fantasyland I think not!

Post by bjoak » Sun Jun 08, 2008 3:19 pm

And no where did I say anyone was doing the same prep as 15 years ago, so why spin it into that? Is there anyone doing that at all?

Agree that you always have to stay ahead of the curve....You said does so-and-so still need to prove something after not winning? Since this was originally about Shandler, I assume you mean does that person need to prove they are still an expert. I'm simply answering yes. To me, being an expert 5 years ago does not equate to being an expert today so the person would have something to prove still for sure.

In my local Tout Wars league...the league commish won the first 5 years straight.

We then intorduced some new blood that knew baseball and gaming the game...and he hasn't won in the last 10 years.

I still think he's good...but he's no expert.

What is that something? Winning the latest and greatest league that comes around?

Or is it continuing to do the work you do the best you can?

I'll take the latter whether it be winning a league (Shawn/GG/Dan) OR running an info site (Ron)...

Maybe the title 'Fantasyland' refers to Ron pulling down 7-figures for the sale of Baseball HQ? Beat him at that and I'd be impressed. Please wipe that brown stuff off your mouth. :D ;)

~Lance Just a few Lance... mostly guys that tout rookies big time so they can claim they drafted them.

There are 1000x as many though that claim they can do it better, but don't even have the guts to try. Writing is a tough biz and my hats off to those that put their name out there..

[/QUOTE]OK John...I just watched the original Indiana Jones movie with the family...very good!

Now I'm in the mood to tango! :D

How the hell did these guys claim to be good fantasy baseball players in the first place...home leagues???

Allowing trading opens up the buddy system of league championships so much...I laugh at trade leagues any time after 2000.

When your lifetime track record equals less than $10,000.00 career earnings in fantasy baseball league payouts...you can stand in line for a challenge with the big boys of modern warfare.

I respect most everyone...but I don't respect them as experts unless they play against the best players at least every once in a while.

If they introduced Childs and Kenyon and Srebro and Stevieland...I'd bet one of those 4 would win 2 of the next 4 years unless bribed not to.

The first one was the best for sure... I liked the last one too. I thought he did well for an old geezer..

Not sure why you're obsessed thinking those leagues were meant for the best players. Their web sites don't say this. It's been stated over and over they were to promote the industry. Of course, anyone that wins is going to use it to promote an info site, if that's what they do. They're not stupid. I've never been a huge auction player, but Jason Grey is one of the best auction drafters I've ever seen in those leagues.

I'll also go with the angle Brian took and say they should win recently IF they are going to make claims to the public. It is kind of funny when you see "I won in 1998."

My track record.... Before you make a statement like that, I would hope that you'd spend a little more time in LV getting to know me better. You know now that I can keep up with you drinking the marg's :D

I've won plenty in my lifetime. Almost all of it has gone to the wife ;) Fantasy Sports and high stakes leagues did not start with the NFBC. I've played high stakes, 16-team, h2h pt style leagues for a long time.

I've never claimed to be an expert. I'm with Greg on this one, the whole "expert" label you guys put on people in the industry is rather silly to most of us. Your obsession with it is even more silly.

The Fab Four you mentioned are as good as you'll ever find. No doubt about that. I'd take that bet too. I've just tried to be a sponge the last two years around them and RT.

Thanks for signing Ian Snell. We all need to see your ERA go up in LV3 :D

Dude, the expert label comes *from* the people in the industry. How many mags say stuff like, "Win your league with our experts who tell you who is gonna have the funk and who is gonna skunk!"? I was just watching those dumb Yahoo videos (I wanted to see what it was I was making fun of) and they introduce the guys as their "fantasy experts" at the beginning of *every* segment. And then, right from Shandler's book: "Written by the Real EXPERTS in fantasy play."

I guess they are experts at gathering, organizing, and supplying information related to fantasy baseball.

I'll give them that.

My "Your" comment meant anyone...not you, Johnny Boy! ;)
