Only you could create 20 pages of debate on JOE BLANTON. :D Good luck with that one. Personally, no Joe Blantons on any of my teams this year, but I do have Jamie Moyer on one. Don't ask me why and no, I don't see Jamie's peripherals turning around. ;)

I don't get how you'd start him over Blanton THIS week if you bother to have Joe on your roster to begin with. [/QUOTE]My reasoning was that the Sunday bids came through about the time that I went to a holiday BBQ so I couldn't set my lineup then and I woke up the next morning after ten so I couldn't set it then. So I had to set it when I came home from the BBQ at about 3AM when I was like, "BAH, Blanton, &$@# THAT GUY! ::hiccup:: Here, this guy looks good, put him in, yeah. $%#@in' Blanton. ::hiccup::

Would it be fair to suggest at this point that between these 20 pages and Ricky Nolasco, it is apparent that a higher than expected line drive percentage, EVEN IN A SMALL SAMPLE, might be indicative of crappy pitching and not crappy luck and could be something we number crunchers could use in conjunction with watching games to help identify why results are what they are?

While I am at it, somewhere between pages 2 and 6 it was suggested that part of Blanton's woes were difficulty pitching from the stretch. Chalk it up to anecdotal analysis, but he was just quoted as saying there was a flaw in his stretch delivery that was corrected right before his career high 11-K effort.

Would it be fair to suggest that Blanton's previous difficulty pitching from the stretch was that he was in the stretch against teams besides the Florida Minor League Marlins?

The great Joe "cornbread & chicken" Blanton was available in my online lge.

Todd Z, (from what I recall) seems to be a Blanton defender, is in that lge.

Todd Z (nor ANYBODY else) bothered to spend $1 on the pitching version of Roy Clark.
Always be closing.

But as I explained later in the thread, I am a big believer in 'home field advantage' when it comes to streaming starting pitchers, that is take park effects out of the equation, a pitcher usually performs about 10% better at home than on the road. This results in 2 things:

1. If a pitcher is starting at home in a hitter's park, that advantage is neutralized

2. If a pitcher is on the road in a pitcher's park, yeah, it is better than being in a hitter's park or even neutral, but he is still on the road.

So for me, this means pitchers from Philly, Colorado, Texas and the Chicago White Sox are not my cup of tea when it comes to streaming. I would rather stream someone from San Diego, San Fran, Minnesota, Oakland, etc.

Now add in the on-line league is 12 teams versus the 15-team main event leagues and that lowers Blanton's value even more. I am in fact starting him in a 15-team satellite. I don't wish to take up a valuable roster spot for him in a 12-team league when I lose the 'home field advantage'.

I am a Myers owner who went for Blanton this week - spent $91 when $1 would have got him - could have been worse - I lowered my bid considerably prior to the deadline.

head to head,

Hey, this is rich. we picked 10th in chicago league 4. Remember, you told us after about the 5th rd, you had a similar draft strategy? Still not happy you took Mauer from us (kidding). At least he's given you guys life again! He's on our online championship team so I'm actually cheering for him.

Back to Blanton...
