Shawn,

Thanks again for taking the time to do this. Best chat/thread of the year on the message boards.

1. Can you name a situation or two regarding playing time, starting rotations, etc that you're very curious to see play out in spring training?

2. Best chance of a comeback season and why? Beltran, G Sizemore, Peavy, Webb.

Hi Shawn,

Your thoughts on where Rafael Soriano fits into your plans or if he does at all.

Thanks

Shawn, Drew Stubbs is 26 and this is his third full year in the league. His free swinging and contact % is a killer to his BA and OBP, but is this correctable for him to get to the next level and become the 20/40 stud he could be?

Shawn,

Do you have a different strategy and/or thoughts regarding closers this year with the perception that there is so much uncertainty with them after the Top 8-10.

Shawn,

I was in main event LV,weekend 2/league 1 with you last yr. You took BJ Upton in 3rd and Zobrist in 4th. How do you think these players will perform this upcoming season?

BJ - will he ever hit over .250?

Zobrist - good for 20 hr?

Also some catcher questions:

J.Buck - any chance of him repeating similar numbers?

Ianetta - will he ever live up to potential?

Thanks - Chris G.

By the way, nice pk on CarGo rd 6 in our league last yr !

Shawn, last year I was in a draft with you where you took Mauer very early in my opinion. Just wondering if you would take a catcher this year in the first 3 rounds.

thanks

I don' think you'll find "Live Chat" in Sun Tzu's Art of War :D

Much respect to Shawn for taking the time to answer these questions. The man is unselfish to a fault...and honest. I don't know why he opens up his playbook and allows us a peek, but he does it...willingly.

Don't call it a comeback question: Which of these players (who disappointed last yr) will have best "comeback" in 2011?

Pablo Sandoval

Ben Zobrist

Adam Lind

Nate McLouth

Most likely to finish the season w/ the most saves?

Aroldis Chapman

Joaquin Benoit

Kenley Jansen

Chris Sale

Your 75/75 strategy is well known, however last yr (at least for the tm you drafted in 1st wk) you certainly abandoned this philosophy by taking Tulo/JRoll/Greinke.

You also had the worst yr you've ever had in Main event. Back to the 75/75 or more likely to try an alternate route again?

Good Luck in AZ !
Always be closing.

Aloha CC....what's your take on the first established closer to implode and who's your favorite candidate to step in as this years Neftali?

Shawn, last pre-season we had a conversation where you mentioned that you were committed to 19 leagues at the time.

I ended up at 14 leagues last year (12 FAAB) and at times felt overwhelmed. I promised myself that I would cut down this year and am presently signed up for or verbally committed to only....

14 leagues. :(

Addiction is a very ugly thing.

What leagues & contests are you playing this year? How many leagues total?

Most importantly, since you play numerous leagues every year and have had tremendous success, are there any tips can you give to those of us also playing multiple leagues on how to better manage our time, be more efficient, and to achieve maximum success in all our leagues since none can take our complete focus?

Hope you're doing well and thanks.

CC,

A lot of knowledgeable people on these boards talk about how drafting in multiple leagues helps them prepare for the Classic.

I can't imagine playing in more than two or three leagues. My hat is off to all you that can manage many more.

So, as part of my preparation, I turn to mock drafts. Right now, the best option to me seems to be Mockdraftcentral and signing up for full or nearly full NFBC mock leagues.

Do you have any better/different ideas for draft practice that doesn't involve joining a multitude of real leagues?

Thanks for your willingness to do this chat. Your generosity, as always, is greatly appreciated.

Robert

Thanks for taking the time to do this live chat.

In your opinion has the level of competition increased in the main event from when it first started?

Have you ever or would you ever use a computer in the live main event to help you pick players. If the answer is no, why not?

Who do you think will be the top 3-5 rookie pitchers to make an impact this year?

Thank you.

Wow, 4 pages of questions and still 3 days until the chat. Greg, you should sell advertising space on this thread.

Shawn, one thing I think you do really well along with other great players, is your ability to manage a pitching staff particularly the back end of the staff. What are some of your keys to doing this effectively? Are there certain types of arms you are looking for later in the draft or on the waiver wire? Thanks.

Shawn,

In a AL only Auction are their any positions that are thin?

Do you recommend doubling up on them?

What are some goals for an Al only draft?

Thanks Bryan

Shawn, if you are my LABR partner again on March 6-7, what do you have planned to bring my blood pressure higher than it was during last year's NL Auction? And looking back, would you really get winning bids for Rickie Weeks, Jose Reyes and Tim Lincecum again?

Would you ever bid $36 again on a pitcher? Not me!!

Okay, a question for the whole audience: Are you of the mindset in single-league auctions that you must bid heavily to land the foundations of your team with top stars and then fill in later? Could you ever see yourself with an auction team of middle-tier potential stars and not spend more than let's say $25 for any single player?

And what's this stuff about being a shill? If you had more shillings I wouldn't have to buy myself so many Corona's!! :D I wish you were more of a shill for the NFBC. We'd be a one-horse town if you were just wearing the white hat. ;) Good luck this year my friend in all of your leagues.

Shawn, I've been thinking of a real hard question for you. Still thinking. OK got it. Is it true Greg got arrested last year in Arizona at the LABR draft by the INS? The story goes he was stumbling along with a Corona in hand screaming Ryan E., Ryan E. I don't need no stinkin Ryan E.! ;)

Is punting any category other than saves a viable strategy in a mixed NFBC style league? If so, what categories do you see as the easiest to punt and still win?

Ok Mr Childs, teach this old dog about 2011.

Where am I threading the needle this year?

Where's the 25 gets me 15, 15 gets me 10, 10 gets me 5 inventory?

Sing me some Country son! Who's your Achey Breaky this year? What's your Cheatin' heart category?

Give me some guys whose dogs just won't hunt!

Help an old pal out okay :D

Shawn,

I've entered my first slow draft. 50 rounds no FAAB. How about a few tips on how to handle this draft vs a league that is 30 rounds with FAAB.

Thanks.

Don't forget to tune in tonight at 7 pm ET for the Shawn Childs Live Chat. I think our man is preparing some of his answers now, so the first 30 minutes should be action packed. I don't think the love scenes come until the second hour!! :D But tune in because this should be a fun time and I have a feeling you'll have plenty of time to ask questions on the spot. Enjoy all.

Pitchers and catchers report today for most MLB teams. That's the official kickoff for MLB teams; a Shawn Childs Live Chat is the NFBC's official kickoff as well. ;)

One other question - Is Stephen Strasberg worth drafting or are the Nationals going to hold him out for the season no matter what he says?
