate too (not me).

I got Rodney for $103 and Bard for $56 in 12 team Derek Van Riper Satellite league. Won Rodney by $5 and Bard by $10. Have Farnsworth on DL so I needed to fill in for him while he's out. Maddon has show his preference for Rodney by using him in three consecutive high leverage spots.Don't care for Rodney's skills but saves are saves! Just need him to hold the role for a month or so 'til Farnsworth gets back.May wind up with a closer in Bard down the road;if so, he's biggest FA closer bargain in NFBC this year.
