One thing Dave Clum and I do when we are in Vegas is to run over the the Sports Book at Caesars to look at some of the betting lines on baseball for the upcoming season. I found the sheets I got this year. A couple of numbers:
2017 Most Regular Season Home Runs - Chris Davis, Nolan Arenado, Kris Bryant and Nelson Cruz were all 8/1. The favorite? Giancarlo Stanton at 7/1. Sometimes they know what they are doing. Sometimes not. Aaron Judge was 150/1...probably won't be that next year. Other notables...JD Martinez 75/1. Kris Davis 35/1. Joey Gallo 200/1.
Favorites to win their divisions?
Astros 11/10
Indians 1/5
Red Sox 2/3
Dodgers 4/9
Cubs 1/6
Nationals 5/8
Clean Sweep.
Over/under's on wins (OU/W):
Pretty close on Boston (92/93), Miami (76/77), St. Louis (84.5/83) and Angels (79/80).
Not so much San Francisco (88/64), Arizona (77.5/93), Detroit (83/64), Mets (88.5/70), and Brewers (71/86).
Anyway...kind of fun to see what Vegas knows in March...

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
