Draft

Post by On the DL NY#1 » Mon Mar 22, 2004 1:47 am

Hey guys,

We were team #9 in NYC #1. Got to say, the draft was a great experience. We tried to hit off the scarce positions first, and actually stuck to the plan. Wood vs. Schilling and Pedro was a tough call, but it's tough to go against all those innings Wood pitches. Jeter in the 2nd was likely a reach, but sometimes that's just what you have to do in these leagues. If there's one thing we lack, it's a major power hitter, but we could have a bunch of 20HR guys to help in that area.

All in all, this seems to be one of those teams you look at and wonder where it came from. Few studs, but a lot of producers and balance across the board.

C- Jason LaRue/Damian Miller

Had an absolute blast at the Chicago draft (League #2, Pick #8). Met alot of nice folks, and was impressed with the whole shabang. I was pretty blown away by the early calls on catchers, closers, middle infielders, and fast guys. I opted to NOT follow the trend, and ended up with a team with some ugly holes. Most notable holes as follows...

1. Pretty damn slow. Ichiro and Byrd are my fastest.

2. Jose Mesa as my 2nd closer. Ouch.

3. The mighty Carlos Guillen at SS. Yikes.

On a positive note, I like my Outfield and Pitching staff pretty well.

OF - Ichiro, Byrd, Jenkins, L Walker, Everett, Gibbons

Rotation - Hudson, Mulder, Pettite, Milton, B.Myers, Redding.

In summary, I think I am unfortunately pretty average. But.... if M.Rivera goes down and Tom Gordon takes over as closer, and Ichiro steals about 70 bases, and C Guillen wins the triple crown... then I am the man.

Well Chicago L#1 We had Pick 14. After my Partner got 3 sheets to the wind, our bench took a huge dump. That said:

C - Posada, Mauer

1B - Konerko, Overbay

2B - Alomar

SS - J Reyes

3B - Hinske

MI - D. Jimenez

CI - Burroughs

OF - Bonds, Maggs, Burrell, Erstad, Biggio

UT - L. Matos

SP - Colon, Clement, B. Myers, H. Ramirez, Burnett(?)

RP - Dotel, Hoffmann, Kolb, R. Wagner, B. Donelly, B. Wickman

What do you guys think other than we were a bunch of drunks. How do you think the team looks?

He’s great at dishing it out, but wets his pants and cries to his mom if you flame him back.

sorry screwed up the response to this before...was also in NY4 draft and thought it was an excellent time. I and my co-manager Scott were at the end by the door with 15th pick so we got 2 picks at a time each go-around(Schilling, Delgado and then Oswalt, Garrett Anderson with picks 45-46) We like our team a lot with the exception of steals category. Along with two above, pitching also includes Webb, Harden, Kris Benson, Glavine, Hampton. The first four are studs. Benson, Glavine, Hampton-we'll see. Couldn't believe Manny fell to 14 and Boone went so soon but hey to each his own. Good luck to all. Jeff Goeke

Would love to see more feedback from NY League 4-we were team 15 at the end by the door. Again, great time-the minute time limit separates the men from the girls I think. You had to be prepared. Good luck to all especially our partners at the end of the line team 14. Wanted to know if teams with just 1 owner struggled at all. With 2 guys, we felt like we were hummin' along tracking all that was going on. Our best picks-I thought Harden would be gone when we got 'em. Benson's upside is high and we got em late. Worst pick-2d catcher Matheny-waited too long perhaps for Hammock for example but at least we know Matheny is StL's fill timer. Later, Jeff

Gekko,

I don't care if your team is in the top 20% in your mind. Whom did you draft? I'm more interested in YOUR roster, not your OPINION.

From what I've been reading, however, I shouldn't expect to get a rundown of your draft Saturday.

Ace - Why draft in Chi-Town? You have some off the hook players! How do you get Beltran, Thome, Posada, and V. Wells on the same team? To get Ensburg and Berroa is ALSO nice!

I wish we had that. My team is at the bottom area of page 4.

The Toronto guys ! I was next to you with #5 in NY #4. Yeah you guys ended up with a nice balanced team. I really liked where you got bigbie.

My top 5 were Helton-Kent-Rolen-Crawford-Beckett... then I spent the rest of the draft chasing and reaching and convincing my partner we did well and that a 50% stake would be wise !

Ace...that is the best team I have seen assembled to date. I mean, you still have a couple of quality pitchers with that offense. You are in the running for sure I believe.

Good luck.

Hi Everybody

I was the 13th Pick in NY league 3. I think I'm the first guy from this league to post their roster as of yet. I like my team and it was impossible to get a top 4 starter in my draft because Prior, Pedro, Schlling, Wood were all drafted before it even got to pick 13!! Tell me what you think. I'll give you a list by position rather than the order I drafted in because I don't totally remember.

c= Piazza, Miller (note I have Castro on the bench)

1b= Palmeiro

2nd= Luis Castillo

ss= Jose Valentin

3b= Corey Koskie

OF= Bonds, Magglio, Luis Gonzalez, Dye,

Brian Jordan

1/3= Shea Hillenbrand

ss/2n= Marlon Anderson

Util= Edgar Martinez

Starters= Colon, Miller, Ortiz, Willis, Redding,

Ishii

Closers= Smoltz, Hoffman

Bench= Biddle, Ramon Castro, Randall Simon,

Ken Harvey, Alex Gonzalez(cubs),

Farnsworth

It is funny that you think your team is so good and that there are so many bad teams in your league. Team #2 (and ours team #14) are better. Nice catchers you have on your squad, i'm sure that they will be carrying you as much as A.Sanchez and Chacon will. Feel free to critique my team (#13) as much as you want, because i'm sure (judging by your great physical appearance) you wouldn't have told it to me in person on saturday. good luck in the cellar and thanks for the $1250 donation corky.

By the way, here's my roster from LV league #1, pick 5:

C-R. Hernandez

C-C. Wilson

1B-Helton

2B-M. Giles

3B-Blalock

SS-Lugo

MI-M. Anderson

CI-Olerud

OF-R. Sanders

OF-Encarnacion

OF-Edmonds

OF-Mondesi

OF-Finley

Util-Figgins (My worst pick, but needed steals at the end)

P-K. Wood

P-Nomo

P-Carlos Zambrano

P-M. Redman

P-Ponson

P-Lilly

P-Seo (AJ Burnett and Jose Acevedo on bench)

P-Eric Gagne, Damaso Marte. (Rod Beck on bench)

I'm pretty happy with this team, although I took a chance on whether Marte would get enough saves.
