Should the Ray bullpen fail miserably or Price not fare so well as a starter...you see no scenario where he closes at some point in the 2009 season?
I know he's the top prospect STARTER...but he sure looked good as a closer last year, and they can protect that arm like they mention with Joba.
~Lance I think Price stays in the rotation. I think he has the stuff to be a starter and I think he'll show it from the outset. I think they have some options if Percival isn't ready so there's no need to put Price back in the pen. [/QUOTE]I think David Price will definitely stay in the roation, and provide good peripherals along with a number of strikeouts depending on the innings. The only problem is, there's going to be so much hype surrounding him, you're going to have to pay too much to get him, combined with his inexperience and a good chance the team will not pitch him over 160 innings, I see Harang (who I see bouncing back) as better value at around the same spot.
Is the hype warranted? A resounding YES. Is it worth paying a 10th round pick on a guy who's logged 14 major league innings and is sure to have his innings limited? IMO, no, no way.
13th or 14th round seems about right. I'm not touching him this year. Of course next year you gotta pay a 6th or 7th rounder to get him but atleast you have more information to work with.

Lance - Padres 20:1 to win the West. Can I take the house side of this bet?
