Putting my plan together and right now my foundation will consist of:

Trout
Betts
Bryant
Arenado
Altuve
Goldschmidt

I feel pretty good about that group. Just gotta find some pitching now.

A mixture of stars and scrubs with an extreme LIMA bent. With some luck, you might be able to do this for 243 bucks. Just enough money to fill out the the rest of the squad.

I'll begin with mine

1B-Paul Goldschmidt
2B-Jose Altuve
3B-Kris Bryant
CI-Nolan Arenado
OF-Mike Trout

I'm hoping that foundation will be good enough to compete.

I can't reveal my entire plan just yet. I may add Kershaw, Scherzer and Bumgarner to that list too. I noticed I didn't have any pitchers listed. I'll need them.

Well that isn't gonna work, those were all the pitchers I was rostering. I'll have to retool my strategy.

Well yeah. He was freakin awesome as my No. 1 SP in this league last year. Why wouldn't I want to bring him back?

After looking at some recent draft results, I have only one question: How the hell do you fit all of these guys in at those prices? Something has to give tonight and hopefully I still have enough money left for the end game. I just have a feeling I won't be able to resist some of these goodies early on and that could be my downfall. We'll see.

Deals can be had......just need to be flexible to your game plan and be ready to strike.

AAV averages out pretty consistent but every draft is different. It is a fun ride!

See you in a couple hours!

Great fun, as usual, Andy.

I came in wanting Kershaw at any price. I wasn't going to go all season without owning my favorite player on at least one team. I think I did alright. 158/102 split was two bucks off my allocations. I bungled the reserve rounds, but that's okay.

These are a blast. Andy does a tremendous job filling these up and making them happen.

Here's my squad. This was my fifth auction, so I'm trying out different stuff to keep it interesting and to prep for NYC. My split was 171-89, while the room was 170-90 with a high of 110 and a low of 60 for pitching. Overall, I'm satisfied given the level of competition. Pitching's a bit of a bitch so far. It's really a question of how much risk you're comfortable with. Apparently, I'm comfortable with a lot...

C: Sanchez (19); D'Arnaud (2)
1B: Hosmer (16); Duda (1)
2B: Villar when he qualifies (28); Walker (2)
SS: Story (24)

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Good auction for you. I like lots of your later choices but these two I think will have especially good "value".

Another good team. I am surprised Sanchez went for less than $20 and McCullers went for more than $10. Interesting.

A little surprised he didn't go for more. I mean, this is around where I have him in my notes, but I thought I was being a bit conservative, anticipating more love by other owners which would probably push him out of my comfort zone.

Is this around the price you have been seeing in other auctions?

Love this. He will not be so cheap next year.

OK first off, I'm still dead tired. Six hours of drafting or auctioning is crazy. Now onto my thoughts about my team.

My plan going in was to get Trout and Goldschmidt as my offensive foundation pieces. I wasn't going to pay more than $45 for Trout so once he got to $46 I was out. I then decided to take the savings and get Harper for $35 to team with Goldschmidt but he too got bid up so I bowed out on him as well. So about 10 minutes into the auction and I had to scrap my entire plan.

So I focused on teaming Goldschmidt with Correa and then taking the $10 and spreading that around for the rest of my offense. That helped me to get Myers who I really think is underpriced right now. I was hoping to get Braun for $25 and saved a little there and thought Schwarber would go in the $20s with all the talk yesterday about how he's going to lead off this season. So getting him for $16 felt like a huge bargain.

But after that I missed on nearly everybody I wanted offensively so I was left to fill in the blanks as best I could. I certainly wasn't planning on three Brewers but when I missed on every third baseman I wanted the only one worth a crap who was left was Shaw. And when I missed out on Buxton who I really wanted there wasn't much speed left for me in the OF and that led me to pursue Broxton. Overall, I think my offense is sold but I'd like it a lot more if I had gotten Trout or Harper.

With the pitching staff I really wanted Cueto and Strasburg. Got Cueto but Strasburg went for more than I was going to pay. Was hoping to get Taillon for $11 and did but other than that absolutely nothing went the way I planned with my SPs. No clue if this staff will be any good at all. I was just trying to find guys who generally don't suck. I was planning on going super cheap for saves and getting at least one closer in waiting in the reserve draft and accomplished that. But overall, no idea if this pitching staff will be any good.

So that's how things went for me before I fell asleep from exhaustion last night.

Wow, that's a workout. Five hours of being active for all 345 players nominated is tough. Oh well, it was a lot of fun and now let's see how this plays out.

I got thrown off a bit when I bid at $18 for Carrasco and instead got him for $24. Damn those owners who jump players. That was the one time +1 got me and it really made it tough to fill out my staff. I didn't want to bid that high for my second SP. I think my offense is okay, but I still need another SP. I don't have enough strikeouts from this staff.

Here you go:

C - Russell Martin $7
C - Francisco Cervelli $3
1B - Mike Napoli $9
2B - Jose Altuve $37
SS - Brad Miller $5
3B - Matt Carpenter $20
MI - Ben Zobrist $8
CI - Greg Bird $1
U - Victor Martinez $6
OF - Gregory Polanco $26
OF - Giancarlo Stanton $25
OF - Adam Duvall $11
OF - Dexter Fowler $9
OF - Jarrod Dyson $7

P - Carlos Carrasco $24
P - Cole Hamels $19
P - Marcus Stroman $15
P - Drew Smyly $8
P - Lucas Giolito $1
P - Tony Watson $7
P - Raisel Iglesias $6
P - Drew Storen $1
P - Zach Davies $5

Can't be any worse than last year's teams. Good luck all and thanks.
