Which begs the question, if having little enough faith in your first round draft choice to have to cover him with second and third round picks, is selecting that first rounder a good idea?

Upside baby!

And you should see the sad state of MI on some of the other teams in the league. If things go poorly for them, they'll be taking zeros or worse in those positions by mid season.

Hey, SS in each of my first 3 picks isn't a philosophy. I did nothing like that in my earlier DCs. It's something I've wanted to try out. My plan, actually, was to take Hanley at 8 but he went at 6 so I had to either abandon the entire strategy or take Tulo. The thinking was that Hanley would gain 3B eligibility so that I could roster my first FOUR picks at 3B,SS,MI and DH. But I got snaked.

It was a gimmick team, I admit that.

Upside? SS/MI and another at DH is upside? Maybe try your gimmicks in a Yahoo league not one where you're going after a $20K grand prize.

One entry in hundreds (thousands?) will win $20K. I'm after a cash in a cheap DC league that started in December. Highly doubt anyone drafting before Feb 1st will finish top 10 overall. These are like mock drafts.

Hell, my team name is Mock Lobster for Pete's sake.

By upside I refer to Tulo specifically. If he's healthy, truly healthy all season, he will be a monster. What does it matter that he's at DH? Could be Papi there instead. Fine, put Tulo at SS. I've got Desmond at DH. Gotta put someone there. How many people will get 20/20 with 80/80/.280 from their DH?

That's the upside I speak of. The downside of taking Tulo with your first pick and not backing him up til much later has been well documented for the past several years, hasn't it?

Amazing to me how when someone does not draft at the pace that is sufficient to your liking, you immediately inundate the boards with posts of complaint and displeasure.

But when someone questions your logic in regards to roster construction and gimmicks, you've got nothing but every excuse in the book.

If you really believe that it is doubtful that no one finishes in the Top 10 overall that drafts before Feb. 1, you should watch the movie Rounders. You're THAT guy, brother.

No problem backing him up; but surely, starting a draft with 3 SS? I have never seen it in all my years of playing and for probably a good reason; smart players don't make idiotic decisions such as this one. But hey, you're right, it is your $150 to piss away.

Good Luck and please join one of my leagues.

Dead, I was in your DC1 where you tested SB / Pitching strategy. After a few drafts which of these strategies produced your best team?

3 of top 5 DC teams were drafted pre March in 2013. Same in 2012.

Rarely do I have a point but in 2013 and 2012 3/5 pre Feb.

5 of the top 10 were pre-Feb 1st last year. God forbid you spend the prerequisite 3 minutes to look that information up. It's 3 clicks away. So much convenient for you to throw and pile of shit against the wall and see what sticks.....kinda like drafting 3 SS's in the first 3 rounds!

One could take an ADP list and an Excel spreadsheet and test 100 different gimmick teams to see if any would be successful without risking $150 on it in a real draft.

Thoughts?
Just drafting thoughts....

WI stands for players being drafted for what they is. Drafters wouldn't mind a likely performance from last year.
If noticing, most of the first round, or stable players are WI

WW stands for what players were. Drafters are looking to get something from their past, more so than last year's result...

WC stands for what could be. Drafters are looking more towards the future, believing that a player will exceed any year he's had so far....

Some of these players can fit two, maybe even all three categories. Just stuff.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
