Countdown to the NFBC

Post by Glenneration X » Fri Feb 25, 2011 1:03 pm

21 DAYS 'til Fantasy Football stalwarts such as KOQ, Jules, Matt Bauler, Bill Cleavenger, Billywaz (yes, I still believe you'll be there in 3 weeks Billy ), and other successful multi-sport fantasy players get to officially turn the page on their football seasons.......

.......and see if they can bring the same level of domination to the baseball side of the coin.

Deion says it ain't easy .........

20 DAYS 'til the 7th annual retirement by Walla Walla becomes official. :( Due to this solemn occasion, I did not feel that a mere picture would do justice to the gravity of the event. Therefore, I've posted the one authorized video of our countdown.

Please bow your heads in silence while watching.......

19 DAYS 'til the first round of our first live drafts of 2011. Remember, they say you can't win a league in the first round, but you sure can lose one. So let's do our best to avoid those 1st round busts.........

Of course, not all pitching busts are a bad thing :D ..........

Nice Glenn, but you could have sucked up to the teacher today with a picture of my all-time favorite MLB player: Robin Yount!!! Let's see if you can find a classic photo of ol' No. 19 just for good time's sake. ;)

Be patient my friend, we're not up to that part of our story yet. It's coming. ;)

Still, when the teacher asks, the student answers. Will this do for a classic action photo of good ole No. 19? :D

Just kidding Greg, how's this for a cool shot of Mr. Yount........

Wow, nice one Q. I actually think I'm giving that one out, not receiving. I would say that's from 2004 or 2005, but I'm not even sure. Wow, time flies.

I just ordered that exact Brewers' pinstripe #19 today. I need that for Draft Day. I think RT had one on last year and I loved it. I have jerseys for each day this year, so I'm ready. No more of those stupid company shirts anymore!!! :D

I'm in baseball mode again. Damn, let's do it already.

Good catch Steve. I didn't even see the likeness when I first posted Robin Bobblehead until you pointed it out. It must have been the missing Corona.

18 DAYS 'til we "roll up our sleeves" and get to work on the day to day grind that makes for a successful NFBC fantasy baseball season. Of course as you made sure to point out (and then prove by your finish ), not everyone's cut out for the grind Lance ;) (just playing, hope to see your name show up on the signup page).........

Just remember, this fantasy sport's the marathon, not the sprint..........

(This guy's checking his watch to make sure he gets home on time for the Dan & Jules Hot Tub draft. )

Still, having been raised in Brooklyn, I was regaled with stories of the great Brooklyn Dodgers of old by my father and grandfather.

Jackie, Gil, Newk, Pee Wee, Campy, The Reading Rifle, Oisk......and the Duke.

Jackie, Branch Rickey & the breaking of the color barrier.

Wait 'til Next Year.

The '55 Dodgers and This is Next Year.

Walter O'Malley & a borough cries.

The Boys of Summer.

Willie, Mickey, & the Duke.

They were part of baseball lore, the Golden Age, and Duke was a huge part of the legend.

The Duke wore #4 and that doesn't work with how many days are left in this Countdown. Screw the countdown.

RIP Duke, you were one of the greatest.

Thanks again for the photo trip down memory lane Glenn. 'The Duke' was my baseball hero growing up. Odd for a Bronx kid being a Dodger fan, it must have been that my television antenna got clearer reception on WOR than WPIX? On the other hand, how could a kid not like a team that had someone named Pee Wee on it ?

By the way, I had to look up the Reading Rifle. You shouda just said 'Da Skoonj'! For a second I thought you left Furillo off of your list. :D

P.S. That last shot was great. The 4 great NY centerfielders (Including Joe D). Was that at a Yankee Old Timers Game? I vaguely remember watching it.

And a tip of my cap to you Duke............................................

Only 17 DAYS left to prep before the live draft season begins........

........whether you trust in "Saber"metrics.........

........or just good old fashioned Scouting.

I like to study both and have been prepping so much, my head's beginning to spin!!!!

Great thread Glenn. I thought maybe today would be the last guy that will ever win 30 (actually 31) games.

Just be happy that I didn't go with my first choice for a Sabes pic wearing jersey # 17.

Only 16 DAYS left 'til some of us get our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and even 8th  chance at greatness.......

So don't just sit there, get to work.......

.....stop lounging around and begin prepping.......

.....and quit wasting your god-given talent doing other than what you should be doing.

Because when all is said and done, you don't want to look back and wonder at what could have been :( ........

Only 15 DAYS left 'til a fresh season of NFBC rivalries begins anew. Will we see Gekko vs. Fandango? Childs vs. no-you-won't? Max the Mormon vs. Mikey the Mouth? Chest Rockwell vs. that Yahoo kid? Doughy vs. the Mgr of the $16 All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast Buffet (sorry, MLBC-1 inside joke :D )? mr A (and the entire NFBC community) vs. mjp? Walla vs. Shandler? Oh wait, neither of those two will be there.......

Either way, in 15 days we'll gather around tables of 15 and rivals old and new will collide once again.........

Only 14 DAYS 'til we invade Vegas & AC for a little Poker, a little Blackjack, a little Craps, a little March Madness sports betting, and a whole lotta NFBC drafting!!! Like Pete, I believe there's nothing wrong with a small wager or two.

Pete's calling his book right now betting on GlennX to win the Overall :D .........

13 DAYS 'til we see if some breaks fall our way in our drafts and in-season results. Don't count on it though, in the luck/skill argument this sport's more about skill. Whatever you do, don't complain if luck isn't on your side this season........

Because always remember, "There's no crying in Baseball!".......
