Great news. As one who was waiting on this news before signing up, I'll definitely be signing up now. But one other question... Greg, if we sign up now will Fanball hit our credit cards or will that all get done later on after the transition to STATS?
Either way, thanks and congrats on making this happen.

All of that will be done when we finalize the plans for our new home. But people can register now on the fanball site without any worry that their cards will be hit. That will not occur.

Thx. Yup. No signups of any kind are being charged by Fanball for the NFBC. The registration is open to secure your spot in any league you sign up for but no signups are being charged.

2011 NFBC Update: Moving Forward
They always say that last mile of the marathon is the hardest and that's where we're at here!!
Everything is in front of us to get this done soon and there are no more roadblocks in our way. 2011 IS HAPPENING!!!
Plan accordingly and don't think the silence is anything more than me and Tom getting everything done with the legalese to make this happen. It's taking us away from the message boards for a bit, but we'll be on in full force next week, I promise. We're still getting a great number of signups and interest, and again, EVERYTHING is in place for a solid 2011 season and beyond. Thanks for your patience all.
Yes, we will have an official announcement on Friday, Feb. 18th and can move forward with all the news then. Everything is VERY GOOD!! The new web site will be live on Saturday, Feb. 19th.
I will be in Chicago to finalize the draft software, new site, etc. As I stated on another thread, it's possible that we will start the Slow Drafts on Wednesday, Feb. 16th to make sure everything is solid, but a one day delay won't hurt us. Let's try to be prepared everyone and we'll have fun with these.
My email has now changed to . I will have a new work email address next Saturday. Emails delivered to my old email address are still being forwarded to me, so no problems there. But please note my new email address for the next week. Tom's Fanball account is still working through this week: .
Again, all is good and a week from now we'll have plenty to talk about. Thanks for your patience all and remember that even though the Registration page is disabled for now, you can secure a spot in any contest or event by emailing us directly or by waiting until next Saturday to sign up. It's all good and will be even better in another week.

2011 NFBC Update: Moving Forward
Greg,
I understand the need to start the slow drafts ASAP, but some people may need more than a day advance notice. In my case, I'm traveling this Sunday through Wednesday. I can plan to draft while on the road if I know ahead of time, but getting the draft day and the link to the new draft room tested, especially from a hotel is not always easy.
Since this is a slow draft, I'm not too concerned. But the last thing I want is to be the guy that slows it down in the first round.
Will you be notifying everyone by Email when the slow drafts will start? And will there be someone I can call to make my pick, just in case?
Thanks,

Thanks, I totally understand Jeff and right now everyone should plan on starting on Wednesday. Yes, we'll email everyone as soon as we have everything ready to go, but right now it looks like Wednesday is that day. And yes we'll have a contact for emailing us your picks if you need help with that. It could be Tom or me or Geoff, so stay tuned. But we know it might be a slow start to these drafts, but hopefully everything will flow quickly. Thanks and good luck.

2011 NFBC Update: Moving Forward
Will we be able to access the new draft room and make picks via smartphones?
2011 NFBC Update: Moving Forward
the cdm games that i played 20 years hence were boring and not so competitive. and, today they are still the same game with the same problem. everybody can own an albert pujols on their roster and any other player can be owned by different owners in your league or not in your league. the copycat baloney by teams already in front can stymie an owner from making a run by buying players that another team already has on it's roster. again, i don't see the challenge of players being used over and over again by any and all teams. real roto or fantasy isn't set up to become an all star fantasy game and the many cdm games were exactly that. the NFBC/NFFC formats at least for now are safe but i'm an "old 4 by 4 auction style owner that loves trading amongst real live owners not a computer game with no trading involved.
even the NFBC lacks that real comradarie and competition that you would get working within a format that accomplishes every aspect of the baseball general managerial experience. the games we play here are only a fascimile because league's people are unable to enforce a set of rules to keep cheaters in check. good ole american ingenuity at work people to learn how to cheat, scam or scum up a good thing. anywho, my auction experiences have all but dried up and hardly anyone plays real roto baseball.
indeed, the NFBC has auction league's but who cares i can't trade amongst owners therefore it is an incomplete experience. i have relegated my game to this inconsequential format of drafting players' and bidding on free agents. yet, if my team has four guys on the dl it's a crapshoot to perhaps get 2 halfway decent replacements out of 4, therefore mike is frakked. our old rules in private league's gave us a real chance to perhaps gain favor with allowing dl players to be given first option when claiming free agents. and, if you were also lower in the standing that would give you an opportunity to compete some. and, of course after all that you can than possibly make other moves ie; trades to upgrade your roster after you lost 2 or 4 guys for the season to injury.
finally, the real reason for bringing this up friends is this, you take the element of "luck" and toss it in the garbage when you use all the tools available as a general manager starting from the same amount of money to budget your roster with to trading guys in the offseason for your keeper leagues. the real great roto players are guys that manage to bring their teams around most years to be competitive even when they may have had a less than stellar auction/draft. i mean the auction/draft is the foundation for your team, but in real roto it isn't 75% the deal here like the NFBC. however, i'm sure many people will hold fast to this "boring fascimile" league's that all you fantasy writers think is the greatest thing since sliced bread. please, your dreaming i miss some of our old league's who after 15 years starting to legislate against collusion and kick out stupid owners. even my teams competed better as i won a title and finished second a couple of times during the latter part of those private auction leagues.
note: in all honesty, i hope the cdm style games don't reappear again. software issues are one thing but shutting down a bunch of games that have been around for 20 plus years is another. ya think?

mjp,
Not sure of the purpose of your post, but I've played in trading leagues and they generally are less competitive than the NFBC because they allow weak drafters to bail themselves out by taking advantage of even weaker players, or by selling the future of their team. To each his own ... but if you prefer trading leagues, why are you hanging around here and posting rants on the message board of a 100% non-trading league?

The CDM leagues were boring enough to get you to play 20 years straight? I'd hate to see the formats that actually made you stop playing them!

All of the dates and times can be found within each of those pages and you can sign up now with Tom by emailing him at . On the 19th, the Registration page will be live and you can officially sign up on the new site.
But we are still taking registrations for all events, just not online at this point.

I am assuming we are going to draft on Wednesday for the slow drafts? what website? what time do they start? thanks, Jonathan Lindsey
2011 NFBC Update: Moving Forward
not sure of the purpose of the post?.....let me be succinct CDM/FANBALL are not only even close to being considered roto baseball. also, the NFBC comes far closer to the goal of owning a major league franchise, but it still misses the point by a country mile.
let's say you are the general manager of a major league franchise what duties does he have to complete to bring his major league team a chance at winning a division title and beyond? i mean if you are talking baseball let's talk baseball. if you are talking playing a fantasy game that is devoid of all the aspects of managing a real franchise then you are playing what?
cdm games and real bases they don't mix well. the nfbc drafts rosters' and does bidding on guys off of the waiver wire....whoop de doo. and that my friends is not even close to what a major league general manager does during his day to day activities. so, to say that i have no point to my post is shallow and believe me i'm not so good at being shallow. and, playing in shallowland doesn't do me any good. the whole point of this charade is that everybody that joins any of this is playing a game of craps. if you have a little skill and a lot of luck you are welcome. if you have some skills and no luck than you are sunk. many of the big time fantasy writers who play in private draft league's are of a mind that in game draft day strategy is the key to pulling off a good roster and thus a chance at winning. and, that my friends' is really the game we are trying to play.....draft with an edge and pray that your guys don't get hurt because the open waiver wire market might not help you. if i have 4 dl guys all at once maybe i will buy one player to replace one guy in that first week. in our private league's we had the DL waiver wire moves for all owners who had guys on the DL. we added transactions later for which each owner paid a fee to make a transaction for no good reason but to get rid of a bum to pick up a better bum. but, those paid for transactions had to take a backseat to any claims made by DL'd players. oh, we do have a rule hear that you can't claim any player on friday unless he is on the DL i did forget that so let's give credit where credit is do.
regarding your comment about trading league's being less competitive then the NFBC FORMAT is absolutely senseless. do i need to continue? NO! as it is most people here are pretty glib on things because they are all resident experts on everything from toaster ovens to medieval castles. look, any league format can have strong owners and weak owners just because a couple of weak owners might exist in keeper/trade league's is stupid. we had rules in place to placate any attempt at collusion folks and rules to offset the one sided trade that included a dumb owner being duped into giving away his best player for a couple of cheapo prospects. still, men wanted to wear dresses instead of being manly men. so, goodbye trading and goodbye real roto and real bases.
oops, and after this year i am going to ride off into the sunset and just handicap major league teams rather then trying to decipher which player is going to be another JOSE BAUTISTA or GRADY ANDERSON.

mjp, I also don't understand the purpose of your posts on this thread. If you want to argue why a non-trading contest doesn't mirror MLB exactly, then start a new thread within General NFBC Discussion and go at it. This thread is meant to update folks on the progress of the NFBC going forward and that's it. Thankfully I'll have a new thread starting on Friday, so your posts will soon be buried. But again, feel free to poke at the NFBC rules or how it doesn't mirror MLB ownership in another thread and let all your frustrations out. But this isn't the place for this.
And I wish all CDM gamers best of luck in those games still surviving this year and giving all of you another shot at keeping those great games alive. I think that would be great for the entire industry, no matter what this guy says.
MJP, this is fantasy baseball, fantasy. It is not a precursor to you getting a GM job in baseball (and neither is handicapping games), so chill and enjoy it for what it is. Insulting those who compete here does nothing but make you look like an angry buffoon. We know what the game is about even without your insightful rants about how it is not the same as running an MLB franchise.

2011 NFBC Update: Moving Forward
I'm not sure I understand MJP's purpose for his post. It sounds like he just wants to complain. He played CDM for 20 years, and hated it. He doesn't like the NFBC for various reasons. I think if he has a new game or a way to improve things, Greg and Tom will listen and take it into consideration. They are always up to making things better for the players. Sorry, I just don't get the rant.
