imagine if toyota allowed the public to beta test their vehicles. and they found "unintended acceleration" amongst other problems. bad press can be a killer.

1. the company is the beta tester

2. the public is potential buyer

with all of the concern about the delay of the drafting software and the faab/backend system, you would think they'd want to minimize concern/confusion by making sure the application could hit the street running. would have calmed a lot of fears. now some posters are MORE concerned after seeing the software.
Obviously, we felt confident enough in rolling out what we had. If the drafts crashed everytime caused your computer to explode and burned your house down -- we wouldn't have put it in front of your eyes.

I guess our definitions of "bad press" are different, but so far I've been pleased by how things are working and what the reaction has been. That doesn't mean that I'm satisfied, and changes won't be made, either.

You can't have programmers doing the final testing, they are to close to the subject matter. You look into any large IT organization and you will find a group of people dedicated to doing nothing but testing. Once they complete their testing, the product is rolled out for Beta testing. Programmers can't test because they wrote the code and they assume what should happen with the code. Programmers are not users, they make assumptions. You can't blame the programmers, they just code based on what someone tells them to do.

Geoff,

I haven't seen any response from you on my primary concern - which is the ridiculously large and useless squares that show the player drafted and the team drafting that player.

It is like you guys have settled on a "style", like big chrome bumpers, and could care less if it actually is functional. Style is nice, but not at the cost of functionality. First and foremost we're there to draft, not to be dazzled by your tech guys' selection of fonts, colors and boxes.

The worst thing about MDC was this same problem, you can't see a full round of picks on the page. I know you can click to another location and see more picks, but then you can't research your next picks while viewing that area.

Please address this. Thanks.

p.s. I think the vertical list for picks was a lot easier to read and follow, too.

are slow drafts that are still going on now going to be switched into the new drafting site? If yes, i hope no data is lost in the switch.

All slow drafts that are running will finish up at MDC.
That's what I was afraid of. Sounds like the response I always got from MDC ... we're aware of it (read: we don't have any intention of changing it).

I am going to try another draft tonight; personally, I had no problems last night but agree, get rid of some of the bells and whistles; the scroll at the top for who is up and who they pick can be smaller IMO; I gave up on the ranking; I'll use my own sheet and look up players I want.

I think we have waited long enough! Are you trying to tell me 3 weeks out eveything will be fixed? Come on the trust factor at this point is zero. Let the top guns in NFBC look at the FAAB program. If you don't your doomed! Your Mock Draft is a joke.

 I trust in the talented tech team that Fanball has, yes.

Would you care to share some of your criticisms of the mock drafting software? I'm going to be talking to the St. Louis office again in a few minutes and would love to give them Walla Walla's insight.
Geoff, having played Fantasy Football at Fanball for the past 4-5 years, I can tell you that the problems that come out of Fanball in regards to technical issues are HUGE and the service has a downright horrible reputation. I actually informed this to both Greg & Tom the minute I heard the news of the fanball merge. I was told at the time STATS was still going to be involved. It appears that is not the case.

I even went as far as to forward forum posts on forum posts of the absolute mess that Fanball has created over the years for their fantasy players - many threatening to sue, leave, call their credit card companies to issue chargebacks, etc.

Worse on top of all of their yearly problems that *never* get solved is the horrible customer support. Keeping members in the dark, always promising "Don't worry guys, it's just around the corner" Not responding to emails for weeks!!!

I guess in all this time that's past, I never really put 2 and 2 together and now it appears we're entrusting the NFBC name into the Fanball technical team - BIG MISTAKE!!!!

And anybody who doubts me.... Think about it, we're 3 weeks from first pitch, and the the heavy hitter users (us) have been begging to test the software and there is nothing there for us to test... We're in trouble...

I wanted to mention one more thing here as I've now read my post above...

- I've kept my football league at Fanball because once the draft has been over, the technical issues on their site have been manageable. Not perfect, but not a deal breaker as the stats are updated, corrected, etc. Also because our league history is there and it's just easier to stay as Fantasy Football is kind of lame and I don't take it that seriously.

- Maybe I'm misunderstanding and we're just talking about the drafting software here. If that's the case, well, there is always MDC to fall back on right? So what do we have to lose. But if we're talking about the entire stat program for the whole year, I remain very concerned trusting the Fanball group...
