NFBC Money Leaders Draft On Tuesday, Nov. 10th

Man, watching Mauer play in playoffs, does anyone in baseball look that good at the plate? Maybe its a bit crazy but I think this year with Mauer, its not about the position he plays...he is just that good of a hitter.

What if the new Minnesota stadium has a similar effect on power numbers as Citifield did for the Mets. That is my biggest concern. Also, April in Minnesota should be a little chilly. Although Mauer didn't even play in April last year and he was amazing.

On the flip side, what if the new Twins park has a prevailing right field breeze like Yankee Stadium?

If you're asking why, it is because of a MLB rule which states that anybody taking the field must wear a uniform.

Bobby Cox has taken over Tommy LaSorda's role as the most comical in a uniform.

way back when- many managers were also players. it is also the only major sport where they are on the field at some point in most games.

[/QUOTE]Yup.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I had to look it up.

Connie Mack retired in 1950.

It became a Major League rule in 1957.

I cannot find WHY they made the rule or who was backing it at the time.

I found another source who tells me that money was behind the rule.

Managers, as well as players, get a stipend for being in uniform.

Before the rule was enacted, only Connie Mack and Burt Shotton wore dress clothes. Even then, they would send coaches out to argue a call for them and change pitchers.
