While I know you guys probably haven't thought through every contingency, and I'm unlikely to participate in this, from my experience running a fairly high-stakes private basketball auction, the idea of completely re-bidding all over again if someone has a technical problem has disaster written all over it. What we do in these situations is continuing the bidding, and if someone lost connection, we ask that disconnected-owner if they will bid more than the final bid. If not, the prior bidding stands and you move on. If the disconnected-owner would bid more than the final bid, then the bidding continues between those two individuals only, and we do it in the chat room. And then manually change the outcome. Just an idea to consider, because it will happen and the winning bidder will be none too happy to have to do a complete re-bid. Glenn Schroter was the originator of this idea, so I don't want to sound like I'm smart enough to have thought of this myself.
