NFBC Mag League Draft Results

Post by Edwards Kings » Fri Dec 21, 2007 4:29 am

Some oberservations in general through 8.

Everyone has at least one CM, except one person. No one has all three CM.

Three teams have no MI yet. The one person who had no CM also does not have a MI through 8. One person has all three MI.

Four teams has at least one C. One person has both C. This person has no OF yet. All other teams have at least one OF.

Five teams have both their closers. One team has no pitchers yet at all.

One team has no P (SP or CL) yet.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

2004 28 109 311

2005 33 108 305

2006 42 117 308 in only 454 at bats.

2007 24 100 266 in career high 545 at bats

He had an off season and still drove in 100 rbi, i think another 40 homer season is on its way with another 300 bavg. Im sure i will own Hafner in a few leagues like always .In my 4 years in the auction format i paid for Hafner three times , missing him last year only because i got BIG PAPPI for 31 and was locked ouy on travis. Eddie, I added the 2007 line for you.

The BA and HR drop are extreme, but he had a huge increase in GB% and a corresponding decrease in H%.

Right now we can only speculate on the reasons for that, but I never saw anything about illness or feeling tired which might help explain such a huge falloff from career numbers.

It may well be that 2006 was the real outlier and in 2008 he comes back to a level between 2004 and 2005. Anyone who pays for 2006 numbers will likely be disappointed.

greg - can we get more rounds posted, maybe a total of 23? :D

it's tougher to see if someone made a 'good' pick without knowing their starting lineup and who they passed on each round. thanks.

Along that same line...Maybe a preview of the magazine's rankings and compare them with the Champs draft?

I'll add more rounds once I have a minute and we can do this after New Year's when the issue goes to press. Sorry, just under a lot of time constraints now.

I'd bet big bucks Hafner never did steroids.. he is country strong. As for his huge dropoff last year, like I said, I watched about 80% of his at-bats on tv... he just looked like he was swinging poorly.. never got his timing down or confidence back... it wasn't due to lacking strength, it was technique. As for Thome, he is a great value in round 9.. especially as a 1B.. as for having a UT player leaving you with bad flexibility, I totally agree with you.. I'm just saying, a 1st-2nd round talent in the 4th round is something to consider. Would I pull the trigger? I dunno.. I hate drafting UT players

Tom and I put in 16-hour days the last two days just to finalize all the pages. 19 years of doing this and it's still a fight to the finish line with each first baseball issue. It's a load.

Yes, cocktail hour has started here now and I'll return to the office at some point to add the rest of this draft. Can't promise it will be today or even before I head to Lambeau on Sunday, but I will do it. I promise!! :D

The NFBC will be in full promotional mode starting next week. It's been a full month of nothing but rankings and ratings and projections for the two of us. Now we get down to business.

Sorry for being out of touch folks. The real me will return soon. :D

Thanks for the update Greg!

Now that football is officially over for me, it's time for 100% baseball. I have some interesting stuff planned for the message boards beginning next week (or maybe this weekend).

Have fun at cocktail hour!

The team drafting 6th who got Pujols and Upton in my opinion had the best 1st-2nd round combo

I think these guys did a real good job drafting.

I'm sure it will look a little different a couple months from now, but I think it's a better than decent barometer of where guys will go upcoming drafts.

I especially like Round 14, actually looks better than Round 10. Lots of very nice players in that round.

The first 23 rounds of this draft are now posted on the first page. That's as far as we'll go from this draft. Thanks to all of the participants for making this draft work so well and for making these picks in mid-December for all to see. The first issue of Fantasy Sports Magazine will be available later this month and early-bird signups will see a copy in the mail then. Enjoy.

I do the best I can, although I still have a lot to learn. I understand why there's not a huge response, nobody wants to give away their hand. Understandable. Especially with $1,250 on the line.

I'm playing 2 sats Winner-Take-Allmost leagues. I can't believe I didn't win last year. Had some growing pains and think I'll do better this year. We'll see. I can't wait to play against you guys. I think it would be fun to be around a bunch of baseball junkies. Although I'm sure I'd probably get a few snickers from atleast a couple of my picks. Crazy Like a Fox chooses Jonny Gomes with the 1st overall pick??

Let me know if you want to get in on a mock draft next week.

[/QUOTE]If you are convinced of your strategy it doesn't matter if you get snickers at your picks. I certainly will get some this year. I'm sure the guys next to me will think I've lost my mind. Hopfully they'll be wrong and not me.

I remember some people at my draft last year laughed when I took Matt Holliday with the 6th pick in the 2nd round, CC Sabathia with the 6th pick in the 6th round, and Tim Lincecum with the 6th pick in the 26th round (I got a lot of "WHO??" responses).. just pick the player you think is the best guy available at that slot and don't worry so much about who is PROJECTED to be the best player at that spot... otherwise you will miss out on some of your guys.
