I'm not defending some of these clowns and the arrogant ones, of which there are at least 10 of them, but most of them though are pretty good. There are approx 700,000 pitches thrown in a MLB season and 140,000 outs/plays. If we counted up all the really bad missed/blown ones, how many really are there? 10? 20? 50? In a game with so many different things going on and at times played at lightening quick speeds, its unreasonable to expect 100% accuracy all the time IMO.

Yeah I can't kill the ump for that call.. No one, the announcers or anyone else, noticed who caught the ball until you show the replay. Very good acting job by Moreland and Grimm.. One of the strangest plays ever... The first base ump is not to blame at all as he was looking at the foot on the bag, rightfully so. Yes, maybe one of the other umps could have seen it better, but I can't be too upset about this call.

Me neither.
The umpire's eyes are at the first base bag, waiting to hear the sound of the ball being caught.
Heck, the Manager went out to argue if the foot was on the bag, not who caught the ball.
It's just a mistake. I know I make more than most. I can't blame the ump for making this one.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

All the more reason why there should be replay. Makes short work of yet another missed call by the umps.

I watch alot of games and see alot of missed calls. Usually they're calling someone out who is safe. My theory on this is they like to punch the air like a tough guy, so much cooler looking than swinging their arms back for the safe call. The strikezone varies from inn to inn for many of them. They are just a complete joke. No one said it was an easy job and perhaps it wasn't meant for humans.

If the robots are coming no matter what we do the next occupation they need to take over is MLB umpire. Why should factory workers be the only ones to lose their jobs?!

I personally am not for replay on out/safe calls. This would be a disaster. The game is long enough. Not saying I'm right and maybe it would work... I just don't like the idea of every out/safe call being reviewed. Maybe 1 or 2 challenges per team, per game, or something like that.

I think (esp. w/ regard to this particular play) it would take a guy up in a booth about .002 sec's to radio down to the keystone cops on the field that they got this one wrong. You just HAVE TO have a different person (not onfield umps looking at replay) in the booth monitoring the game. As evidenced by Angel the Ahole, even when the video is incontrivertible they are too stubborn to admit they are wrong.

I care not how long a game takes, but getting the call right. It certainly would not need to be utilized for every single play. As you mentioned Alan, perhaps each team gets a certain # of challenges per game. Something needs to be done. We have the technology, why not use it ?

Bottom line on all this Replay stuff will be depending on what ones perspective is. Wrong calls will become right calls and right calls will become wrong calls. If you are a fan and your team gets a call reversed in your favor you will be happy. If a wrong call that went your teams way intially is overturned you will be pissed and start cussing instant replay. Same with Fantasy, hits change into errors and errors change into hits. Overtime it will all be 50/50/ - but the calls will supposedly be right.

So I say- leave the human element in as much as possible... it makes for more discussion....
