True, but he was pitched around last year and had a crummy lineup around him, what's new? Bottom line, his numbers are first round. C'mon. With the knowledge everyone has regarding that elbow, is it worth taking a chance in losing him for the whole year or a major part of it because he could provide some value at that spot? And this is coming from a risk freak.

I've said it many times. He should not be in the 1st round. It's obvious. Why? Because a 1st rounder goes down for year, and you're chances of winning your league are probably 15-1. Why would anyone take that chance?

Even if you're lucky enough for Pujols to stay healthy, how much better will he be than Utley, Cabrera, Holliday? I'm sure a little better but is it worth the risk?

Doughboys, you're supposed to be the voice of reason. Get back on track.
Albert Pujols is different than most players with the press. He'll actually up play an injury, rather than downplay it like 99% of all players. He always has. From his knee, to his oblique, to his shoulder, and now elbow. The only thing that has changed is the timing, he usually says these things during the season which doesen't effect a draft. The thing that should be focused on through his statements of health is that he has never had less than 525 ab's.

Now, lets take your boy, Soriano. You took him in the first round. He had a bad quad injury last year. He came back with it still gimpy, looking more like Carlos Beltran, hit home runs but virtually stopped running. When he showed up to camp this year, Piniella said that he would go 75% during spring training. When asked about stealing bases, Soriano said that he didn't know, that he would see how the leg feels.

To me, Soriano's story raises a lot more red flags than a paragraph from Pujols. Shandler probably said it best even before Pujols spoke, "This is a rare buying opportunity."
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

1. I still wouldn't take Pujols until mid 2nd-round at earliest.

2. I also won't be taking Beltran or Soriano until 2nd round either. The difference, Dan, in my opinion, is that Beltran and Soriano may not run, but they will still be able to hit just fine. Pujols may not be hitting at all at some point.

3. Crazy, I think Holliday will outperform Pujols even if Pujols does play the whole year. Both hit for high avg., Pujols may hit a few more HR, but Holliday steals bases. I also think Holliday scores more runs and gets more RBI.. although Pujols has shown he can put up big numbers int he past when he was completely healthy and his team didn't suck. I'd still take Holliday.

You're missing the point.

You're assuming already that Pujols will miss time. My belief is that he doesen't miss time and between the two, Soriano is more at risk of losing playing time.

You don't have to respond I am not trying to change minds, just stating my take on Pujols and now, Soriano. Carry on.
well, I'm not assuming so much as fearing it's highly likely he will miss time. Has Pujols made statements in the past to this degree? I don't recall, though he surely may have. The reports on his elbow sound pretty bad though and from everything I have read, he will not be at 100% or close to, and if his elbow flared up last season, why wouldn't it flare up this season as well since he did nothing to fix it? And if he says he won't play through it like he did last year, then it sure SOUNDS like he will miss some significant time this year... unless what you're saying is that he is overdoing it so much that he will just play through it even if it does bother him. I don't know. I guess you know more about how Pujols talks than I do, but I'm still scared to draft him. I'll let you do that

hahahahaha doesn't your reply imply that YOU'RE a last-word guy as well? ;)

But seriously, has he done this in the past? Do you really not think he will miss any time this year? I guess what I'm saying is, to me it seems like it's worse this year whereas you seem to think he always does this and it won't be a problem. Am I right?

Okay, enough of the petty posts about Ron. Let's get back to some facts. I'm pouring over the three satellite league results from Tuesday and having too much fun. Here's our most consistent pick after the first round:

Daisuke Matsuzaka: 92, 92, 91

More to come soon.

he will have better protection this year and more runners on in front of him..last yearhe played on a AAA team and still produced...

as far as his elbow, that sold news, been hurting since 2003....

pujols is a steal past 8......
