2. Estimating Faab blind bidding:
Slots 1-5: $350 across the board
Slot 6: $200
Slot 7: $100
Slots 8-15: close to zero
Not true. Just look at the Platinum bidding for further proof of what folks valued each draft spot.
What do u mean not true? I was listing what I would bid via blind Faab bidding. If it was in person live bidding, that changes the answer obviously
Okay, makes sense. Here were the live Platinum winning bids:
Bill Phipps 420
Jim Ferrari 400
Nick Cassavetes 320
Glenn Lowy 200
John Thayer 160
David DiDonato 140
Andy Robinson 120
KJ Duke 100
Dave Potts 70
Steve Jupinka 40
Joe Martens 40
Derek Pierson 50
KC Cha 30
Jim Stanard 10
John Lemke 10

Given those numbers, I would have went to at least $350 vs Nick C. I might even get nervous that he was taking correa and go even higher, but since this draft was on sunday, I'd probably have some data points on who Nick C likes

I believe the correct play out of the early slots this year was hitter/SP/SP.
A day or two before week one main event in NYC, the "dream start" for me from the 5 hole was:
1. Correa
2. Harvey
3. Syndergaard
4. M.Franco
5. Best power hitter
However, harvey got blasted by the astros a couple hours before the main event. He complained of his mechanics being off and feeling awkward. Not exactly what I want to hear out of my second round pick so I downgraded harvey and replaced him with strasburg. Even took strasburg over sale and bumgarner. Will see how that turns outs.
In the 4th round, franco was there, along with nelson Cruz. Based on my knowledge of adp's and trends, I took an educated gamble that franco would make it back to me in the 5th. I selected cruz in the 4th and fortunately franco was still there in the 5th
I'm not afraid to take my guys over adp darlings. Anyone can look at my drafts and see that.
I liked Correa over most of the top 5 but not Donaldson, especially with multiple talented SS's later on in Seager/Lindor/Story. Story is on all 4 of my Vegas drafts; wish I had moved him up sooner than I did but once it became clear he'd be hitting in front of Cargo and Arenado I wanted him where I could get him. Reyes floating around made him a steal, he's Ian Desmond (7th rd) with a higher BA in a better lineup.
As for Rd3, pitching was obvious over most but Cano was a great batter play there (and the only one in most lges) ...310/30 seems doable ... not many 300 hitters with pop these days. Passed on him in Platinum after running clock to zero in favor of Keuchel, my toughest call especially with pitching harder to get in HS leagues.

Correa and Donaldson went 5/6 as expected. I wanted one of them but there were 4-5 bidders on those slots that were intent on pushing prices. If I kept bidding they probably would've run to 200. I settled at 8/Machado plus the bonus of Arrieta on the way back.

Agreed on both accounts. I think the 7th pick is the earliest I would have drafted Kershaw. Picking Kershaw in top-5 guarantees missing all the top hitters.

I guess it depends on who you like. Given how much I rate Kershaw above the other pitchers, I was satisfied with the two main events that I went Kershaw/Encarnacion and Kershaw/Bautista.

uh oh. He went 0-4 with 2 Ks. He is "on pace" for an April fall from grace. 3rd rounder at best next year.

Time to throw him in the faab pool with Giles.
