Who Is Coming To The 2005 NFBC And Where?

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Feb 07, 2005 11:03 am

We have hit the 200 mark for the NFBC's main event as it's been a crazy day of signups. Did football end or something last night? :D It seems like pitchers and catchers reported for spring training around here!

Let's give it up for the tag team of Reverand Joseph Saporito of Clifton, New Jersey and Reverand Christopher McGowan, our 200th signup of 2005. Joe and Chris will be competing in the NFBC's main event at the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th. The duo competed in New York League 4 last year, and although their Dogs of Doom team finished at the bottom, the divine pair are looking for a much, much better finish this year! Thanks guys for trusting and supporting us again and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Wow, the signups keep coming in today. Let's give it up for our newest member of the growing NFBC family as Brad Simpson of Corona, California has just joined the NFBC's main event. Brad becomes the 102nd member to sign up for the main event at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 19th and the 201st overall. Brad is new to our high-stakes events/contests, but he's the type of die-hard baseball fan we're looking to attract. Thanks for trusting and supporting us, Brad, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Let's welcome our newest members to the growing NFBC family as the tag team of Paul Roberts Jr. and Doug Roberts of Independence, Missouri will be competing in the main event on Saturday, March 20th at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Let's welcome back our 125th team from 2004 as Will Robertson of Sparta, New Jersey has just signed up to compete in the NFBC's main event at the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th. Will's InItToWinIt team struggled badly last year, finishing 14th in New York League 3 and 10th in the New York AL Auction League. Injuries, injuries and injuries, right Will? :D But the beauty of spring is that it's a new year and everyone is 0-0! Thanks once again for your trust and support, Will, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize. Oh, and I'll wait for that AL Auction League signup soon, too!

I'm glad to welcome another new member to the growing NFBC family, although this latest signup isn't new to high-stakes events. Paul LeMarbre of Waukesha, Wisconsin and co-manager Clark Beier competed in our National Fantasy Football Championship in September and finished 9-4 in Chicago League 2, barely missing the playoffs. Paul and Clark will now be drafting in the NFBC's main event at the Embassy Suites Chicago-O'Hare on Saturday, March 19th. Thanks once again for your support and trust, guys, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Thomas Smith and Chris Worstell have been going to Las Vegas for years with college buddies during the first weekend of the NCAA tournament, so when they saw our high-stakes baseball contest was arriving on the same weekend last year, they jumped at the chance to compete. They brought eight buddies to the golf event and were tipping Bloody Mary's well before the 8 a.m. tee time! :D We all had a blast at golf and then the next day Thomas and Chris competed in Las Vegas League 3 of the NFBC's main event. The name of their team -- Injuries-R-Us -- says it all as they finished ninth in the league with 77 points and 135th overall. But the group is returning to Las Vegas again and Thomas and Chris will team up again in the NFBC's main event at the Rio Hotel & Casino. They become team number 105 in Las Vegas and 206 overall. Thanks for your support, guys, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

I've met John Murphy of East Lime, Connecticut at Ron Shandler's Arizona Fall League Symposium several times and I know John is a serious player, as he competed in Tout Wars last year. He was too busy with work to compete in our debut event last year, but he promises to take time out of his busy schedule this year to draft in the NFBC's main event at the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th. He's considering the AL Auction League, too if he can find a co-manager. Anyway, welcome to the growing NFBC family, John, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Let's welcome back our 127th team from 2004 to the 2005 main event as Charlie Gillespie of Prospect, Kentucky is returning to the Embassy Suites Chicago-O'Hare on Saturday, March 19th. Charlie's Mastering The Flow team finished sixth in Chicago League 2 with 87 points, just seven points out of the money and 45th overall. Charlie also competed in our NFFC event in Las Vegas this year and will likely return to Las Vegas in September. We now have 37 teams in Chicago and 208 overall. Thanks for your trust and support, Charlie, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

We're glad to welcome another returning team from 2004, our 128th to the main event. Let's give it up for John Rundle of Pembroke, Massachusetts, who will be returning to the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th for the big event. John's Townies team finished eighth in New York League 1 with 79.5 points and 113th overall. John will be drafting alone again this year and we welcome him back. Thanks for your trust and support, John, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

This next signup is a fun one to announce for a couple of reasons. First of all, he's a fellow Cheesehead who lives down in the southeastern part of the state where I first started my newspaper career. Let's give it up for David Dean of Janesville, Wisconsin, who has just signed up with his wife, Patsy, to compete in the NFBC's main event at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 19th. The Deans become our 106th team in Las Vegas, which means we have seven full leagues and we're starting on that eighth league. David is a serious CDM player who is attending March Madness in Las Vegas with fellow players and has decided to add this contest to his weekend of fun. Thanks much for trusting and supporting us, Dean and Patsy, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize. We're now at 210 signups, leaving us with 90 left.

With 14 full leagues already in the books, we start today with our first signup for our 15th league in the NFBC's main event. We gladly welcome back JT Visco of Monroeville, Pennsylvania, who is in the same partying group of college buddies that Thomas Smith is in! :D JT and Vince Kremer have signed up to compete again in the main event on Saturday, March 19th at the Rio Hotel & Casino. JT's "The Duds" team competed in Las Vegas League 5 last year and struggled to a 10th place finish with 73.5 points. Top 10, JT! Welcome back guys and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

JT and Chris Worstell have also signed up for the NL Auction League on Friday morning, although it's killing both guys to miss the golf event. I already told them it's killing me to miss golf, too, but the 9 a.m. start was needed to get all of these leagues in! :D JT and Chris become the 13th team in the $650 NL Auction League, filling that one. But they are interested in a $1,250 NL Auction League if there's enough interest and 5 of the 13 owners have indicated a desire for a higher-stakes auction league. Let's keep taking NL Auction League signups in Las Vegas and see how this plays out. For now, thanks guys for joining the NL Auction League and best of luck in the hunt for the $3,750 first place prize.

We welcome a new tag team to the growing NFBC family today as Rich Chinnici and Joe Garcia of Marlboro, New Jersey will be joining us at the Rio Hotel & Casino on Friday, March 18th for the AL Auction League ($650 entry fee). We now have eight spots filled for that league with four spots open. Rich and Joe read about our event in Fantasy Sports Magazine and liked the concept so much they wanted to start out in an Auction League. We welcome them aboard and wish them best of luck in the hunt for the $3,500 first place prize.

Sorry for the delays on the announcement of today's signups, but this has not been a normal work day for me. Too much time on the phone with reporters and not enough time to do NFBC work. I apologize, but good thing reporters don't call after work hours.

Let's get back to the business at hand. For the record, Kevin Rogers is switching from Chicago to Las Vegas for the main event, giving us 108 owners in Las Vegas. Kevin is doing the Ultimate Auction League and being in Las Vegas for that made more sense than Chicago. Now all of our owners for that auction league are either in New York or Las Vegas, so it should go smoothly. See you in Las Vegas Kevin.

Let's give it up for our 130th returning member from 2004 as Steve Kraut of Antioch, Illinois will be returning to Chicago to compete in the NFBC's main event on Saturday, March 19th. Steve had to clear his work schedule before signing up, but he's ready to join us for the big event again and ready to contend for the big prize. Steve's Antioch Apocalypse led Chicago League 2 for a good part of July and August, but a slew of injuries down the stretch doomed the Apocalypse as they finished 7th in the league with 86 points and 82nd overall. Steve can detail every injury, but he'd rather look ahead than backwards. Best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize, Steve, and good luck with the injury bug this year.

Let's welcome our newest member to the growing NFBC family as Scott Silberfein of Scarsdale, New York has just signed up for the AL-only Auction League ($650 entry) at the New York Hilton on Friday, March 18th. Scott will be joined by co-manager Gregg David in New York. We now have four owners for that league, leaving us with eight open spots. Our 213th member to join the NFBC's main event is making the longest trek to Chicago to compete as Adam Koplan of San Francisco, California has decided to compete at the Embassy Suites Chicago-O'Hare on Saturday, March 19th. Adam is new to our family of high-stakes events and we welcome him to the Windy City for this event. We now have 38 members in Chicago as we are working on our third league there and 15th overall. Eighty-seven spots left. Thanks for trusting and supporting us, Adam, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

It's time to stop doing interviews about the MLBAM licensing issue and the CDM lawsuit and get back to the business of hand, which is introducing new members. Let's give it up for our 131st returning member from 2004 as the tag team of Scott Renda of Harrison, New York and Dodge Prokovic return to the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th for the main event. Their F-scubba team finished fourth in New York League 2 with 101 points, 27th overall. Great job guys. Thanks for trusting in us again and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Okay now, the New York signups are starting to pick up. Let's give it up for Robert Brendler of Rockville, Maryland, who became our newest member of the growing NFBC family with a pair of signups tonight. Robert became our 69th team to join the NFBC's main event at the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th. Robert is new to our family of high-stakes events and we welcome him and his partner (don't have the name yet) to the fold. Thanks for trusting in us, Robert, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Robert also signed up for the AL Auction League ($1,250 entry fee) in New York on Friday afternoon, March 18th. Defending champion Eddie Gillis is the only other official signup to date for that one, but we're glad Robert has taken up the challenge and I'm sure we'll get 10 more New York signups before Draft Day. Thanks Robert once again and best of luck in the hunt for the $7,000 first place prize in that auction league.

We now have five full leagues in New York and 216 signups overall, leaving us with 84 spots for the 2005 main event. Our 70th signup in New York comes in the form of Robert Coffee of Lorton, Virginia, another new member to the growing NFBC family. Robert and his co-manager will be drafting at the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th. Welcome aboard, Robert, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize. Keep 'em coming and let's finalize these last 84 spots.

I think I recognize the name of this next signup, even though they are new to the growing NFBC family. Let's welcome Chris and Arthur Rastelli Sr. of New City, New York, who will be drafting in the NFBC's main event on Saturday, March 19th at the New York Hilton. It looks like the brother and father of our 2004 NFBC champion, Artie Rastelli, has just joined the fold. They must know if Artie can win $105,000, anyone can do it! :D I love it and thanks for the referral, Artie, although I bet that was an easy sell! We're glad to have the family on board and we wish you best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize, Chris and Arthur. Great to have you, as we are at 217 signups with 83 spots left.

John and Scott become the sixth team in that debut event, which starts at 4 p.m., leaving us with nine spots left. Welcome aboard guys and best of luck in the hunt for the $4,250 first place prize.

It took a little prodding and a nod of approval from his wife, but we've finally convinced Lance Turbes of Burlingame, California to join the NFBC. Lance is set to draft in the NFBC's main event on Saturday, March 19th at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, becoming contestant No. 109 in Las Vegas and No. 218 overall. We now have 82 spots left for the big dance. Lance is new to our family of high-stakes events, but he's not new to the format, having played in the WCOFF the last several years. Thanks for jumping onboard, Lance, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Thanks Greg...the TLC you put into your league is rare these days. Great work!

It's Lance Turbes with a "T"...like LT and LT2...I can be LT3.

See ya in VEGAS!
