"WHY I WON'T BE TAKING PUJOLS NO.1". by Brian Walton

He agrees with me! Take Miggy No. 1! Go, Miggy, Go! Sorry, but that's one of the dumbest articles I've ever read. If you think Cabrera will outproduce Pujols because of his lineup or skills or whatever, fine. You're almost certainly wrong, but OK. But the argument that Pujols impending FA is what moves him behind Cabrera is nonsense. [/QUOTE]Spot on Bob.
After reading the 1st 2 sentences of this article I was confused. Here they are:
" It was a bad week for the top two players in our Mastersball projections for 2011. Albert Pujols made a decision to become a free agent this fall, while Miguel Cabrera had his second alcohol-related incident ".
My confusion was from wondering how a guy (who writes about the Cards) actually thinks Albert's impending free agency is MORE cause for concern than Miguel Cabrera's alcoholism.
They say you don't win your league in the 1st rd, but you can lose it! Give me El Hombre w/ 1st pk.
funny exchange from Tigers mgr Jim Leyland on Cabrera:
At one point Saturday, as Leyland was waxing as poetic as he ever gets about how much he loves "this kid," someone asked, "What is it that you love most about Miguel the person?"
"Three-run homers," Leyland quipped. "In the eighth inning. I love that son of a gun."
we all do Jim. we all do

You guys understand that Mr. Walton is an expert, right?
You better be careful what you say about his article, because he just might come over and join your league and show you who is boss!
Go, Miggy, Go!

Well slow drafts start today and I just read this article on Sportsline about Miggy. As somebody who laughed and joked a bit at the start of this thread and predicted he would have one of his best years ever, I now have my doubts.
Nobody can question his talent, but this guy surely has a drinking problem. I think he and the Tigers are going to take their time on this and get this kid the help he needs.
I really hope he can figure it out, because he truly has the world (Tigers) by the tail!
Will he stay in the 1st round? Interesting times!

The problem now is at the team is on notice (twice). This isn't a guy who has one too many beers and blows a .10. We're talking about a guy who was so obliterated he was drinking scotch straight from the bottle in front of a cop.
If the Tigers send him back out there right away, and he does it again and kills somebody or hurts somebody or hurts himself, the Tigers organization is going to get destroyed - definitely in PR (MADD protests at the game, scathing articles, etc) and maybe in litigation. Even if the Tigers are not sincere, they have no choice but to give the appearance that they are taking this matter very seriously. It's CYA time if nothing else. From a PR perspective, they need to show that they are trying to fix this, and that may mean some missed time.

I bet you'd comfortably take Miggy in the 12-hole, Max!
