Thanks 76erfan! It certainly seems like we have enough interest to fill this league and good candidates to be commish! If we hear from Greg and Fanball that they will host, I bet this thing fills up officially in a heartbeat! I think the draft will be most interesting to say the least!

I took over a team in KJ's other keeper league last year. I'd like to play in this one too -- I'd like a chance to draft a keeper team from scratch.

Totally Agree Jim. I took over a team in a local keeper league 4 years ago and it took me a few years to get it up and going and put my own stamp on it. Drafting from day one a team we can mold into a future dynasty of the NFBC will be awesome!

Who goes in the Top 5 picks and what order? Thats the other thing I would be really excited about it figuring out where we all draft etc....

ok this is what we have so far:

1) Ratbeer

2) Glenneration X

3) Kentucky Reign

4) Whipsaw

5) Winston's Empire

6) 76erfan(possible commish)

7) KJ Duke (possible commish)

8) Jim Stanard

9) Jarobi

10)Round Trippers

11)Ando

12)

13)

14)

15)

I currently run a non keeper league and co-commish a keeper league so I would love to run another one if we decide to do this. Would even consider running one outside of NFBC if the site doesnt support it.

added round trippers to the list. KJ's league is $1000 buy in...it seemed like thats what teams were comfortable with.

Rules we have in the keeper league i run are a little different due to format(h2h vs roto..trading is allowed etc) but maybe we can take pieces from that with pieces from kj's and customize. I am totally cool with the 15 team NFBC format...but there are some good ideas below I think. Just a thought. See below. I co run this league with Scott Martin who does some Classic leagues in Vegas for baseball every year...some of you may know him. Its a smaller money league.but we have been together 8 years with zero turnover and its honestly the best league I have ever been associated with.

Daily Heads

Fantasy Baseball League

POST/PRESEASON

-Roster will be "locked" following the conclusion of the playoffs

-Winning owners may elect to have their earnings applied toward their next owners fee

-Owners may begin to submit team fees to the Commissioner beginning following the end of our playoffs with all payments due January 15 or franchise will be forfeited

-Future new owners will buy intact franchises

-Owners must select 8 players (may include ML players), 2 Exemption A and 2 Exemption B players to protect. Owners must cut down (perform drops) to meet this requirement NO LATER than 11:59 PM Eastern Feb. 15 (see below for instruction regarding Minor League players). FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN A LATE FEE OF $10 (to be added to prize of champion) AND POSSIBLY FORFEITURE OF TEAM AND FEES PAID.

--Exemption Players are defined as:

*Exemption-A players: Any position player under the

total of 550 Major League career at bats or any

pitcher under 180 Major League innings pitched

*Exemption-B players: Any position player under

the total of 1100 Major League career at bats or

any pitcher under 360 Major League innings pitched

-Owners must cut down to a group of up to 6 Minor League players to protect NO LATER than midnight eastern Feb. 15 each year. The same penalties apply as stated above. The final number of protected ML players will determine the number of slots an owner will receive in the maximum 8-round ML Draft (e.g. protect 5 = 3 slots in ML Draft).

-Rosters will again be "locked" until the ML Draft with trading to cease.

TEAMS & SCHEDULE

-Opening Day rosters will include up to 8 Minor League players, 8 Reserve players, and 17 active players: 1 each C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 2-U; 4-OF; 6-P

-Rosters may be expanded to 10 Reserve players beginning August 1

-16 Teams will be divided into 2 conferences of 2 four-team divisions each

*National Conference: North and South divisions

*American Conference: East and West divisions

-Schedule will be unbalanced and weighted toward 1.Division 2.Conference and 3.League play

-Teams will face 3 opponents per week

-Rosters may be adjusted daily

-Playoffs will complete on Sunday prior to end of MLB regular season

ML DRAFT

-Except for protected MLs, no player that meets our definition of a Minor Leaguer may be added to a roster until the Minor League Draft has concluded

-A Minor League Player is defined as "Any player with no more than 130 at bats or any pitcher with no more than 50 innings pitched on a Major League Baseball roster and under contract with a MLB team."

-A Minor League draft of up to 8 rounds will begin at noon eastern on the final Monday of February each year (2010: Feb. 22) via email. A draft schedule will be distributed by the Commissioner. Owners will be assigned a ONE HOUR time slot within which they may make their selection. Times will run daily until completion. First slot beginning noon eastern. Last slot beginning 10 PM eastern. Owners MUST abide by the format as designed by the Commissioner at the start of this draft (organization and clarity are a MUST). Minor League players not listed on the CBS pool may only be selected in this phase.

-Owners must list CORRECT SPELLING and major league affilate of the player

-Owners may NOT drop a protected ML player in order to draft an available ML player.

-Owners may make their selection late but MUST use the last report list to be circulated. Late selection does NOT guarantee player availability.

-Draft order will be 1-16/16-1 (2011: 16-1/1-16)

-Follwing ML Draft, ML players may be carried in Active, Reserve or Minor status

LIVE DRAFT

-A Primary Draft will be live and conducted at 2:00 PM Eastern on the 2nd Saturday of March (NEXT: March 13, 2010) each year and will consist of 13 rounds using a 16-1/1-16 "snake" format

-All owners select 13 players

-Owners are allowed up to 2 minutes to make each selection

-Barring a problem on the end of CBS, the Live Draft will NOT be paused for ANY reason

-In that the ML Draft occurs prior to the Live Draft, ALL unprotected players listed on the CBS data base may be selected

-Owners will draft according to the number of picks they

hold at the time of the Live draft and according to the

means by which CBS allows more/less than the number alotted.

Should an owner complete the Live Draft with an illegal

roster the owner MUST immediately drop the required number

of players to create a legal roster.

-Following final roster cuts the Commissioner will distribute extra draft picks from teams that have more than 13 to teams that have fewer than 13. This will follow the same order as the draft until all teams have 13 total draft slots.

POST LIVE DRAFT

-Owners may perform Add/Drops immediately following the conclusion of the Live Draft. Waivers will be used according to CBS guidelines. Players may not be tagged as Injured until MLB announces status as IR. This usually occurs around opening day.

All Star Home Run Derby Game

-Participation is optional and available to first 8 owners to make $20 Paypal payment once announcement has been made via league email. Game may be adjusted to include two pools should numbers allow.

-Based on MLB Home Run Derby. Random 1-8 order will be drawn to establish draft order with selection of Derby players by owners prior to Derby.

-Owner selections are subject to change should a Derby participant be changed.

-Winner-take-all for $160 pot

SCORING

-Scoring will be Head-to-Head format according to CBS Sportsline rules and based on the number of categories won each period to include:

HITTING

*BA (Batting Average)

*DT (Double + Triple)

*HR (Home Runs)

76erfan- the other keeper league I am in is also a sportsline league. Great time with trades etc... but I agree this isn't that. $1k is good and the NFBC rules also work for me. I think this format will help us all stay consistent and stay close to the NFBC. Who knows we might start something big here!

I agree, but think they will help us figure it out. We have 5+ months till the season starts and the first year will be the easiest because our draft will be very similar to others they already hold.

Good to see Round Trippers on this owner list! I finished 2nd to him in a $325 Slow Draft this year! The rules that were posted very close the the start of this thread are good. I think our draft should be a Slow Draft every year. They are a lot of fun and it's a great way to get to know the guys!

What do you expect entry fee to be, etc. The higher, the better in my opinion.

Thanks for championing this idea.

$1000 is a good # I think because it's high enough to make it interesting, but low enough to fill any empty spots in the future. Great keeper leagues usually have very very little turnover though!

After we get 15 guys who surely want in, we can talk to Greg and the gang!!!

Nice, there appears to be some real excitement & interest out there for this format and some momentum building up for this league. At this rate, we'll fill this league before the World Series is over.

A few quick thoughts after catching up on this thread this morning...

-When I first threw out this idea, I was definately thinking NFBC format, rules, & scoring. With the participants being made up of NFBC players and the preferred back end being here, it only makes sense to utilize the format that we're all familiar with and is readily available to us. I think the rules KJ Duke set up for his NFBC Keeper league should be the basis for this league though I'm open to some tweaking if someone suggests something that can improve upon that and that we can all agree upon.

-$1000 pricepoint give or take works for me. I agree that it needs to be enough to make the work required to participate in a Keeper League worth it, but not too high that it'll create too much turnover year to year if someone feels his keepers aren't really up to snuff or make it too difficult to find replacement owners if there is turnover.

-The fact that we have three volunteers with Keeper League commissioner experience to run or help run this league is a huge benefit. I'd be comfortable with any of the candidates as they all seem passionate about this format and idea. However, my personal first choice is KJ Duke if he's still willing. I think his seven years of participation in the NFBC has created a lot of street cred here which will help push the league and fill openings. I'm also personally aware of how hard he works to fill openings when they arise and how successful he is at doing so.

-Though there are benefits to running the league on CBS or other sites, most notably a higher payout percentage , I think running it outside of the NFBC would create a greater possibility of the league eventually faltering. This obviously is not a given, but I think the higher visibility & profile of the league if ran here along with it being part of something bigger than the league itself would help sustain it.

Greg, your initial concerns about this league were having a strong commissioner, potential year to year turnover, and of course programming.

Well, we have three worthy candidates for commish including KJ who we both know can handle the role.

As far as turnover, those who have shown interest so far are made up of a combination of long time NFBC vets including some real heavyweights, several players with experience in both participating & running Keeper Leagues....and me. Outside of the me part, seems like a pretty good start to a league that can sustain .

That leaves the programming.... ;)

Greg, please let us know if you feel you can make this happen as soon as possible. I'm already finalizing plans for this coming year and I'd like to know as soon as possible if I'm going to be adding this to my agenda. Thanks.

The following is a list of those who've shown interest in this league. I'm sorry I don't know everyone's name. If all I listed is your message board name, please provide your full name to make it easier for Greg and/or Tom to follow up if this league becomes a reality. Whipsaw I wasn't sure if your post was interest or just commentary, please let us know. Also if anyone thinks they shouldn't be on this list, please let us know as well. Thanks everybody.
