New Idea: Bidding $ for Draft Positions
OK...
5 drafters to go.
Look at list..."Hook...you're up"
(Hook) "I bid zero on slot 9"
Going once...twice...
(Lance) "I bid one"
Going once, twice, sold to Lance for one.
"Let's see...next up is Billy."
(Billy) "I bid zero on slot 11"
Once, twice, sold.
Etc.
Either you will get you slot for zero, or another remaining owner will decide that it's worth 1 of 1000 fa dollars or more.
The last remaining slot will go to the last remaining owner.
By the way...I still hate giving owners total control of their draft slots and I think Blind Bidding sucks.

If your method was the case Lance then the most important thing will be the nominating order!
1) If that is random, we might as well stay with KDS
2) Or maybe you want to auction that off too?

That's crazy talk, Hook!
If ONE FREE AGENT BIDDING DOLLAR is really that valuable to you...you deserve to get the perceived "worst" pick for zero.
You can bid one dollar more than the leading bid for ANY draft slot at any time during the LIVE auction.
The name draw is just to keep things moving.

Lance if you don't understand my point, you may need another drink.
You don't have a way to break ties
You say the first Zero bid wins (if no one else bids on #9)
In that case how did Gekko get to be the nominator then?
If the nomination order is random why would we bother with all the rest of this?
It's not broken, so it doesn't need to be fixed.
(especially when you don't have a workable plan to replace it with)

Am I correct in that your main problem is an owner not getting a draft slot he wanted for zero?
There can be no ties in an auction, so that argument is mute.
If 4 owners wish to act like little babies and refuse to bid one fake dollar...they have no ground to stand on complaining about it.
(I'm talking in general here.)

New Idea: Bidding $ for Draft Positions
Here's a more detailed explanation of what I would like to see.
1.Owners are given League assignment by management.
2.A live auction takes place for each league.(Also could be done on line)
Lots of choices here and up for discussion as to when the draft starts in regard to the completion of the auction. Personally I like 21 minutes after the last spot is awarded. Could be the day of the auction; at a specified time before the auction, the night before at a banquet, at a breakfast the day of, then return at 1:00 PM east coast time, etc. etc.
3. (If Live in person) The auctions are run by the facilitor of each league simultaneouly.
4.The Facilitor draws a postion 1-15 at random out of a hat. THAT postion goes up for auction. Bids of zero are allowed. There can't be any ties just as there aren't ties in other LIVE FANTASY AUCTIONS.
5. The name of the owner with the winning bid is entered onto the Draft board in the corresponding position.
6.Here's how it would go.
First number drawn is 4.
Facilator opens bidding on postion four.
Bidding ensues.
"Going ONCE,Going TWICE, SOLD!!
Postion 4 goes for $87 FAAB
Winning owners name placed in slot 4.
Second number drawn is 11.
Facilator Auctions off postion 11.
Bidding ensues.
"Going ONCE,Going TWICE, SOLD!!
Postion 11 goes for $33 FABB
Winning owners name placed in slot 11.
Third number drawn is 1.
Facilator Auctions off position 1.
Bidding ensues
"Going ONCE,Going TWICE, SOLD!!
Postion 1 goes for $473 FABB
Winning owners name placed in slot 1.
AND so on until all 15 filled.(Obviously, when there is one owner left he would recieve the remaining slot. Which could make for some interesting non-bidding. That brings up the problem of no bids on a slot. To overcome this happenstance a "Default" owner could be drawn on the blind (but not revealed)along with each each position. IF the postion it is paired with doesn't recieve a bid the "Default" owner would get the slot. If the drawn default owner already has a slot another name would be drawn from the hat. (I don't see this happening often but it has to be planned for). So if postion seven is drawn first and no bids are made the "Default" owner would be placed in slot seven and not charged any FAAB$
STATS adjusts FAAB totals to reflect bidding before first free agency session.

Wishful thinking here...
I wish next season more than 46% of the leagues money pool goes to the league winners.
