3RR No. Hell No. and No.
NFBC Magazine Champions League
Not needed. Hell, with the way the "Big 3" went this year, it may not be needed in football either.

Seeing as how KDS has been a crapshoot since the beginning, let's see how the picks turn out a couple of times before we start juggling the system. Hell, I was in 3 leagues LY and I still couldn't tell you how I wound up picking where I did. It was a 50-50 whether I entered my preferences prperly or not and I remain clueless as to which leagues I may have done it correctly or even if it mattered. With the "New and Improved" single sequence set-up, I suspect we'll get a truer read on individual preferences and maybe a better accomodation of those preferences.

I don't have mixed auction prices, which could yield slightly different results, but you can sort auction prices for any given year to determine perceived value differences from front to back of a draft round. Below are averages over the 2005 auctions.
Round 1 value, beginning to end: $43-$32
Round 2 value, beginning to end: $31-$27
Round 3 value, beginning to end: $26-$24
Round 4 value, beginning to end: $23-$21
Round 5 value, beginning to end: $21-$19
Round 6 value, beginning to end: $19-$17
Round 7 value, beginning to end: $17-$15
Round 8 value, beginning to end: $15-$14
... after that the slope flattens out.
So, in theory the top 8 rounds would be worth ...
for slot #1 is 43+27+26+21+21+17+17+14= $186
for slot #15 is 32+31+24+23+19+19+15+15 = $178
Using 3RR, it would change to ...
slot #1 is 43+27+24+23+19+19+15+15 = $185
slot #15 is 32+31+26+21+21+17+17+14 = $179
For the entire draft, it would be the auction league-equivalent of top slots getting a $264 auction budget vs a low slot getting a $256 auction budget. With 3RR it would be more like $263 vs $257. Not much difference, still an edge for the top slots (but a lesser slope than football lges).

That's actually one of the factors I am most interested in seeing in the Magazine Champions League. How the KDS works out with the new system and how happy the participants are with their actual Draft Position vs. preferred Draft Position!?! And the correlation between the two.

That's a good analysis Kevin and it's interesting to see how little difference there is in baseball. No way is it just $1-$2 in football. The way you did it for baseball is solid analysis.
Yeah, we'll stay away from 3RR for baseball and let the draft unfold for 30 rounds. I'm also interested in the KDS orders for these 15 participants. Let the games begin!!!
We'll also run a 12-team industry draft that same week, so we should have some fun analysis in two more weeks.

If anything, 3rr in baseball, would be a detriment to the top pickers not an equalization factor.

Just a reminder that I need the KDS preferences for the 15 owners who will be competing in this league by Monday, Dec. 10th by noon CST. I'll then set this league up with MDC.com. Thanks.

Does this mean we get our draft slot today- It will give me a break from the fun task I am working on this week of evaluating which guy I would want to target for a second catcher.

I'm just waiting on one more KDS and then we'll be good to go. But I've randomly picked the order already and I'll apply the KDS soon. I'll announce the draft order before the end of the business day, for sure. I just want this final KDS.

[/QUOTE]Perry, Perry, Perry hope is eternal this time of year, maybe this year I will only beat you by 10-15 points unlike the last two when it got a bit worse than that.
Maybe we can bet a beer on it- I may come out for some spring training but I am definitely coming for ASU/Georgia next September.

Sorry to everyone for the delay. I forgot about the KDS and Greg was kind enough to extend the deadline for me. Thanks Greg and sorry everyone.
Looks like I'll be starting out with V-Mart and Russell
.
Should be a fun league and I'm definitely looking forward to the competition.

Now THAT is an interesting array of preferences..and one I predict won't be duplicated Anyplace.
Only ONE person went straight 1-15?
I know there are a lot of out-of-the-box thinkers in this group and I would love to discuss some of the rationales (although I understand some people not wanting to show what color their thongs are).
Personally I like having the top ranked players - to whatever point I feel like there is a dropoff that would give other positions some advantage. I also like drafting from the middle of the pack if I can't get one of those players. People who draft at either end wait an awful long time for their next pick - and have to think about that when they pick two players.
For the record, my list was:
1,2,3,4,8,7,9,6,5,10,13,12,11,14,15
Would love to hear from the other fine players in this league.....

Thanks Greg, having the 1-slot means I can slack off on further analyzing the 1st-rounders 'til the new yr.
