Hey MtM, I hope you're in touch with our Rhode Island participants - make sure they leave early, have good directions, especially with Deterra driving :o . You know Lowy has to make it back for the 4AM feeding... or he'll have hell to pay

And just like that, the inaugural MtM Classic is over. If ever driving three hours each way for something was worth it (and I can't think of too many things that are  ), this was it. I had a great time as it was both a fun event and a challenging draft with some of the best players as well as coolest guys around. Thanks again for "gently recruiting" me Mikey. ;) I really am glad I was able to be part.

It was great seeing you all last night. Good luck with the rest of your drafts this season and I look forward to seeing some of you again next weekend in Vegas.

This draft was nuts! I have never seen anything like it. Tom had to step in at least twice and hold back Mike the mouth from killing Deterra and on another occasion Ken. M . I really believe Mike needs to go to anger management classes. Then Eddie G almost flipped the table when Deterra took one of his pitchers that he wanted in the 25th rd. (Eddie, 25th rd. Can't be too important?) Of course Lowy had to make his grand entrance showing up like a 1/2 hour late further proving to all that he starves for attention (Ochocinco of fantasy baseball ) . I also believe that's what got Mike heated up in the first place. Then the draft started and it was all downhill from there for Mike. Roy decided to bring ice cream sandwiches for everyone (an obvious ploy to try to soften people up) . Then at one point in the draft I think Michael yelled across the room at jupinka calling him a chump. Steve was speechless . I also had to sit next to Anthony and Magner which was a little bit uncomfortable with them playing footsies and whispering in each others ears all night long. Oh and even with all this craziness going on this draft was easily the hardest draft of the year. Throw out ADP! Look at this draft and that's your new ADP.

BTW. I think everyone is still looking for Deterra??? I told Eddie to look on top of the hotel roof

I'm just interested to watch you try to manage that bench of yours this year.

I put your over/under on pitching points at 22

Just a great, great time...

And yes, Mr Jupinka, I ask that you give this league more effort during the season than you did during the draft...Aybar?

COME ON, MAN...YOU'RE A CHAMPION, ACT LIKE IT!!! :D :D :D

Massotto, I'm on to you. Last night must have been part 1 of your two part NFBC strategy...picking an awful team, and saving the real strategy for the main event. $2500 would be too much for me to throw away, but I guess if it helps get the $100k, then it is worth it!

I knew he had a strategy, just didn't know that punting pitching was a strategy? :o

I hear ya Mike. I would agree that if just looking at Massotto's team today, you'd think he drafted it solely to build false confidence in his leaguemates at the Main Event. I'd even believe that if I wasn't there to witness Massotto taking the full minute for each pick, flipping furiously through his magazines, before finally meekly announcing his pick, broken voice and tears in his eyes. This is a man who cares.

You guys must really feel that Mahwah is Sin City East since we haven't heard any stories about the draft facilitator.

Fantastic draft night and well worth the build up. For all his faults, not including that poor excuse of a team he drafted, Mike Massotto went above and beyond. From the second you entered the draft room is was exactly what the whole NFBC experience was all about. Add to the fact Mikey the Mouth had team jerseys printed up ( at his own expense ) and not one but two trophies set up. Congrats to everybody's pal Glen Lowy for taking down the pre game hardware!
Kudo's to Tom Kessenich and his team of assistants. Any draft Andy Saxton runs is above average. Richard McCormick was hanging stickers and grabbing some info for the Mian Event - a very smart man and a strong player that I must deal with later this afternoon. Great build up to the " assistant draft Facillitator". She was everything she was billed. Beautiful girl and friendly to boot. However, similar to people talking about filming these drafts, I just don't get it. As gorgeous as she was - it was like she was invisible. Nobody was really focused on her as you could hear a pin draft as the table slowly and methodically made the selections. She showed her smarts by calling it a night before round number ten. Ironic, it was about this time the Mouth was done with any hopes of cashing. Strong field and ADP took a beating.
Great working with my partner, Joe Anthony. Even if we had to keep updating Sousa on what player was taken. Geesh, for one of the youngest guys t the table he doesn't hear very well. Great meeting up with the likes of Thelan, Mitlof, Team Permutter, and the legend they call Poopy Tooth. Gillis and Deterra are always an adventure, especially when Big Bad Eddie has a player stolen from him on the drive down. But c'mon Eddie........it was a Rockies arm! ;)
Lowy.......he gets his own short paragraph. Mikey tried to hire Carly Simon to sing "your so vain" for when the suave and debonair Glen walked into the room like he was walking onto a yacht. Glen played the tired card and looked to build his excuse as to why it was not going to be his night. Still, I thought Glen did a good job last night. For all of my kidding with him.......he is a force to be reckoned with and a good guy.
Roy Erickson shows up with ice cream bars and the ugliest pair of blue pants a sixty year old man should ever be allowed to wear. Great spending a night drafting with you pal, you are a true character of the game. Great meeting Mr Fleming for the first time. The Champ, Lindy Hinkelman has raved for a year about the time he spent last year in Vegas getting to meet you last season. I never mind a chance to exchange Gabe Hinkelman stories.
Steve "The Champ" Jupinka...........not bad enough I had to put up with you last night, but now I read that Kenny and I will get the pleasure to do this all over again next weekend out West. Talk about a tough task. Looking forward to the challenge, Champ. Great time last night. Forgive me if I missed anybody, it was a SUPER night and Mike Massotto you hit a home run pal.

Tom "Closter" Zownir made a two hour ride to assist my boy in his auction quest. A great friend - I thank you. Nice meeting up with more NFBC friends Mark Bender, Anson Chan, and Auctioneer and Champ Artie Rastelli.

Ken, great post. You nailed every part of last night right on the head (especially regarding Massotto's draft and Roy's pants :)).

The most interesting thing though for me that you noted was the part about being able to hear a pin drop during the draft itself, something I couldn't help but notice myself last night. For all the hoopla and trashtalk leading up to the draft and the event feel when we got there, once the draft started it was all business. There was no doubt we were in a draft with some very very serious players. Whoever wins this league will have earned it.

Good luck to everyone during the season. The build up to the draft and the draft itself were an absolute blast and now it's time to see who wins this thing. Great job Mikey, you should be very proud today (of the event, not your team of course ;)).

Does anyone have any preseason projections? I know sometimes people use rotolab or similar type of softare. Even though it always has me low, it would be interesting to see projections, now that our draft is over.

If I had to guess, I'd say my pitching points will be low - could use another pitcher or four...

Mike,

I forgot to mention - KICK ASS JOB is putting this altogether! If I could get down the ability to add images, I would post the trophy and shirts - great, great additions to the league.

I think it will fill much quicker next year, now that the first has been completed. You can add me to next year's sign up as soon as you start that list - but let's not get too ahead of ourselves. I have 14 of the best players to BEAT first!

I would suggest though, about Mid to late-April, when you have fallen out of contention, that you begin plans for an ALL DAY event next year - I would love to see NL and AL only auctions added to East Coast. Whatever you talk Greg/Tom into, I look forward to it - awesome time last night!!!!! ;)

Deterra asked her to do something unusual with his bag of apples and she left.

She was very nice. I think a couple others nailed it though, everyone was really into the draft and concentrating more on that...although I'm sure I wasn't the only one who noticed her!

I was hoping the ice cream would give some people a brain freeze. :D :D That one didn't work :o

Ken easy on that sixty thing, Fifty is rough enough, but you will find that out very soon for yourself. ;) But at least I don't have a contest going like you where your waist line is trying to keep up with your age?
