Good grief...I hate this game sometimes!

Hanley gave me the lead over blowinmudd with his double in the 11th, then Adrian Gonzalez homers to give the free entry back to mudd.

Congrats man, what a pisser!

I don't have access to the final standings since I didn't have a team, so if anyone wants to post those they can. I've asked Fanduel to forward the winner's name, but if someone knows that as well please post that so that we can all congratulate that winner. Thanks all for participating and we'll do this again next Friday with possibly two price options.

The winner of our 2015 NFBC Main Event entry is Bryan Sannito of Manteno, Illinois. Bryan first joined the NFBC in 2011, but skipped two seasons before coming back this year in a $150 Satellite League. He now has a chance to turn $25 into $125,000 as he joins the Main Event for the first time. Well done Bryan.

Joe Anthony finished 2nd and won $100.

We'll do this again next Friday night. Thanks all and good luck.

I actually think it's kinda cool that the winner is someone who may not have joined or had the opportunity to join the Main Event otherwise.

Congrats Bryan. Good luck next season.

Here's a tip for those new to the DFS space.

I realize $25 isn't a huge burden on those playing the NFBC/FanDuel contest, but one of the tricks to the trade is to hedge your bet - especially if you happen to really like your team.

Enter the same team into a 50/50 or double up contest. Here, you only need to be better than half the field to in essence get your money back.

So even if you lose out on the NFBC entry, assuming you finish in the top half of the second contest, it doesn't cost you anything.

The one caveat is in order to take down a tournament, you usually need to hit on a high-risk, high-reward player whereas in order to cash in a 50/50, a more conservative lineup is better.

Good advice from Todd.

What I've learned is to be very sure you choose a pitcher who will get the W as the points from the pitcher can represent almost half your total points.

Those of us (48%) who took Jesse Chavez last night found out the hard way. Even if it's not a QS, the win will push you up the standings a lot.

A W from a pitcher is only 4pts, how do you figure "almost half your total points"? The only negative a pitcher gets is ER, not even a loss. One point for a SO and IP, so taking a pitcher who strikes a lot of guys out and goes deep into games will sometimes garner more points than a pitcher who gets a win.

One pitcher can get almost half your team's points - but that's not a total that will take down a GPP though it can cash in a money contest.

K's and IP are what it's all about. Wins will usually follow.

If you'e in a double up, spending the bucks for the top pitchers is viable if not recommended. if you want to win or cash high in a GPP, it often pays to fade the studs and look for the contrarian cheaper options -- which last night many did with Chavez.

Though I wonder how many got off Stras with the weather.

I tend to find the cheap pitcher, load up my lineup with studs and hope my pitcher does well. Won a modest $60 in the past week spending only a few bucks. I did the same last year, then decided to spend big ($10 and $25 leagues) , and lost it all.

If I recall correctly, the two guys who cashed last night had Garza, the 3rd place guy had Chavez. Another 4 points and he would have finished at least 2nd, maybe higher because a winning pitcher usually stays in longer.

My point is you aren't likely to finish on top when you don't have a winning pitcher. Not saying it doesn't happen but in my experience the guy in 1st at the end of the night almost always has 16+ pitcher points which you don't often see from a losing pitcher. Maybe Alex Wood is an exception this spring...

Perhaps I read your original post wrong DH, but I must say, if pitchers got -4 for a L, then the W would have that much more meaning.

A pitcher that goes 5 innings, gives up 5 ER and only strikes out 3 batters, even with the W will not win you much $.

EDIT: One league I was in today, a team got -.34 from SP B. Morrow. Needless to say, he end up in last place (8379), and actually had a minus for a total score (-1.09). Never seen this before.

I got 21pts from T. Roark and ended up in 635 place, still good for $6 on a $1 bet. The team that won $2000 also had Roark, but had Trout, Bautista and AJ!

No they do not Todd. Unless your SP is throwing a CG SO you have at least a 75% chance the bullpen will blow it, in my case 95% (and I did not just make that stat up  )

I was ecstatic that half the contest took Chavez and almost no one was w/ me on Stras. Once I saw the Nats game was starting at 8 pm and there was no rain in forecast for rest of night knew he was $, esp @ home. My only problem was using JB Suck (seriously how does your tm score 13 runs and you go 0 -5, dick.)

Chavez has pitched very well, but as you alluded to Todd, you hafta do something different to win these tourneys. If you're in w/ everybody else on Chavez and he pitches well, then you better have gotten the hitters rt cuz you ain't got an edge. If he get shelled, you're done.

I knew most would let a lil rain scare'em off Stras, too bad I didn't stick w/ Longo at 3B ! Also nice to see Posey homer 1 night too late

Was watching that Dodgers gm, was so happy for my bro when Hanley doubled, then Satchel Paige had AGonz 0-2 and couldn't close the effing deal...unbelievable.
Always be closing.

Yes. I'm sure Fanduel has to create salaries for the next night's contest as late as possible, so that's when they open it up. We will definitely do a $25 contest and I'm talking with them about a $50 contest. We'll have more details this week.

Sorry that I'm late to the party.I had some login issues.

Thanks for the congrats everyone.

I didnt even know that I won the contest until I woke up for work Saturday morning.

I went to bed knowing the Bulls won and are alive still without Rose. The hawks won in OT with a breakaway by Toews. That was awesome!Oh, yeah I was in 6th place and didn't think I would win because I need some big stats out of Gonzo.

I woke up at 3am with text about Abreu's walk off GRANNY.I started to check the box scores and saw my players stats an thought I might have a shot at second$100.I opened my fan duel ap and it showed I was in first.I hit refresh and nothing changed.I ran over to the computer to triple check and it showed I won.Next a email was sent to me congratulating me from fan duel.So their I was getting ready for work at 3am with no one to call or text.Thats a bummer but man the adrenaline was just pumping through my body. What a great high first thing in the morning.
I've always wanted to try the Main Event but never had the time or $$$.Now I get a shot!
How cool is that? I guy like me gets to go up the best in the industry for $25.I can't wait until 2015.
Thanks NFBC and Fan Duel for the opportunity.

CONGRATS Bryan!! Now that's what this is all about. $25 for a Main Event entry. And now you'll be in the Main Event and playing for $125,000!!!

Bryan also sent a nice Thank You email to Fanduel, which was well appreciated by them as well. This was a great start to this weekly contest. We'll give everyone another shot at this on Friday. Great story Bryan and great way to get into the Main Event. You're the first entrant for 2015!!
