Manager Jim Leyland opted to go with Anderson's speed and defense in what he figures will be a low-scoring game, and with normal left fielder Carlos Guillen DH'ing to protect him from the turf in Toronto, Marcus Thames and Jeff Larish will be on the bench at the outset of the season.
This is an AL only league. He has no power and not enough at bats to compete in RBI. He drafted a great pitching staff and could get 55+ points in pitching. If he get 30 points by winning average and speed, he might have enough to win the league. He might needs to pass a couple of teams in runs. If he kept Anderson off of a conteders team, he might have prevented a contender from getting a couple points in steals. It might be high, but he shouldn't need any starting pitching or closers.

he has dice-k, lester, burnett and garbage at SP-he can possibly excel at era and ratio by protecting those 3 or he can load up on more garbage SP and excel at wins and K's. It is highly improbable he gets more than 40-44 points from pitching. In an optomistic scenario he gets around 70 points-probably not enough.

"My only point was I'm tired of hearing about how great NYC is. I lived in Pittsburgh last year and my co-manager and I drafted in NYC. We had the great pleasure of sitting next to Scott Simonetti. It didn't bother us one bit about how hammered he got and didn't affect our draft. We finished 2nd in the league. I moved to Tampa in November so we drafted in Orlando this year. I'll be honest I didn't see a difference in the draft from '08-'09. As usual this is typical "ESPN East Coast Basis" at it's best. People think if NYC is involved it's the best. By the way, Ray's Pizza sucks. As always over-rated since it's NYC based."
Was it Ray's pizza... or Famous original Ray's?

The only person who seems to want to continue to make negative comments about the talent level of the owners who draft in Florida (Tampa/Orlando) has never drafted there . Which is strange because there is so much in common with one of the notable Florida residents. The alligator. All mouth and no ears.
I have many friends who draft in Florida, a majority of whom I consider among the best at this event.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

shawn-what about Mosely? My point is that it is difficult to win era, whip,k's, and so. I think he does do well in era and ratio but wins and k's are difficult to finish in top 2 or 3 without more starters than he will have. If he does add more SP, then his era and ratio suffer. Possibly FAAB can assist him.

Sometimes it's for a couple starts, other times it might last 8-10 starts before the wheels come off, and the rare occasion they have a solid Gavin Floyd/Cliff season.
I'm not crowning him the champ. I'm just saying why he did what he did.

Unless I missed the memo Mr Perry won’t be doing much closing in the near term or the remainder of this year. Couple all of the following things together and he’s a “Sell”:
**AT LEAST TWO people in front of him have to get hurt, be ineffective, die, etc…
**Too young
**Too wild
**Too inexperienced
People are going to have to roster him for weeks and weeks b4 they realize this. Think of the opportunity cost of tying up that roster spot. Sorry, don’t see it.
Now, Mr Casilla could be a different question!

Casilla couldn't beat out Zeigler last year and I doubt he gets hurt.
I have to agree with you Wayne. I was down in Orlando in 2008 for the drafts and met alot of nice people and had alot of fun drafting there. I wish I could have made it down there this year but had to settle for New York!
Several complaints on how various drafts go and just because they don't go the way people think does that really mean that the drafts picks were wrong? Who cares who is pick in what round and when? If a person wants to pick a player sooner than later or later than sooner it's their money. It's all subjective and a owner should be allowed to pick who they want and when they want. Trashing owners and leagues serves what purpose?

I think you should be the one that should cut your losses and cut Lyon.
One guy throws a 100 and the other 87. Leyland can't take the whiplash from his neck twisting every time Lyon gives up another bomb.
I would think you would have learned your lesson with Lyon after he got 12 saves by early May a couple of years back and was worthless the rest of the year.
