Rule Changes For 2006 NFBC
the days of faxing in players moves on a monday and then waiting for the standings to come via mail on friday for the past week are long gone. If people are more comfortable with that scenario then so be it. Greg is trying to make changes to a contest that is relevant to the way we're retrieving information these days. The status of players and their stats are at our fingertips night/day and across the globe. A player gets put on the DL tuesday.. why on earth cant we make a DL change on wednesday or thursday or friday ?? This information is also in newspapers all over in the transaction section. Plus I think STATS has a call in # for moves too. Do I have an advantage over the teams that have to walk 5 miles to the library to log on to their team once or twice a week ? Maybe, but it'd be minimal at best. But why should I be penalized for an unlucky injury if I've strategically prepared for it ? The contest is just trying to keep up with the pace of information that 95% of us are used to and minimize the luck/unluck quotient.

your too much walla, lets not be so cathartic..250 people are not going to give up on these contests because of a new rule that allows us to get an injured player out of our line up 3 days sooner than normal....i'm done on the topic, greg do whatever you believe the majority wants..i'm fine with either.

You may be right. But for me, I have a soft spot for the past. If the contest is going to go forward without any links to the past I'll be watching from the bench. I guess my time has passed. Good luck to the new breed.

Can Greg explain a few of the questions that today's post have raised.
1. Are we talking about being able to replace a DLed play at any time during the week or on a specific day?
2. Does this apply equally to both position players and pitchers?
3. In order to bench a diabled position player, can we make multiple moves? As an example, assume I have Tracy (1B/3B/OF) in the OF. Clark (my 1B) goes on the DL. My bench consists of Lofton (OF). Can I move Tracy to 1B, Lofton to OF and Clark to Bench.
I personally would prefer keeping this option as it is right now even though twice this season I have benched a player fearing he may miss several starts in the week only to find him playing. This option would have allowed my to play him knowing I could replace him if he went on the DL.
As much as people don't want twice weekly move, I wonder how they would feel if these moves were limited to position players and not allowed for pitchers. This would be a less restrictive variation of what Greg is suggesting.

Here's a solution. The Old 10/6 rule. Move players in and out of your lineup anytime you like (Of course your roster must be correct[23 positional hitters and 9/10 pitchers];>) However, Pitchers must stay in for 10 days and hitters for 6 days before they can be replaced, unless they go on the DL in which case any player on your reserves may replace him.
Also, the player replaced and now on the Bench cannot go in again for 10/6 days, unless replacing an active player that is DL'd. Daily deadline for moves 5 minutes before first game.
Shoudn't be a problem for stats to program it. FABB runs once a week only.

I have not read all of the posts... To many to read and I get confused pretty easy
I think the hitters and pitchers MUST be the same when it comes to DL's or reserves. If we can DL a hitter anytime, we can DL a pitcher anytime, if we can make a move mid week hitter than same for pitcher.
Part of my strategy is playing 2x starters, it would be 100% unfair if we changed the rules and not allowed players to maximize the way they play.
After reading a few of the ideas, I vote to keep the moves as they are today.
I really cant believe folks are scared about having a utl. pitcher/hitter, but want to throw in all of this BS about mid week moves, what days, no moves on Friday, only moves between 4pm and 11pm, full moon, etc, etc...crazy.
Good luck to all the rest of the way!

Ok .. I started to read more of the postings ...
Injuries are part of the game. We should have to just deal with it. If your player goes down on Monday, just bad luck. Every team is going to have a few issues during the year. Just dont draft players who get hurt ... or trade them to anoyther team before they get hurt (crap, no trades).

SlackerDan I really don't understand anyone being against this -- if a guy goes on the DL you can replace him in your lineup -- OK, I can understand Walla being against it since he's against everything that has changed since 1953 - but other than him.
Slacker - the objective is to try to draft and field the best possible team, not be lucky. You're already at a disadvantage with the injury, getting a few days back is a small consoliation that should be allowed.

there is one thing that will always ring true...given a choice, people will never agree on anything...happens in every facet of life, unless the decision is up to one person...greg, no matter what you decide some people will be happy and some will not...just decide and move on.

2. Yes, pitchers and hitters.
3. Yes. That's what having versatile players on your reserve roster is for.
These aren't drastic changes and might affect you only once or twice a year, but it does allow you to stay more involved with your team and get some production out of a spot that unfortunately was getting you zero points because of an early week injury or the report of an old injury.

Greg, I'm ok either way, and its a small sample, but ...
- 4 out of 5 (including me) prefer anytime replacement
- 1 out of 5 is ok with it but indifferent between that and Friday
- none are against

Let me be the first to threaten to quit if the rules aren't changed to allow twice weekly DL moves. That makes 1 quit with change and 1 quit without change for a net loss of 0 whichever way Greg goes.

My turn, I will be back regardless of whatever rule changes, I think I am flexible and have a lot of free time on my hands, since I work from home. I prefer weekly lineups w/changes for DL'd players anytime. OK, w/innings pitched minimums and OK, w/whatever the other rule change was. I do not think there was any discussion on it since page 1. Every year there will always be some type of change needed, this is what makes the league better and more enjoyable for most. I think you have enough feedback to make a decision and stick to it.

Ken, "threaten to quit" Its not quitting if you haven't signed up in the first place. Greg, wanted feed back and I gave it. I would never expect Greg to decide on what rules to used based on my choices. I just pointed out that I wouldn't sign up for a contest if I didn't think I had the time to do it. If the rules change I won't. No big deal. The contest will go on and I'll save my money.

After seeing how tough the hurricane season has been, I have a feeling this is going to be a long, tough winter. Ken and John, you're both in the north, so you'll need a trip to Vegas in March as badly as I will. So make your reservations now and I'll see you at the Stardust for auction leagues on March 17th (hey, isn't that St. Patty's Day?) and for the main event on March 18th. If you both don't come I'll personally come to your places and pull out your shrubs or something worse!
John is right. I did ask for feedback and his feedback was that he didn't want to play in a contest with more regular lineup changes than we currently have. His reasoning makes sense. Ken also gave feedback that he'd like daily changes, but would settle for twice-weekly moves if it were offered. I settled on allowing one extra day per week (Friday) to remove a player who was officially on the DL with a player from your reserve roster.
What some people haven't realized is that for whatever reason some owners may have missed the fact that one of their active players was on the DL on Monday when they set their starting lineup and this rule now gives them a chance to get a few days of production out of that spot. But again, only if they have a replacement on their reserve roster. I've had several people e-mail me who say they like this addition as it will make everyone more active with getting strong players on their reserve rosters.
So I've heard the feedback and thank you. We will crawl with this new addition and see if this small change helps or hurts the contest. I'm willing to say it will be a small help. And in time, who knows where it will lead us.
I'm an old-timer when it comes to Rotisserie Baseball, so I understand how change can affect everyone differently. I think we've handled the new rules proposals professionally and we're close to finalizing our plans for 2006. Now I just need to finalize whether we're doing this year's events in three or four cities.
Thanks everyone and we'll start taking signups in 8 more days (9 if there's a divisional playoff). And if Ken Bayes isn't the first one to sign up followed by Walla Walla, look out shrubs!!!

Rule Changes For 2006 NFBC
Hi,
I have sat down and read all 7 pages of this thread.
I strongly agree with the idea of DL moves only during the week. 2x weekly moves means lots of 'streaming' and unlike pplayers now who have to take good with the bad, this makes for lots of micro managing.
Personally, I think you should be able to move a DL player to your bench ANY day of the week. I had tons of injuries this year (sheets, nomar, rolen, etc.. etc..). This makes a ton of sense to remove a bit of the bad luck that injuries create.
Why is only Mon-Thurs being considered? I vote for DL every day of the week as officially recorded by the MLB to STATS!

Adding up Message Board posts isn't a scientific formula, trust me on that. I have nothing against the daily setup for DL players, but right now we'll crawl before we walk. Let's introduce the concept in 2006 and move forward once people understand the setup. If people can see how this makes the contest better, then MAYBE we can take the next step in 2007.

Let's introduce the concept in 2006 and move forward once people understand the setup. If people can see how this makes the contest better, then MAYBE we can take the next step in 2007.

Rule Changes For 2006 NFBC
I don't think I have read all 7 pages and I may have missed it but the DL change rule should also have an impact on how the rosters are made up as some players may want to have a more well rounded bench so they can take advatage of the DL rule versus having a bunch of pitchers parked on the roster or a bunch of hitters from a certain position. It should be interesting as the DL rule will be of no help if you can't fill that position from your existing bench.

Rule Changes For 2006 NFBC
I have no problem with the proposed DL change. However, remember the quote that goes "Beware of what you wish for because you may get it".
My guess is that by week 4, there will be a DL move made by a team on Friday (before the cutoff but very near it) that STATS does not get input in time and teams will complain they they could not make a change.

Mike, STATS gets a DL update from Major League Baseball once a day and you are correct it is possible that someone will read on an industry web site on Thursday that a player is going on the DL but he won't be listed on the DL in our contest until after Friday's games. There will be lapses before the official placing on the DL takes effect and that's no different than what happens with minor-leaguers getting called up on Sundays before our FAAB deadlines. We'll work this the same way: We'll likely make a Friday morning deadline (noon or earlier) for when players can be added to the DL and that will be the cutoff so that owners don't have to keep watching every minute. It will be run the same as FAAB on Sundays, where we have a one-hour cutoff time when players can be added to the free agent list before bids are due.
Again, this rule is being instituted to catch players who go on the DL early in the week and even for those owners who may have accidentally left a DL'd player in their starting lineup. But this only works if you have a player on your reserve roster who can fill that position (hitter or pitcher). In some cases this will work perfectly, and I'm sure in some cases the player won't officially be listed on our DL until after the Friday deadline. Then you take the zeros just like you would have if the new procedure hadn't been in place.
It can work and everyone will have to understand that we're relying on the official DL list from Major League Baseball before that player is added to the NFBC's DL list.
