I've just decided to give everyone a better timetable and shoot for Monday afternoon and go from there. Everyone plan accordingly and we'll do all we can to hit this timetable.

Tomorrow is a big day for IT to receive all of our data and get that into the new web site. It's going to be tough to coordinate all of that, so let us finish up on the draft room tonight with a few changes and we can shoot for Monday as the start date.

I know we are getting late into February to start these Slow Drafts, but if everyone is committed to being ready and they know Monday is the start date I think we can make this all work. Again, I'm sorry we're not there yet but we're very close and both draft rooms (Flash and HTML) are working well. We just need a couple of more enhancements on each side or we'll have troubles out of the gate.

I hope everyone can have a great weekend and start with us next week. In less than a week all of the data should be on the new site, Registrations live, Slow Drafts and Satellite League drafts rolling and life back to semi-normal again. Thanks for your patience.

We should have our special announcement on the rest of the NFBC tomorrow as well. Hopefully that will explain a few things. Thanks. Greg,

Based on the length of some Slow Drafts already completed, I think it’s very reasonable to think that 1 or more of these drafts will not be completed before the Opening Day (41 days from today, 37 from Monday). Especially considering people will be traveling for live drafts and taking spring break vacations. I hope they all go fast, but past precedent suggest otherwise.

I know you don’t want to talk about that possibility, but maybe you should consider setting some rules in case it does happen. Remember, we are not just talking about individual leagues, there is an overall contest to consider.

I would rather hear a final statement about these leagues before they start instead of “let’s just see how they play out” and make a decision then.
Definitely agree. I personally will soon be out of town for 2 weeks and will have sporadic access. I'm hoping I will be able to make my picks via phone. If not I'll be leaning on Geoff heavily for many of my picks. I signed up a month ago and expected to be finished with the draft by the time I left town. Turns out we'll just be starting. Not pointing fingers here, but a set in stone game plan/ruling should be established now to prevent future chaos.

Yeah, I'll take the blame for overpromising here. Not purposely misleading, but hopefully promising that everything could get done in time. I thought I could find an alternative site to get these going earlier and that fell through. When it did, we were legally limited to what I thought would be Monday the 14th and then later to the 18th. I thought we could get them set up and ready to go just before that deadline and we weren't able to do that.

I'm the bad guy for thinking we could get this done. It's on me. Now, if we really can't get these leagues done in the next 35 to 42 days, then yes, we all have a problem. We're shooting for a solid product by early next week and hopefully it will be the start of a great season. If this takes away from that, then it's my fault. I thought we could get this done.
One possible suggestion, terminate the overall aspect of the slow drafts. Use the extra $375 per league for league prizes. Just a suggestion

It is what it is; patience is a virtue. I do know I will be in Atlantic City the first weekend. I will be drafting the Hot Tub League beginning 3/7 (I hope); also in Slow Draft League #8; I was in a slow draft last year that took over 40 days to complete; It would be nice if all 15 owners in a particular league could commit to 2-3 hours on a few nights.

We could set these up in the League Forums, but if news like Miggy Cabrera gets out after we've posted picks on the boards and before we've done them online it could get legally dicey. I would be concerned about that.

Yes, we realize that we will have to be available to help with picks in all of these leagues. The time schedule has changed dramatically since everyone signed up, but I will be available to help make picks throughout the next four weeks. You won't be able to make picks via cell phones, but all picks will be emailed to owners and we'll be ready to help when we can. Stay tuned for more details there, but Scott is right that we need to be ready to help with picks.

Thanks for the update Greg. The mrs is out of town with the kids this weekend, so this is when I make my move to get all my prep done. If someone drops out of a slow draft, drop me a line and maybe I can help.

Didn't realize slow drafts were good Auction preps.
last year at this time, i already had poured in hundreds of hours and had my baseline projections done. as of right now, i've done about 10 hours of prep and only have "rough" projections done for about 100 players.

i will have a better idea on where i stand after this weekend and if that turns into more/less leagues.
Mark, I know you don't take bets but I would bet just about anything that somehow, some way you will hve a team from the first weekend. Either online league or by someone else drafting for you, there's no way you pass this up. I'm not purposely antagonizing you, it benefits all of us if you don't! If history is ANY indication, I have learned to never count you out, Mr. Favre! 100% out my A$$!

I am confused, when my kids had their Confirmation or First Communion, I knew months in advance when it was. You didn't know when you signed up for the 1st weekend?

with the season i had last year in the nfbc, the low interest rate, and the free 5 year 60,000 mile warranty, it was enough to take the jump. ordered it in late december. just arrived yesterday. good stuff

Alright... seems everybody has voiced their frustration and we are ready to move on early next week... We have no doubt Greg and the team are working AS HARD AS POSSIBLE to get this going and it will.

Just think what you will feel like when you make that 1st Round pick to start building your team..... All worries will fall to the way side baby! Drafting starts soon....

Have a good weekend and be ready to dominate early next week!

Greg Ambrosius

I wish I had better news tonight, but we just have to push the start time for all 10 Slow Draft leagues to Monday, Feb. 21st. I hate to keep promising a start date and then not delivering, but legally and technically we need to wait until tomorrow and then it doesn't make sense to try to start these over the weekend.

------------------------

Just curious- if we were going to run these during the weekend why can't we start during the weekend. Just asking...

I think we would all rather start Today or Saturday rather than waiting for Monday. If the software crashes over the weekend we would have no problem waiting for IT to return to work on Monday. To me it is better to try to start with opening day and the ME approaching very fast.
Sure, I have no problem with this question. The draft software isn't quite up to par yet and it needs a few things addressed before we let everyone draft or we'll have a bad start. We don't want that at all. I think we'll all be better off by letting us perfect the two applications (Flash and HTML) over the weekend. I was pushing this to go live because the early tests went so well and so it's on me. But it's not completely ready yet and I give STATS credit for testing this further and really making sure the bugs are out. That needs all of us working over the weekend.

Secondly, today is a big, big, busy day for the IT department. If all goes well, we'll have a data transfer that will be massive. If we want to get everything rolling by early next week we need to also concentrate our time on the data coming today. So stay tuned about that and hopefully you'll understand why we've delayed this after our special announcement. Thanks for asking.
