Campy was my second pick, so I need to rethink things.

my thought process at the 3/4 turn...

throughout day was hoping for r.henderson to fall. didn't make it.

i've been eyeing up kenny williams as a fallback option.

as for my 2nd pick, i wanted to have a strong #1 catcher.

there are 4 top tier catchers IMO. irod and pizza are already gone

so i was debating which of the other two to take.

overall, catcher is a weakass position. on the whole, i only count 13 catchers that are viable options IMO.

didn't want to get shut out.

Fun way to spend the time before the Slow Drafts get going. I certainly could see this type of Sim game becoming a successful online product for baseball and football. Easy to do and fun with each draft likely turning out completely different. I like it.

I have one for Mark as well. You do know you need 1500 innings? ;)

I looked at both Pedro years, but the 2000 is superior IMO (.737 whip is insane) because these picks are not made in a vacuum. I now have the top era and whip seasons for starters and that will help me later in the draft. (I hope!)
Glenn - There are still 300K guys on the free agent list.

still guys that throw 300 innings.

still guys that have 25+ wins.

you pitcher heavy guys will be slowing down in the next 2 rounds,

so i will have to make my stand somewhere.

I do realize i won't be getting 75 pitching points,

but i would settle for 50 :D

now, you do know you need hitters to compete, right?

there's a bunch of teams loading up. hurry, the "plus" guys are going quickly.
Don't forget I do have a hitter, Bonds....and I already regret that pick. I should have grabbed another pitcher, Coombs or Gagne, or one of the other studs that are now off the board. Offense is overrated. ;)

However, it is going to be interesting as we get to the last few rounds when drafters are boxed into corners having to take certain players to fill their pitching quota or fill an offensive position. I'm looking forward to that part of the draft. That's when this game will get real interesting.

I have to say I thought those last four picks where all pretty damn impressive. I would have went with the 2000 Pedro year as was taken as well.

Love the turn as Ken Williams was a guy I would have loved to have fallen and I agree that catcher is weak and I had Roy Camp ranked very high as well.

Also what the career of Lefty O'Doul is a very interesting one as he was a relief pitcher for his first four seasons. Then he returned to the Pacific coast league where he learned to play the outfield and became a great hitter. He did not return until the 1928 season and one season later he had his greatest year in 1929 which was the year selected.

Wow, I feel like my nuts just got crushed. The top two hitters on my board that I really wanted were Helton and O' Doul - both gone immediately before my third pick. I figured Gekko would go for at least one pitcher, but he did not. Instead, he took the next hitter on my board, Campy.

So, I am completely switching gears and taking Mark McGwire 1998 .299 (509 AB) 130-70-147-1. I don't love the pick, but I take an edge in home runs which I suspect will be a very competitive category.

Sorry guys, I deleted the sentence. I don't think it would have mattered, but I agree with the principle you pointed out. Thanks for the pro-McGwire pick feedback. I feel a little better!
