Without thinking much about it...

Judy reminds me of a "Leave it to Beaver" type kitchen Mom...feminine and a perfect "girly" name.

It also rhymes with Lucy...ala "I Love Lucy"...so a "Lucy/Judy" type with more "meat on her bones"...to get those HR's and RBI's would have to be...

ETHEL!!! (ala Ethel Mertz (Lucy's best friend)...or even "Vivian"...the actresses real name!)

~Lance Nice work!

Now we need to revise the Childs playbook: no more than one Judy and two Ethels per team.

And hilarious.

I had pick 8 (dead center) in NY League 7 and went Crawford/C. Lee/D. Lee. Johan went 1.6 if I recall correctly. The #14 spot went Fielder/Pujols on the turn...scary if Pujols stays healthy.

had pick # 9 in Ny League 9...I was the guy who rolled the dice on Pujols at 1.9 then got Vlad at 2.22 A-Ram at 3.39 and Guillen at 4.52...also picked up C.Jackson and Kotchman as extra insurance against anything happening to Pujols..can also move Guillen to 1B and slide Lugo from MI to SS and use M.Izturis at MI...I know Pujols is a gamble but you don't compete against top competition unless you are willing to take a calcluated risk that can return big rewards

MLBBUG, nice job getting some nice corners and guys you can switch just in case he goes down.Hell if he gives you 100 games you would still be good for the year with those guys.

Thanks for your input Eddiejag. As you said,if I get 2/3 of the season from Pujols I'm still in good shape and if he stays healthy all year, then I've landed a great bargain at the #9 pick.Pujols himself has said he might play his whole career without getting surgery.Roll the dice, get good backups and maybe get lucky for the whole year. That can win a championship!

Poodles just jacked his 5th homer of the spring. If his elbow hurts, it isn't affecting his swing.

Since I took him at 1.15 in my most recent satellite league, here's hoping the power & elbow hold up.

Pujols also stated since the Cards didn't make the playoffs last year, he's had more time to rest his elbow and has changed his off season strengthening/conditioning too. He said the last time he was able to rest the elbow this long was entering the 2004 season and that was quite a season for him.

When the Cards are out of the playoffs in mid July... and Pujols is having a GREAT year, leading the leagues in homers and rbi and batting a solid .305 to boot... and then his elbow hurts a little and management says - Big Al, you know the surgery has to happen... if you go now you can rehab the rest of the summer and over winter and be fully loaded fully recorved next year when our young team has had a chance to grow up some. We're going to hit free agency hard and bring in some pitching, take the rest of summer off, this rest will preserve your career.

Pujols with a tearful apology to all of his fans has to admit to the wisdom of it and promises I will see you next year and I will work hard for all of you redbirds as I seek to recover!!!!!

Then, how does that pick feel? Can you call it 'bad luck' and 'injuries happen' when you know about it in advance?

[/QUOTE]Errr, this was sad news today...

Donny Lucy, ChiSox catcher was optioned to AAA earlier today. Lucy had a cup of coffee with the big league club last fall, but with only a handful of at-bats it has yet to be determined if he's a Judy, an Ethel.. or in fact a Lucy.

For the post saying Pujols will shut it down to rehab to be ready for next season is way off base. I believe they said the surgery his elbow will rerquire is a 12-16 month rehabilitation. So if he went to surgery tommorow than he may be back by the all-star break next year. August this year would put him out till 2010.

So if he went to surgery tommorow than he may be back by the all-star break next year. August this year would put him out till 2010. It's 12-16 months+ for a pitcher, usually widely considered 18 months to be 'back to form' but for a positional player it can be as short as 8 months. Having said all that, I'm pretty sure that if he's out for 8 months or 12 or even 16 months it doesn't change the fact the surgery is no longer optional it's just a matter of 'when' at this point. If he wants to play longer term he'll need to have it done and picking a time when the Cards have nothing to play for is purely logical. Announcing the 'plan' pre-season hurts ticket sales across the board so I'm confident that using baseball logic is more important in this case than reading organizational media releases.

Pujols' own words? If the pain is as great in 2008 as in '07, Pujols has said, he will shut it down rather than try to play through it again.

So, unless an uncurable need for Tommy John surgery suddenly fixes itself he will have it - the question of 'when' will define itself as a combination of pain/discomfort and Cards being hopelessly down and out. I'm predicting July. Why would he play for a sub-500 team in meaningless games in August/September?

Putting down rose-colored glasses is tough. 4th-5th round value if he lasts until mid July.

Hell, I'll even go crazy - and name the date... Pujols will stop playing around July 21 and then the following week while the Cards are in Atlanta (near the home offices of Dr. James Andrews) he'll officially announce the tearful decision after consulting with the TommyJohn expert on July 29.

Mr. Nostradamus, put THAT in your pipe and smoke it.

I think losing a win is up there, as I had Wainwright (who was well on his way) in TWO leagues!
