My question is how did this guy (?) stumble into the NFBC Main event? Who spends $1,400 to play fantasy baseball and apparently not do any sort of significant research beforehand? Did he do research and conclude everyone's dead wrong?Clearly the guy knows baseball. How would you even know Grant Green is a player otherwise? What he doesn't know is fantasy. Or depth charts. Based on the looks of his draft, he may not even know the rules.

All he knows is he goes in and picks players he likes and at the end of it he has a team. I can believe that guys like this join up on Yahoo all the time and find out the rules as they play.

So how does he end up ponying up $1450 for the NFBC? There is no question to me that he has to be ridiculously wealthy. If you were a billionaire, what would be the difference between a free Yahoo league and the NFBC? A grand and free are virtually the same amount of money at that point. He figured he'll join up with the one in AC where he can make a vacation out of it and possibly (to his frame of mind) win something tangible.

How did he find the NFBC? Who knows? A friend maybe.

I had a huge issue joining the NFBC again this year until a friend gave me some advice. He told not to approach the NFBC as if I was playing fantasy baseball but to approach it as gambling. No rules, no expectations of fare play and no crying. I'm not in the main event but that league and team draft would pi$$ me off to no end.

Any commissioner of a normal fantasy baseball league with the least bit of stones would disqualify this league and refund that members money and kick him out. Then replace him and redraft the league.

I would not expect that to happen here.

Probably a good thing that you aren't in the main. Greg and Tom do a fantastic job. While the leagues are rarely considered fare, they've been fair since the NFBC’s inception. Good luck in your future fantasy endeavors.

I would not expect that to happen here. This has got to be the most asinine thing I have ever seen posted here and I have seen some pretty incredibly stupid posts. Your definition of "fare" must be that all the leagues you get involved in must go exactly by the script that you provide to the other players or the commissioner must summarily execute the offending owners and get replacements that only do what you want.

Goodbye, good luck, good riddance.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

[/QUOTE]Speaking of "Back to the Future," you missed the Gray's Sports Almanac reference a few posts back:

Took me 20 minutes to realize the first 14 pages of this thread were from 2010!!! Think a new thread could have been started here rather than linking to this one - especially since the one linked to has NOTHING to do with this year's event and is filled with a lot of useless junk.

If you don't want to rehash old posts - skip ahead to Page 14!

I would not expect that to happen here. You refer to yourself in your profile as a federal reserve slave and pretty much only post negative comments. Based upon that and this post I will make a wild guess that the NFBC will not be the first or last place that pisses you off or more importantly do not exactly fit in.

It's all good Paul - but some threads are better off left dead and buried ;)
