[/qb]
And that is why we should go to daily line-up changes, since that will not happen, we should stick with the ability to change out a DL'd player on Fridays.
Wow. I'm having trouble following that logic. This is a WEEKLY CHANGES game. That's another reason the Friday switches are wrong. Daily moves are for Yahoo leagues. I'd say 98% of us don't have time for that.
I really find it hard to understand how any one can see a rule as "fair" that favors any group of owners over another. A team switching out a DL player has a CLEAR ADVANTAGE over a team who's player is out 5-7 days or so.
This doesn't even take into account the case where a starting pitcher pitches his one scheduled start on Wednesday, maybe goes 6 strong before popping an elbow, and goes on the DL. The owner of that pitcher gets to replace him with another pitcher for the weekend when the DL'ed pitcher wasn't going that weekend in any case. Again, ADVANTAGE to one team over another.

Well this will never become a daily event.
As for the Friday DL rule, nobody knows who is going to get hurt, so everyone has an equal chance of getting helped or hurt.
However, the rule must be tightened so that people can't intentionally start a guy on the DL that they then turn around and swap out.
So pitchers on the DL as of first game on Monday, that are active in a lineup for the week, CANNOT be swapped out.
This change will restore integrity to the rule, and make people abide by the intent and spirit of the rule, instead of taking advantage of the rule.

Rules Changes For 2008?
I always have this weird feeling when 1 person decides what to do about a problem that affects so many people (see George Bush).
Is there any way to have a vote on this?
Why not have all the Main Event members have a vote to decide if we should have the ability to switch out a disabled player within the week?
Seems like the most logical way to deal with this situation.

Player B tweeks a hamstring on Wednesday. The team reports it's a stian, and player B should only miss 5 to 7 days. Owner of player B is stuck with no stats because his guy isn't hurt as bad as player A? That alone makes the rule wrong. Sorry but just because some teams don't put a player immediately on the DL because the injury seriousness isn't known doesn't just "alone makes the rule wrong"!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rich, I think we all agree that injuries aren't fair to any team that sustains them. Injuries can be considered bad luck, I guess. What we tried to do with the Friday DL rule is take some of the luck factor out of the contest by allowing folks who sustain these injuries -- or have players land on the DL Monday night or Tuesday after earlier reports said that player would return that week -- a chance to replace those players with healthy players from their bench. This rule helps in this regard and also makes owners become more diligent with their reserve roster.
Is it perfect? Of course not. Your example shows it helps one team and not another. Good example. There is no way to perfectly help all NFBC teams who have injuries other than to expand the rosters and go to daily transactions and we're not doing either in the next year.
We'll evaluate the DL rules we have in place and decide what is best for the competition at season's end. Thanks for the input.

Rich, life isn't fair either. Bad things happen to good people, that is the way life is. Here, bad things can happen to good players, like Greg pointed out, just plain old bad luck. You accept the risks of the game when you sign up.
All you can ask is that the rules are defined up front and everyone plays by the same rules. Luck has always played a role in this game and it can never be (nor should it be) eliminated, really no different then the game of baseball itself. Watch any game and tell me that luck does not play a part in the game with scoring calls, the weather, the condition of the field, and the gut feelings of managers.

I do understand where you guys are coming from, and I do understand the reasoning behind the rule. I'm just one of the "injuries are part of the game, deal with it crowd". We all know how much planning we put into each week's rosters, and when players go down early in the week, it sucks. I just feel that's part of the game and we shouldn't be making rules to try to fix bad luck.
I guess we'll agree to disagree. But I'd love to see this rule go up for a vote.
..And with that, my rant is over. Once again Greg, thanks for running the BEST fantasy games on the planet. You work here is fantastic. Good luck to everyone this final week. It's been a fun year, in no small part because of the tireless work of our commish!
